(patron only)

hello loves,

HERE WE GO. the week of insanity begins.

tomorrow i am dropping "voicemail for jill". please be ready. it's....a thing.

i changed the artwork...a little. not the image, but the tone. don't be angry with me. it's a process, this art thing.

.......

and right now i'm gonna let loose the flurry of info about listening parties, which is gonna be FUN. well, you know, my kind of fun. crying-together fun.

here's my morning voice-ramble....i'm going to be honest here....this is getting more and more weird every morning. in this one, i talk about drinking, and fear, and discipline...getting ready for tour.....it'll all getting mighty real mighty fast.

i gotta say, this is the most therapeutic thing i've discovered in years. between these morning rambles and my morning ice bath.... i'm on fire. yet cold.

alex has been transcribing these audio recordings for those of you who want to READ them. here's our system:
if you want to catch up on past Voice Rambles you can view all posts with the patreon tag "voice rambles" here:
https://www.patreon.com/amandapalmer/posts?tag=voice%20rambles

for past posts, we've added the transcription to them. if you wanna read the transcriptions in one spot, book mark this link, it's a google document we're updating in real time so every time a new Voice Ramble is posted, alex is adding the transcript to it, usually within an hour or so of the post going up. you'll see a table of contents on the first page of the doc - it's hyperlinked to take you to the section of the doc for that particular patreon voice ramble:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/19qKxjXn5tHSDBecgvuy_4a7BnvhA2iG0M_vRpWcPZy0/edit?usp=sharing

i mention this in the ramble...

TODAY I AM ROCKY BALBOA.

not just any rocky balboa: i am rocky balboa in rocky IV during the training montage.

i am not actually at the top of the mountain yet.

the top of the mountain will be, like, the beacon theater show in new york.

right now i am HERE:

ok and now

you must watch it, because obviously you don't have better things to do with your day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oDTNEEu3Rw

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i was up at 5:30am, took a fuckin 5 minute ice bath, dealt with my sick child, cleaned up some poop and wiped some eye boogers out of ash's eyes because i think he has conjunctivitis, made some kale eggs, built a fire and brewed a coffee blacker than death.

then rolled up my sleeves to write text to announce these goddamn listening parties. fiddled with the image for "voicemail for jill" which is going to drop like a cosmic bomb tomorrow, and now i have like 9 interviews with the UK and europe. outside, the snow falls, and i gather and dust off some pine cones for kindling to keep the fire lit.

eye of the tiger.

okay now

HOLD THAT SONG IN YOUR MIND OF FULL BLAST.

on the other side of the montage, some angry pop diva in malibu is getting ready for her tour by shopping on rodeo drive with an entourage of assistants, and she is working out in a glass gym on a very fancy treadmill with a personal trainer in great yoga pants. and she is getting some last-minute botox.

cut back to me.

i am arranging elsa and anna dolls on a shelf. i am making a banana and peanut-butter sandwich for a toddler. i am meditating next to a blazing fire while the snow falls, then drinking my death-homemade black coffee.

cut back to her.

she is standing in line at a starbucks, screaming at a barista that her latte does not have enough salted caramel syrup.

cut back to me.

i am at the top of a mountain, naked, with a sword.

please bear in mind before you judge that i am all parties represented in this movite, at different times.

ok?

none of this makes sense if you haven’t seen rocky IV. the final showdown between me and this pop diva comes, by the way....never. music doesn't work that way, and i'll never be at the grammys.

BUT IN MY HEAD THIS IS REAL.

it’s just happening and i’m getting ready for tour like a BOSS.

......

tour news:

tomorrow, the european/uk VENUES of my There Will Be No Intermission tour are announced (the cities and dates are here, for patrons only) .....and the patreon presale will start.

stay tuned, i'll post all that info tomorrow. but today, i'm sharing the details on something equally EXCITING....wheeeeeeee....

THE LISTENING PARTIES!

you hear that? what is that sound! that is the sound of patrons listening to music together and blowing their noses into hankies across the globe!!!!

a few months ago i started thinking about HOW and WHEN we/you could all listen to the record together. so i’m doing two things. first, i'm working with a platform so YOU can host YOUR OWN listening parties. second, i'm hosting 3 of my own.

you're gonna do this with me. ok? ok. yes you are.

ANY PATRON on EARTH can host a listening party: in your house, in your living room, in your basement, in your gallery, in your library, wherever you can fit PEOPLE and A DECENT SET OF SPEAKERS. there is no money involved, unless you wanna charge a door fee or pass the hat to cover the cost of stuff. it's all you.

this isn't like TEDx where the first one to grab the city-sceptre wins.....

areas/cities can have multiple parties.

it's gonna be anarchy.

i personally recommend doing these parties in spaces that are AS QUIET AND COMFY as possible. this isn't a dance record, and it isn't really an outside record. this is a lie-down or sit-down and listen record.

i recommend low lights, candles, and wine.

think: shag carpets and lava lamps.

think: sleeping bags and futons and soft pillows.

think: group therapy.

the album itself is 78 minutes long. so get cosy.

i am going to "paste" a little spoken-for-patrons introduction onto the record clip JUST FOR THIS event...so the hosts of the parties should add an extra TEN minutes to allow for my introduction ramble :) (i just recorded it. it's good).

all of these listening parties are to be hosted by patrons only - i'm not posting this stuff on social media.

but YOU can create and abide by your own rules...you can welcome anybody in that you would like. since you'll be hosting your own parties and it's a free country (wait is it?), you are welcome to set your own patron/public rules for your own spaces - you can invite patrons only, patrons and a guest of their choice, or your friends....however you want to do it. it's your house, or boat (BOAT? hmmm), or whatever.

