Hello loves.

Gonna cross-post this one.

(What is it with this month? First Robert Smith, then I get to hug this dude. Next up…? Leonard Cohen? Obama? God herself?)

This is me, with Nick Cave, last Saturday night at the Beacon Theater in New York. Photo by Brendon.

The eyes.

I’ve met Nick before, and seen him play many many times (I’ve been a huge card-carrying fan since I was 14).

But I haven’t talked to him directly for years. Since I last met him, he has lost two of his children.

On my 2019 solo tour (and I know many of you were there), I talked on stage about what was like to see him performing in the wake of his loss, what it was like to see him sing after losing a child.

How the audience held him. How he held the audience.

How we are able to hold one another. What music does.

Nick Cave is one of my biggest heroes. Not just because he’s a magnificent lyricist and musician and looks great in a suit, but because he’s the kind of artist I have always aspired to be: one who is not afraid to take people into the depths of darkness and then lead those same people out the other side - into the light - using the golden thread of song.

He is the master.

I love you, Nick Cave. Thank you for everything you have given this world.

Please share Nick love, everybody.

Favorite moments, favorite stories, favorite songs….

When people don’t know his work, I usually send them to Let Love In.

His letter/advice column “The Red Hand Files” is also extraordinary.

Man. Such a hero and mentor to me in so many ways.

Ok, off to dolls rehearsal.

Also: watch inboxes - I’m about to announce a HUGE three-part event at the Rubin Museum in NYC in November.

I’m on fire.

Hero of my hero. I have yet to even look up his music. Will have to remedy this soon... When I first heard of him, it was during the Judy Bloom song and I thought he was a Judy Bloom character! XD

I saw him in Brooklyn at Kings Theater last Friday. I hate to say that it’s the first time in over 20 years. Absolutely amazing.

Gosh, that tour. Sydney, January 2017. Amanda I saw you in a Nick Cave/PJ Harvey sandwich that weekend. You were incredible at the opera house, the night (?) after Trump’s inauguration. PJ was fire the night after. But my god, Nick. Like you I’d seen him perform a few times, and have since, but that show was something else entirely. The electricity of being in that room, knowing what had happened and feeling that grief, catharsis, healing just pouring off him. I’ll never forget it. I saw you again on that tour at the Gasometer in Melbourne. I was wearing the tshirt I’d bought at the Nick Cave show and we spoke briefly about him and that album and tour. And then we hugged.

"From now on I'll mention Nick Cave, and I'll talk about you." <3 Me too, Amanda. Although my "you" happens to be Allen Ginsberg, and Leonard Cohen, and..... :D

Into my Arms is my go to. It expresses all the intimacy I desire with someone. That I never can quite reach. I missed Nick in DC. I hope for another chance

Where do I start? The first time I saw Nick, he was in the Boys Next Door, then Birthday Party, which I went to every opportunity I had and seeing I lived in Melbourne, it was a lot. I was always at the front and have the photos to prove it. There was the one-off Cavemen gig (doing covers) and the pre-Bad Seeds gig as Man or Myth. After that, there were the biennial Bad Seeds tours, where I saw every Melbourne show. If they played three nights, I went three nights. Of course I was at the Big Day Out where Kylie wandered on stage to sing, 'Where the Wild Roses Grow'. Ginderman, Nick and Warren Ellis, Nick, Warren and the MSO, solo shows..... Vinyl, CDs, DVDs, I even have the set of the Plasticgod figures. I guess you could say I'm a fan.

Here’s my blurry Nick moment. You can tell how I feel in the photo 😂: https://www.instagram.com/p/B3dS-NRhNHV/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Ps I still have the green envious-est eyes for you over Uncle Bob. He’s my Moby Dick.

Let Love In is the perfect record. I love this picture even more every-time I see it. You are both filled with so much compassion and make such incredible music. I feel so lucky to be on the planet, making art, at the same time as you two. 🖤🖤

I basically memorized his catalogue for years, read all the books, there’s a great lecture with songs that he did “the secret life of the love song”, it’s awesome and has the best version of Sad Waters ever, finally, I saw him in Durham a few weeks ago, just incredible!
