(patron-only post)

hello loves

i'm in banff, canada, for a conference called TEDsummit...mixing my little brain with the brains of scientists, archeologists, tech nerds, musicians, and trying to figure out my little place in the big universe....and the clear and icy-fresh mountain air.   it's SO GODDAM beautiful here, holy shit. i'm juggling deep brain exercises (this morning i attended a discussion about the future of ectogenesis and the ethics of creating babies outside of human beings).... and playing with a baby on the forest floor and it is, indeed, a perfect mish-mash. TED paid my way here because i'm on the braintrust, and my wonderful friend fiona from nearby vancouver is along for the ride to help take care of little anthony.

a few things to catch you up on:

STEREOGUM premieres me and jack singing "glacier" by john grant from koko in london. it's beautiful footage! go look:

......

i posted another spontaneous poem video, this time of a stupid-fun POEM I WROTE, live from the bathroom of the toronto airport. i then had to defend my right to allow my child to crawl around on a bathroom floor to the aghast. oh my god, if these people could see where this baby crawls...he's been on floors ten times dirtier than this. and he's great. beside the point: ENJOY THE POEM...

also in the slight kerfuffle department...this guy i know, ian, sent me this article on medium, about the sad disintegration of his relationship, and it angered a lot of people. read the whole kerfuffle here. i think it's a great piece, honestly. not enough men write about miscarriage and these sorts of subjects and whether or not you agree with his choices...it's a nice emo read:

also...

SUPERKATE, my wonderful assistant, managress & woman-of-all-works, is considering coming to london for the proms (around july 25-aug 1 ). i already have a place to stay in camden in somebody's tiny guest-room (i'll be with the baby) but she is looking for a PLACE TO STAY - can anyone in london put her up? as long as she has her own room or a basically private space she'll be thrilled. email: superkate@amandapalmer.net. if you can put her up, she'll crack your back, and we'll try to get you tickets to the london warm up show we're doing (venue not announced, but it's on the 26th!)

all for now

Jack & Amanda Palmer - "Glacier" (John Grant Cover) Live Video (Stereogum Premiere)

In a few weeks, Amanda Palmer is releasing an album with her father Jack, a semi-professional choral singer at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The album chronicles a sort of healing process between the two Palmers, who were separated when Amanda was less than one year old.

What a fab post with so many goodies! I loved the song with your Dad. Your piano playing was beautiful. Jack sounds like Johnny Cash! The poem was excellent and Ash is absolutely beautiful! I thought the article was interesting. It did seem to me that he went into an open relationship because he want happy in the one he had. That's not how it works, so I'm not surprised it broke. I'd be interested to hear what you think? Finally, SuperKate is welcome to stay in our lounge if she hasn't found a room yet. I'm the only one who really uses it, so I don't mind leaving it to her while she needs it? Sending lots of love, Lisa Xx

Ok, finally got a chance to patre-note you! I'm so thrilled you're in this neck of the woods. I keep asking for a Calgary show, but Banff would be close enough. Consider a little return for a show. There's so many fans here! Enjoy it out there. I had heard that Banff was considered a sacred space for vision quests and journeying so I hope the mountains and the trees whisper sweet inspiration into your dreams! Much love! A

omg! Banff is on the top of favorite places that I've been. I went with my family (my dad had to attend a school for work there!?!!) when I was 7 and then again at 9. I swore then that I would go there for my honeymoon. My husband also loves it up there - his favorite place is the Opabin Plateau. I've always wanted to go back. And 9 years in we still haven't done our honeymoon to NZ... I keep saying we should go to Banff together. :)

I sadly can't help with London, but if you ever need a place in Edinburgh or Vancouver BC, look no further!!

I so needed this today. What a beautiful song and rendition. Love x

The TEDsummit sounds exciting! Remember, the best ideas come from diverse experience and thinking, so you truly are adding value in case you were doubting yourself. Banff is on my list of places I'd like to visit. In the meantime I'll just have to enjoy our little slice of paradise at the Lakehouse on the other side of Canada (New Brunswick).

I'd love to see the poem, but I don't do Facebook..... Little Ash is having such a wonderful start to his life with all of the experiences you are giving him. I certainly wouldn't be worrying about him crawling around on a bathroom floor!! No rooms in London, but South Island, New Zealand we could help with ;-)

Loved the poem and seeing the Stereogum performance...they are reminders of beauty in a summer of uncertainity.
