just a quick one from the piano room. (Patreon)

i have this gorgeous rehearsal room today from 12-6pm so every moment counts but i wanted to take a quick break and hug you all with a grateful photo (and holy shit look at this beautiful 1890 grand piano i'm writing on...i've been posting little piano porn pictures on FB and instrgram today if you wanna follow along). 

its been so so long since i engaged my songwriting head and i feel overwhelmed with purpose and happiness to be sitting here trying to write on a schedule for the first time in my career. as i expected, i have no writers block. it's a faucet ... i come in here and just turn it the fuck on. if a great song comes out, hooray, if a mediocre song comes out, hooray, but the song faucet is never broken. after so many years of feeling like i was veering further and further away from songwriting what with TED talk and then book and then baby...it is so good to be back. 

it also feels different to be back with patreon. i feel more empowered, more liberated in mind, and more like i'm making art for it's own sake rather than to achieve something ... if that makes sense. it's really interesting and sometimes a little bit scary to see what comes out. i like to think i have little control, i'm just following the pattern of my thoughts with my voice and fingers, and that's the best way to write. taking dictation from the within. 

i'm also going to be trying out a few of my new tunes at the melbourne shows (the shows will be strict no video so i can flail) and also very possibly using the audience as guinea pigs for a bizzare songwriting project idea i have. if you're coming to the shows, prepare to get eno with me. i am bringing pens and papers. 

i love you all and am so grateful to have this goddam job.
