Back in the Soviet Union days people were not free to leave, so when Soviet citizens traveled abroad there was always a concern they would not come back (particularly the talented ones), like athletes). So the government would send "chaperones" to keep tabs on them. Steve's story about the space station and the toothpaste tubes was total nonsense. He was sarcastic when he said it but the other guy took him seriously.

This was Cary Grant's last movie. At the time he was described as the most charming man in the world, and you can still see it here. I enjoy the William Rutland character, who has a knighthood, but still indulges in childish mischief.