BUT FER SURE....only patrons can attend the three that i, ye olde AFP, am throwing (more info below).

and this is, to me, not just a LISTENING RECORD.

it’s a LISTEN-TOGETHER and CRY-TOGETHER record.....because...well, it is.

without further ado, here's the info.

HOST/ATTEND YOUR OWN LISTENING PARTY ON MARCH 7th

i’ve teamed up with a platform called ARTERY, and on march 7th, the day before the album officially drops, ANYONE IN THE WORLD can host their own listening party: we will give you some inspiration and suggestions (have an art gallery? a beautiful house? a library that you can sneak into after-hours?....that’s perfect) and the host of the party will be sent a link to hear the record, plus a message from me, to play at the party.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS......

we've created our very own community page on Artery, here it is:
http://artery.is/afp

when you go to the community page (here's the link again: http://artery.is/afp ) in the top left corner you can watch a little intro video i made to tell you how this works. go ahead and watch it now, i'll wait.

below, further down on the page you'll see the parties you've created and you can click on them to RSVP. right now, we're launching with the official LONDON listening party, hosted by team afp's alex.

when you create your own party, it'll appear with the others in this list.

i am only sharing this link here with patrons, but be aware that Artery is a public website, and while our community page isn't posted anywhere but here on the internet, anyone with the URL can visit the webpage. if you want to host your own party, you can create a 'public' showcase which will appear on this community page for all patrons to browse and RSVP to, or you can create a 'private' showcase which won't be on this community page but you'll have to send the direct link to invite people to it - this is what you'll do if you want to guarantee that ONLY patrons attend (you can share the link below along with the city you're in right here in the comments of this patron-only patreon post).

you can share the general location of where your event is on tour Artery event, but your address won't appear on the webpage at all, you can send that to your event attendees before the day of the party along with any instructions you have for their arrival (like your phone number to call, which buzzer to ring, what entrance to go to, directions etc.).

if you want to attend a listening party, you can filter the existing events by city to find one closes to you. if you don't see on near you, check back later, or better yet: CREATE ONE. if you see multiple events in your city, flip a coin!

when you create your own listening party, as the host, you get to decide if your event will be free, pay-what-you-want or set an admission price. you can also decide if you'll provide food/snacks and if you want your party to be a BYOB event.

WHAT ELSE.....?

i recommend that all events be FREE or LOW COST. if you wanna, charge a little admission price to ensure that people who RSVP actually show up (especially if you have very limited space), and you can use the money raised to buy snacks OR you can donate it all to a great local charity (let me know, i'll be proud).

it's up to you, but we trust y'all to do what's best for you and your event.

as a host, you can also add additional acts to keep the party happpenin' after you listen to the album - you can open mic it, do spoken work, get a bagpipe....or just telkl tell stories in a circle....you can do fuckin yoga for all i care. i'd love that actually. just make it and own it.

what else,,,,,

you can also set a MINIMUM guest requirement, which means your listening party will only happen if you have AT LEAST "x" number of attendees (you get to decide what that number is). sometimes it makes sense to this, sometimes it doesn't. if you're unsure or have questions, ask away below in the comments.

THE ONE REQUIREMENT I ASK OF YOU, IF YOU'RE HOSTING YOUR OWN PARTY:.... is that you have a REAL speaker set-up to listen to the album on. please don't use laptop speakers, unless you are on a space station or in the artic and desperate. the audio should be clear and full and fill the room/space you're in - this is a listening party, you wanna make sure your guests can actually hear the album. i worked my ass off on making it sound beautiful, and you just won't hear that beautiful through laptop or tiny bluetooth speakers.

ok? ok.

MORE NOTES!

ORGANIZE!!!!!!

please don't rush to create a listening party simply because you want to be first. there can be more than one in one city, so it's best that you take your time and make sure you have everything ready and organized. use the comments here to ask questions or find fellow patrons who can help you host, or use the official AFP Patreon-land facebook group to organize with one another, not a bad idea at all.

NEED HELP USING ARTERY?

the team at ARTERY are standing by to help you if you need it. so, if you have ANY questions or need HELP creating your listening party or setting up your account on ARTERY, you can get in touch with their support team by emailing them: support@artery.is

or by clicking the little green "Support?" button on the bottom right corner of the webpage. it looks like this:

and it opens up this help window where you can search their help articles or send them a message by clicking the "contact us" button:

okay, those are YOUR LISTENING PARTIES. now on to mine...

