This was the first thought that came to me head when I woke up this morning, so I decided to post it to the internet (like you do) and I wanted to share it with you here.

The feedback from the internet (on FB and IG) was a sea of nodding heads and some great black humor deathbed stories. Hit me. I need them.

Love from a plane, barreling towards Los Angeles.

I till love flying, especially with calming, quiet company at my side and a hand to hold.

I get my big thinking gone, my brain blurs, I go wider. I jot down some Dresden Dolls lyrics for a song that I'm trying to solve like a puzzle.

I go. I go to California.

It was looking a little dicey there for a moment, and I came close to postponing these west coast shows due to the unfolding health situation in Boston, but I made the break. I'm on a plane, and I'm about to do two Dresden Dolls show in LA (Belasco Theater, on Friday) and San Diego (Observatory Theater) on Saturday.  (There's still a handful of tickets for both of them, so come, and spread the word...and don't forget about Portland Oregon - all sold out - and NEW YEARS IN SF, not sold out at the UC Berkely Theater). 

I hope to see a lot of you soon. I may try to set up an aftershow PLAN to get a photo with all the patrons - gotta talk to the venue about that, but if you're coming, STAY TUNED for news about that. On the 2019 tour, I just asked all the patrons to stick around right at the end of the show, and I snuck back into stage with a photographer...and we snapped a picture because the venue shooed everybody out.

It's been ages since I "did real press".

As I'm sure you've noticed, The Dresden Dolls haven't done a single interview with a single newspaper, TV, radio or internet outlet since getting back to work. This is by choice. We want to wait until the record is ready. At that point, you won't be able to shut us up. But right now, we are content to just do our little under-the-radar shows for the community, post our little things to the email list and the socials, and keep it in the family.

My "New Zealand Survival Songs" record, however, is a different story.

I'm doing "real press" pretty much exclusively in New Zealand and Australia to chat about the EP, the tour, the songs...the feelings.

I had a long chat with the New Zealand Herald the other day (that article will come out when the album drops) and yesterday, I got on the line, live, for about a half an hour to talk to Radio New Zealand - their equivalent of the BBC or NPR - and they've got the recording up on their website now if you wanna give it a listen.

Almost got teary there at the end.

We covered a lotta territory, it's a nice long interview: my only regret is that we didn't delve deeper into the songwriting and recording process itself, and how deeply cathartic it was to get these songs out into the world while I was waylaid over there, and how patronage made it all possible to chuck these message-in-a-bottle songs out into the world without worrying how I'd get paid for them.

Also: how deeply cathartic it will be to bring them back to the shores of Aotearoa (and Australia, who were part of the traumatic story, too). I can't wait to get to these theaters and catch up, sing, laugh, and heal with all of you.

The EP itself is gonna drop in early January, and be digital only (along with a gorgeous vinyl 12" with two of the songs).

By the way, if you're confused, yes, RNZ got it wrong: it's Julia Deans (with an "s", not "Dean") of Fur Patrol who sings on "Little Island". Get excited: she'll hopefully be duetting on stage with me, and expect to see Aura Torkington, too. They duetted on "Whakanewha" for the recording, and will hopefully join me live.
