We're finally here... Never had a true end goal for her aside from a pregnancy, but now that it has happened in its entirety... This would certainly be one heck of a fitting end. :>

I have written down some more thoughts in this post regarding Susan and what will be coming next in the future. But for now, buckle up because the story below is probably the most heartwarming one of them all.

March 31, 2018 - (The day after #115)

The contractions started in the middle of the night, waking Susan as pain shot through her lower body. Susan groaned clutching her lower abdomen as she curled tight against her body. This woke up Nathan who fumbled for his glasses in the dark and turned on the small lamp on the table by the bed. He crawled over to her side of the bed, pulling the cover from over her face.

“Susan-Susan, are you okay?” Susan just groaned in response.

Nathan got out of bed and walked to the other side where he could rub her back, bringing out his phone and firing off a few messages as he did so.

Susan’s mother arrived a lot quicker than Nathan expected. Almost startling Nathan when he was walking out of the kitchen with a glass of water. They walked together to the bedroom where a very sweaty Susan sat upright surrounded by a fort of pillows. She was rubbing her lower belly lightly, her eyes widening upon seeing her mom.

“Nathan! You didn’t need to call my mom, it was just some cramps.” Her face flushing red.

Annika dug in her bag and started to inspect Susan. Susan’s eyes were dilated, she was short of breath and was still lightly sweating. All things that Annika was happy to point out weren’t ‘fine’. She gently but firmly pushed Susan forward so she could press the muscles along Susan’s back. When she got to the lower muscles Susan groaned out in pain.

“Well you’re definitely in labor.” She said. “But these are just the preliminary contractions. It’ll be a couple hours before you’re ready.”

She put her instruments back into her bag. “Try to get some sleep. I’ll help Nathan prepare your things.”

Susan tried to get some rest but right as she’d feel herself slipping away the contractions would start again, jolting her awake with a spike of pain. As time went on they started to come more and more often. Ensuring that there was effectively no chance of her getting back to bed. When she started consistently having contractions every 5 minutes her mother said it was time and they helped Susan get dressed and into the car.

When they arrived at the hospital Susan was surprised to find her father knocking on the window.

“Hello there sunshine!” He said opening the door and taking her hand.

Susan’s eyes lit up. “Dad!”

“I thought I would come over here directly to help set up. I got a wheelchair for you.” He helped her out of the car and Susan blushed as she sat in the padded chair.

“I.. I can walk dad.” Susan pouted.

He kissed her on the head. “I’m sure you could, buuut let’s not risk it, alright?”

Susan didn’t object, and allowed herself to be carried into the wheelchair. With Nathan and her mother at her side, they entered the hospital and were promptly guided to the room she would be staying in, 101A-B.

From there, the nurses efficiently reduced her back to her birthday suit. Giving her a gown to wear; between her enormous belly and massive breasts which hung over either side, the gown practically came to her upper thigh, and made the gown feel uncomfortably breezy.

Susan hung on to a nurse as another bout of contractions overtook her. She nearly toppled over when another set of hands held her. She looked up to see Nathan with a worried look in his eyes.

The nurse looked at her watch. “Looks like we made it just on time, you’re just starting your second phase of contractions. Let’s get you over to the birthing chair.” The two of them walked her over to the other side of the room where a very odd looking chair sat.

As they got her seated the Doctor Reese walked in. “Oh good everything is set up, good work.” She walked over to Susan’s side and checked her pulse.

“Welcome back Susan, today’s the big day!” Susan responded with a forced smile as things suddenly accelerated. Doctor Reese looked to Nathan who sat besides her. “Nathan, would you like to stick around or wait outside?”

“I would like to stay with Susan if I can.” He said, rubbing her hand and stroking her head.

“Excellent.” She turned back to Susan. “And Susan, would you like an epidural?”

Susan bit her lip as another contraction overtook her. “Yes. Yes please.”