----

MY LISTENING PARTIES - FOR PATRONS ONLY! IN NYC, UPSTATE, AND BOSTON!

i’m going to host THREE parties of my very own on march 5th, 6th and 9th. entry for all parties will be a mere $10  - i’d make them free, but i want to make sure people actually use their precious tickets.

space for these parties is EXTREMELY LIMITED and tickets will be available to to you - patrons only - and will go on sale on february 20th, at around 2pm EST new york time. i'll share the links HERE for you to get tickets. as i just said, tickets are EXTREMELY limited, these spaces are SMALL, so you have to be a patron to attend, if you know people that want to go who aren't patrons, they have about a day or two now to join the patreon to access these parties.

for ALL of these events: you can bring a sleeping bag/quilt/yoga mat to lie on the floor. i’ll have some surprises, do some talking about the record, and basically it’ll be incredible.

all these events will have a few times listed below, here's what this all means:

door time - this is when the doors to the space open, and you can enter the space to find a comfy spot.

lock out time - this is when doors CLOSE. this means you should arrive on time, shortly after doors open, but NOT AFTER the lock out time. once the doors close, we'll start the record.

end time - each space has a curfew for when the event is over and we will all leave.

tuesday, MARCH 5th - NEW YORK CITY

…..we will be listening in a secret little room of THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY (eeeee!!!!!!) at 5:30pm (doors lock at 6:30pm, event is over at 8:30pm).

wednesday, MARCH 6th - CATSKILL, NY

…..we will be listening at A SLEEPOVER in the Catskill Mill (a large, open, loft space) in Catskill, New York. doors are at 8pm, 9pm lock-out, lights out at midnight after we listen. you can bring futons, pillows, bedding, food, drinks, anything. (no dogs, though.)

we will be listening to the album on some of the finest hand-made speakers in the world:

my pal rob kalin, who founded etsy, has been obsessed with figuring out how to create The World’s Best-sounding Speakers using local hardwoods and cutting-edge speaker technology. trust me when i tell you that listening to these speakers is like listening to….god. and we get to use them!!!! AND HAVE A SLEEPOVER!!! c’mon how awesome. we’ll go have coffee in the morning and then get back to our normal lives - everybody out by 10am. (you’re also free to come to the listening bit then scram, you don’t HAVE to sleep over).

saturday, MARCH 9th - Boston, MA

….we will be listening at MY APARTMENT IN BOSTON….i’m going to have a handful of people up to the top floor of the cloud club and we’re gonna do it in ol’ commune art-style. doors are at 7pm and lock-out is at 8pm...everyone out by 10:30pm. this one is the teeniest...we only have about 15 spaces. a huge thanks to mike at audiolab, he's going to loan us a killer speaker system for this.

phew.

more coming, so much more...

a heads up for you new yorker/new englanders....
i'm also going to do two public events during release week, one in brooklyn (march 10th) and one in boston (march 9th). the new york one is ready to share, hot off the presses, but boston is still being finalized, i should have that info HOPEFULLY tomorrow

meanwhile, brooklyn....

BROOKLYN - MARCH 10th - IN STORE reading, signing Q&A and short performance at ROUGH TRADE NYC:

https://roughtrade.com/us/events/rough-trade-nyc-amanda-palmer

this is a PUBLIC event, meaning anyone who gets a ticket from rough trade can go - patron or not. the way this works - if you buy the album at rough trade it'll come with a wristband that gets you in to the in store performance and signing. there are THREE types of formats to get the album - the black standard double gatefold vinyl LP, the standard CD and and the LP+ which is a special INDIE STORE EDITION of the record, it's the same as the standard double gatefold vinyl LP BUT THE VINYL IS COLORED, it's aubergine. this is exclusive to independent record stores, only 750 were made. just note, that this is NOT the same thing as the midnight blue patron-only vinyl that was available for pre-order (those are BLUE and come with a special signed poster insert).

I let the voicerambles pile up over the last week and decided to wait to comment on them until I got caught up (which I just did, while darning socks and a sweater in the last of today's daylight ^^.) I'm enjoying them and they're making me want to pay more daily attention to my inbox because I feel like they lose some of their context when I binge them. I'm also glad to hear you're enjoying making them, and that you're putting more effort into taking care of yourself even if it's unfun sometimes.

Can I get an idea of the actual time GMT or even Australian Eastern Standard Daylight Savings Time (Sydney) of the pre-release to patrons for listening parties? I am confusing myself as to when to actually schedule the party, March 7th for The US is March 8th for us.....

Anonymous

Anyone else in Chicago?

I will have to check back as we get closer to see if anything is happening in Louisiana. I know I'm making a movie that week, and driving a friend from New Orleans airport to her Gulf Wars thing that she does with SCA. But our time is different from your time, so maybe?

Anonymous

Who’s in/near Seattle and interested in meeting up downtown/city center?? xx

Anonymous

And do the listening parties have to start at the same time? Could we do a delayed start somehow (by like 2 or 3 hrs)?

Anybody from Moscow? Text me, I'm thinking of hosting one if we'll have enough people

I wish someone would do a party in Denver area. I'd love to join even if it's two of us, I'm new here and know no other fan. I rent and I don't think my landlord would be too thrilled with me bringing soul-friends-i-don't-know into our house though :(
