meet amanda the betta fish (Patreon)

hello dears
I am writing from a gay bar in Brooklyn at 11:30 am in the morning having just fed a baby on the back bar deck before the sitter (barbara) who is a friend of the daughter of my midwife trades places with the production manager (lola rocknrolla) of this shoot who is going to take ash for a brooklyn walk while lola does my hair because she volunteered because on low-budget shoots that's the way we roll. there is also a 6'6" inch drag queen doing make-up in the bar mirror because there's no fuckin light in the bathroom. got that? good.
I'm shooting a secret video with a secret collaborator.
why are some things secret and some things not? I actually have no idea.
dudes. here's the thing - if you think I have this all meticulously planned out, I DONT.
like the fish that is also starring in this secret video (he's a betta fish, named amanda, and I didn't name him, just saying) swimming a giant cocktail glass, I can see out....but I can't see in. I don't even know what that means. I'm running on fumes here. but then again that is the way I like it.
I've felt this way since having the baby and "going back to work", whatever that actually means.
walk, baby on hip, with head up and don't make solid plans and don't look back and for gods sake don't look down or I might notice there is no floor down there.
the Patreon is making it feel safer. if I have a floor, a safety net of sorts, at least as far as my art and creative life and head is concerned...it's this. it's here and it's you and I am trying very hard not to walk so eyes-clenched that I take this for granted.
now
I have five things to tell you, from my phone, from the perch on my bar stool with a babysitter combing out my hair.
one
this secret video is for a song I made two years ago that I never told anybody about and I've been holding onto for a good moment. I should be ready to share it within two months.
two
I'm getting ready to prepare the dad record and dad tour for announcement and I whipped up an amazing-why-not video collaboration to Thing with it, and I'm going to pre-release the song that goes with it. that is happening before the end of the month.
three
