I didn't really want you all to wait a week before learning what happened afterwards, so here is already the next one. :P

(But man these clothing look outdated now)

----------------------------------------------------------

Susan could already hear the sissling of the upcoming dinner as she walked down the stairs, carrying a set of milk-filled bottles. Even though she was alone in her house with Nathan, she still preferred to milk herself in a room with more solitude.

She took a turn to the right once her feet hit the wooden flooring, right into the kitchen. Nathan was busy mixing the many ingredients in the pan, so she could sneakily dump the bottles inside the fridge without him noticing. Afterwards, she pulled herself up onto the remaining clean counters, the other two filled with residues of food and cooking utensils. She looked over to his side to see what was going on.

“H-hey… I’m sorry to make you do this right as you arrived.”

He looked up to her and smiled. “It’s no problem! This way I can try out some different dishes without having to worry about the twins not liking it.”

“Hehe… it does smell really good, that must be a good sign.” Susan nabbed a leftover piece of cucumber and started to munch on it.

“So...” Nathan started, continuing to stir. “How did your parents react to the news?”

“Well… Mom already knew but they were surprisingly relaxed about it. I guess because it wasn’t really my fault… In any case, they said to take it easy for the next few months and just wait until the next semester.”

“Huh. I wish I had your parents, to be honest. Mine would’ve probably pushed me into getting some kind of temporary job.”

Susan chuckled nervously. “Yeah… even though they didn’t say anything, I really feel like I should be doing something. It’s just… it’s all so sudden…”

“Yeah… It’s messed up how it ended up. But like your parents said, take it easy. Maybe you’ll find somewhere to work temporarily, or you could program something.”

“Ehh...” She looked away, staring at the tiled floor. Nathan kept his silence, continuing to cook. This continued for several minutes, where none of them said a single word. Nathan grabbing the plates in advance while Susan kept sitting on the counter.

"I'll miss you."

“Hrm? What was that?”

“I’ll miss you...”

“H-huh? Miss me? What do you mean?”

“You know… the internship will pretty much be a full-time job for you, imagine all that but also taking care of the twins constantly… You’ll be occupied constantly.”

“I’ll still spend time with you. I’ll find the time… probably in the weekends, how does that sound?”

She only shrugged, until silence fell on them again. Ever since the news yesterday the mood hasn’t been the best, silences like these were common between them now. However Nathan had an idea to brighten the mood a bit.

“Ah shoot. I forgot to buy some milk.” Nathan said nonchalantly, before chuckling and giving a stare at Susan.

“W-what?” She initially was confused by his expression, until the puzzle pieces fell into place. “Are y-you serious?! No way I’m going to have them above a hot pan! I’ll-... It’ll be such a mess!”

“Truee... But what about the bottles in the fridge?”

“That’s for the hospital!”

“So then you’ll just fill one more up later tonight? I mean, all that snacking you’re doing riiiight now should help with that.”

Instead of another embarrassed reply from Susan, she went completely silent.

“S-sorry. I thought a little bit of teasing would cheer you up.” Nathan looked back down at the pan. “We uhm… we actually don’t need milk.”

“Jeez, I actually believed you... For that joke you’re not getting milk any from me tonight. Hmph...”

Nathan chuckled, just glad with the fact that she didn’t shut herself off again. Though he just realized was actually looking forward to drinking straight from the tap. Well, I guess that was a worthy sacrifice.
