hallo aotearoa!

**UPDATES BELOW ON THE HAWKES BAY PATRON PARTY**, SCROLL DOWN!

just an UPDATE on this post from a week ago....! first of all, a couple gorgeous photos from THE SHOWS in WELLINGTON....by alex hallag:

(from the kids show!!! which was amazing...and silly....and perfect!!!)

and here’s julie ann genter from the green party, throwin down some wisdom

the shows were just electric.

we all knew how lucky we were to be in the room with each other.

moreover....the wello patron-only gathering, which happened in a gorgeous space donated by Optimal Workshop, was SO GOOD. so so so good!!!!!! it was more than i imagined it would be. people brought food, drinks, kids, and we sat around and really talked. i learned a lot about wellington, the mood, the lockdown stories...the, ahem, feelings about auckland....

here is everybody! photo by jamie macphail

thank you so deeply to everyone who came, shared, hugged and talked. and a huge thanks to optimal workshop for donating the space.

here's some more photos by alex hallag from the wellington patron party:

group hug....

.........

AND NOW....

MORE NEWS ABOUT THE PATRON PARTIES....

**orignal post, with added info...WE WILL KEEP UPDATING THIS DOCUMENT OR SENDING MORE INFO AS THERE ARE CHANGES AND THINGS TO KNOW!!!!! for now:

PATRON-ONLY PARTY INFO....

FINALLY! PATRONS GET TO MEET PATRONS, AND I GET TO MEET ALL OF YOU!

i am not taking our ability here in aotearoa to gathering large numbers for granted, not for one second. i talk with my friends in the states every day and i know how precious this is. i hope you know, too.

these patron-only parties these are like my old ninja gigs of yore, but slightly less last-minute....and just for patrons to keep the numbers stay under control.

each party will last several hours and be super casual. ALL AGES are welcome, and BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING! bring food and drinks to share with patrons! bring something for show and tell! i'll be playing ukulele, hanging out, happy to sign anything, we will bring a little box o merch if we can....NO STRUCTURE, just the way i like it :)

they are free (except in dunedin, we will need to pass the hat for the ferry and venue...and in auckland you'll need to pay for the ferry, and please donate to the eco village if you can afford it!).

it's fine to bring a single friend or +1, but please encourage them to join the patreon to kick in if they can. and please don't post about the times or addresses on social media. you are totally welcome to post FROM the event once it's going, or after it's over.

PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU'RE COMING AND TELL ME WHICH CITY SO I CAN GET A LITTLE BIT IF A HEADCOUNT!!! or maybe....i'll do a poll?? yeah. smarter. but tell me here too!

4. AUCKLAND - WAIHEKE ISLAND, at the Awaawaroa Bay Eco Village Community House!

this one is my favorite favorite of all...ANOTHER ISLAND!!!!....but not just any island. it's waiheke, which is one of the most beautiful and magical little places i've been since being here. don't ask how (well, i'll tell you at the gig), but i made a wonderful friend on waiheke named TANYA, who lives in a magical place called the Awaawaroa Bay Eco Village on Waiheke. read about the history of the eco village here...it's an astounding story. it was created in the 90s by a handful of peaceful people, and i am beyonbd honored that, after having a community meeting about it, they've decided to HOST US!!!

that means....we are guests, and this land and space is very, very special. PLEASE....be extra mindful, please read all the directions very carefully, and please know that you're representing me and the whole community. y'know...follow the golden rule: don't be a dick. don't touch, take, photograph or do anything without using your head, asking, and being aware that we are on someone else's hard-won space!

and a beautiful place it is.

i took these photos during our last visit, in july.

i can't imagine how lush it'll be now that it's SUMMER......

we are going to be welcomed into the community hall....here's all the info you need about the event! which is FREE, but details below about donating to the eco village.

NOTE: THIS EVENT is SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd, which is TWO DAYS after the gig on friday the 20th @ st. matthews.

TO GET TO WAIHEKE ISLAND...

THE FERRY (which is a commercial ferry) departs HALF MOON BAY (36 Ara Tai Drive, East Auckland) at 6, 8, 9 & 10 AM, and NOON! i wouldn't leave later than that.

BOOK A FERRY TICKET HERE and get more ferry info, and i recommend booking ASAP to grab your preferred time! ahem..... this is definitely a time to be nice to your friends or family on waiheke island if you have any. come early! come saturday and CRASH! or grab an air bnb on waiheke and make a weekend of it.

MORE INFO:

THE PATRON PARTY ITSELF will start at 1 pm, SUNDAY NOVEMBER 22nd...and we'll go until about 4pm. please don't arrive at the community hall any later than 2pm.

note: **There is no public transport to the Eco Village**

sorry so late but HERE IS A LINK TO ORGANIZE RIDESHARES ON THE FORUM:

https://forum.theshadowbox.net/t/rideshares-etc-to-waiheke-island-patron-party-nov-22/6225

Roads on Waiheke are narrow and windy. Please drive slowly and car pool whereever possible!!

ash will tell you about his favorite feature of the eco village: THE GUILLOTINE! SHOW DOWN! OR YOU'LL GET THE CHOP!:

For those not driving - maybe lifts could be shared from the Onetangi Hall (which you can catch a bus to from the passenger ferry).

