HI

i have about five hours to figure this out - the "voicemail for jill" Thing/digital single ("digital thingle"?) is dropping mid-month next month and the digital service providers (El Grando iTunes, etc) need the cover ASAP.

i can't decide.

they're both so good.

bear in mind that this is a stark buy joyful song about abortion & sisterhood.

the "green jacket/cape cod" photo is by kahn & selesnick and that's regina harris, our make-up & hair artist...and the "desolate and mountaintop/ iceland" one is by stephanie zakas, and that is, you guess it, our iceland maek-up artist, bertnmarí bergmannsórttir...both photos are also in the art book, rejoice)

Sorry missed 5hr window but hit me maybe still mulling, so... Both beautiful/engaging but the Green Jacket (1) gets us closer up to you both for strongest connection and (2) seems so uniquely simultaneously powerful & precarious. Your one collective synched sisterly gait comprised of her blind uncertain vulnerable outstretched precarious step and your courageous triumphant unflinchingly forward/formidable step. Your one collective gait journeying forward with joy despite pain/fear, propelling/uplifting you both (and all of us in different ways). Thanks for showing/sharing both covers - whichever you choose will be the perfect journey for us with your song/experience because you chose it in the moment. Much congratulations

Green jacket, I see more joy, sisterhood, yet yet confusion.

The moment when you realize that just because you can't go wrong with either choice doesn't mean that making the choice is any easier! In fact, sometimes it's harder. These are both amazing photographs. I'm in the minority, I guess, because I picked the Iceland shot. There's something powerfully beautiful about the foreground/background there and the simple helping gesture of handing someone a coat. It's as if amidst this immense power that seems somewhat dark and potentially overwhelming (though also beautiful), the simple act of helping someone can still stand out.

I like the green jacket one because, having not heard the song, if it's abut joy and sisterhood and abortion it seems more rebellious to use a bright, welcome cover for an abortion song. Not the bleaker one, it seems like the opposite idea.

Purely in visual terms, I find the second one has a far more interesting shape. But, to be honest… I am not a fan of the text layouts in this album. I find the font kinda ugly. I might photoshop all gthe text out of the album cover when I sit down to tag the songs. I think, if it wasn't for the text, I'd prefer the first one for a simple reason: I can see what's happening, and it's suggestive. The woman who's got your hand seems (body language, hair, her hand grabbing yours) to be blind, whereas you, with your arm over your head, seem to see just enough that you can guide her. It's a beautiful scene. In the second picture, I can see that some people are there, but I have no idea whatsoever what is going on or what emotion it's supposed to convey. All I like about it is the nice colors/shapes and the fact that it's got a ying-yang thing going on. But yeah, I kinda hope we get the text-less photos at some point. Not a fan of the font or overall design, it feels clumsy and it overrides the pictures' beauty. I would have rather, dunno, given them a white frame and written the title underneath like some 19th century newspaper cartoon.

I like the sunny one because you have been on a dark/cold tone kick for a minute

I love both - I choose the Green more initimate- the 2nd is just hauntingly beautiful

As the quintessential artist, I am late for voting, but I did anyway... Both are STUNNING, aren't they??

Katt

Beautiful photos both but please if you go with the Green Jacket shot crop a bit off the bottom and lift the text away from your upraised fist. The intersection is messy and makes my little designer brain fritz.

Hey Amanda! I got to meet you in Calgary once but don't really remember it because I was so nervous about meeting you that I (stupidly) mixed emergency anti anxiety meds and alcohol. After your spot on CWPWHM I started writing an essay about it, because I am trying to start writing again and your conversation inspired me. So I think this is to say 'hi' and thanks for helping to kick my ass into gear.