You can get a taxi, but they are pricey:

https://www.waihekefive.co.nz/

https://www.waihekeshuttles.co.nz/

TO GET TO THE ECO VILLAGE VENUE & PARKING INFO....from tanya:

To reach the Awaawaroa Bay Eco Village Community House you need to follow signs to Onetangi and then from there, follow the signs to Orapiu (if you get to Orapiu you have gone way too far).

Here is a link to a google map:

https://goo.gl/maps/ms9qDS84cHGm28S47

If you are driving from the car ferry follow signs to Onetangi. You'll travel through a fairly suburban setting but once you have headed up a big long winding hill from Onetangi - then you'll be in an open rolling rural setting.

Come down another steep hill and turn right at Awaawaroa Rd (Little Library on the corner), look for signs to Poderi Crissi (an Italian vineyard and restaurant) which is on the same road but past our turn off.

If you arrive there - you again have gone too far.

Travel carefully down this road as it's narrow and winding (tho now partially sealed) until you come to a little road side stall on your left - called 'The Little Shop By the Awa'.

Just after this on your right are our wooden letter boxes, 182 Awaawaroa Rd.

You will then need to turn right and cross a ford (usually dry)

You'll travel another 1.5km (3 - 4 minute drive) approx until the road forks steeply on the left up yet another hill.

On your right before you go up the hill (as in don't go up the hill) is the community house - tricky to see as it's behind all kinds of foliage.

There is some parking to your left by the community house, and other parking back by the pond that you would have passed on your way in.

Hopefully there will be someone to help with parking. Be sure to park so other people can pass.

THERE IS VERY POOR CELL PHONE RECEPTION OUT HERE SO DON'T RELY ON GOOGLE MAPS FOR DIRECTIONS.

As we are a bird sanctuary and have a no cats/dogs policy. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANIMALS WITH YOU.

.......

WE WILL BE ACCEPTING DONATIONS towards the eco village. if you can bring some koha, they'd appreciate it deeply. they're giving us their space for FREE.

.......

so.....HOW EXCITED ARE WE AOTEAROA?????????

and here, once more, is the info for the actual shows. wellington and auckland are selling well, both almost sold out (except for the wello matinee, which has plety o tickets). dunedin and hawkes bay both need a boost - the venues are HUGE!!! spread the word.

Nov 6 - Dunedin - Regent Theatre (sales need help! please spread the word!)

Nov 14 - Hastings - Toi Toi Opera House (selling very well!)

Nov 20 - Auckland - St. Matthew-In-The-City (wheeee...almost sold out!)

I’ll come to wiaheke too very excited. Would everybody love it if I asked my mate who owns a taxi to do a bulk transport deal from the ferry terminal ?

Obsidian Jaguar

He got back to me saying the following : 0800 5050510 is the best company to use. A taxi out there for 4 people is about 65/70. Have fun

Obsidian Jaguar

So that’s a bit out of my price range unless sharing with quite a few people. Otherwise I’m keen for ridsahee with others too :)

I hope to be at the Havelock North gathering today. Thanks so much for your brilliant entertaining concert last night. It was a treat to be in the audience. Loved every moment. XO

Anonymous

Hopefully coming to Waiheke with a friend. X

Anonymous

Waiheke... love to, but nope. Expensive ferry, and this introvert ain't asking for a ride. I have a kid. Would love to come but it's a logistical storm cloud, all dark and scary and uncertain. I shall remain excluded.

Anonymous

I’m taking the car to Waiheke. I have 3 seats going if anyone needs a ride.

Anonymous

Are you still looking for someone to share a taxi? Looking for my mum and me.

Anonymous

My mum and I are very keen, do you have 2 seats available?

Anonymous

I do. I’m on the 11am ferry from the city and then the 5:30 back to half moon bay (but I can drop you back in the city).

Anonymous

I'm on the 12pm Fullers ferry going into Matiatia bay, then a taxi from there. If anyone wants to join me, feel free :-) Let me know so I can order a bigger car if we need to.

Anonymous

Hi I am on 12 o'clock ferry from Half Moon Bay, taking car over, have a spare seat either from Auckland or can pickup Waiheke - let me know if anyone keen for a lift?

Anonymous

Hi Kirsten do you still have one more seat free (after Ashleigh)... there is a bit of a carpool juggle going on in my thread, I have two people I could take if you could take someone else who needs pickup Waiheke? Thanks....

Anonymous

We will get on the 11am ferry from the city and take the ferry back at 5.30 too (but will go straight back to auckland central and save you the petrol if you are happy with that. Ill give you my phone number to txt if that helps? I dont think we can pm on patreon O27-715-2O72 txt only though please)

Anonymous

I hope you dont mind, I sent you a pm on facebook, it should be in your message requests, I hope you dont mind

Anonymous

Patreon won’t let me reply to your comment above, but yes I can take Rosie no worries - and have spare seats from the Waiheke ferry terminal if you know of any others that need them.

Anonymous

Hello everyone, I'm really keen to come tomorrow but the taxi fare for one is proving tricky. Happy to contribute in a shared situation. If anyone has a spare ride please let me know. I can work to your timeframe and go to either half moon bay or Auckland. I haven't booked a ferry ride yet. Liz 021022 44684