Dr. Reese chuckled, signaling a nurse over who went around the back of the chair. “It’s a big one, I would be far more concerned if you didn’t.”

Susan felt the nurse rub something on her back, followed by a sharp pain, and then... nothing.

“That should do it, now with the epidural you’ll feel the pressure but not the pain. And because of that I’m going to need you to rely on me more and do as I say okay?” She gave Susan a smile.

Susan nodded.

“Great, let’s get started then.”

Susan woke groggily from her rest. She looked to her side to see Nathan sitting on the sofa next to her, holding one of their children softly swaying them to sleep, surrounded by 7 small cribs, where the others also slept. She had been so tired that she had gone in and out of sleep.

She was grateful for Nathan being there during the birth. She was so loopy that naming the kids as they came out - even when they had discussed potential names beforehand - was almost a chore in the moment, her mind constantly overwhelmed. But Nathan helped guide her and they made it through together. The nurses taking the kids afterwards so they could them a checkup. Nathan himself took care of the kids while Susan rested after the procedure. He noticed her looking at him and gave a wide grin. She smiled back.

“Hey you.” Nathan said.

“H-hey yourself.” Susan rubbed her sleepy eyes, before glancing over to the other cribs. “Who is that you’re holding, Samantha?”

Nathan nodded. “Do you want to hold her?”

Her eyes glistened, and he knew all he needed to know. He got up and carefully handed over Samantha into Susan’s arms. It woke her up, but shortly after, the baby girl drifted back to sleep. She looked so content, perhaps finally getting some good sleep after sharing space with all of her siblings for so long.

Susan giggled softly, careful to not wake her back up. “Nat... she’s totally got your eyes. And from the looks of it, your hair too!” She caressed Samantha’s head with her free hand.

“That she does... I’ve been looking at them for hours now...” Nathan leaned in over the bed, putting his arm around her. “Alexandria has your eyes and hair. The others have both of each, Aiden and Evan have your eyes and my hair... so does Zoey. Lindsey and Amanda have my eyes but your hair.”

“Gosh... they are just... so pretty, Nathan...” Susan’s eyes started to fill up. “Did... did we really do this?”

He stroked her hair before kissing her forehead, his emotions getting the better of him too. “It’s unbelievable I know...”

Her head started to feel heavy as a wave of fatigue hit her. The birth took a lot out of her. Susan handed Samantha back to him. He gave another kiss on her head.

“Go and get some more rest, Suu.”

With his comforting touch and words, Susan found herself falling asleep shortly after.

She continued to drift between dream land and the real world. Each time she woke up, the sun moved up further and further until the rays no longer hit the room. There was a light knock on the door which pulled Susan’s attention to find her mom standing there a large duffle bag in hand. “Mom!”

Annika walked in, closing the door behind her and setting the bag down at her feet, kissing Susan's forehead before taking a seat next to the bed. “I see you’re feeling better.”

“Still a bit groggy, but yeah!” Susan giggled, before glancing out to the balcony where Nathan was holding one of the kids. “I’ve been sleeping so much but Nathan’s been with me the entire time.”

Annika looked over her shoulder smiling. “He has taken to the kids extremely quickly. You found a good match.”

“Hehe...”

“Having a good partner is extremely important for a budding family.” Susan’s mom looked back at her. “Your father has been the guiding light for me for years.”

She hesitated slightly.

“I know that I haven’t always been the best mother. I’ve tried to be there as much as I could, but I know I could never do as much as I wanted. I’ve always been so distractable. You relied on your father to do a lot of the work that I should have. And I wanted to apologize for that.” Susan’s mom started to tear up slightly. “I thought I would have more time. But you grew up too quickly.”

She bent over pulling out a large binder, which she opened. In it were various photos of Susan. “There are memories in this album that I never want to let go of. It's the one thing that I've always managed to stay on top of. Kim was even kind enough to print out your wedding photos for me.” She flipped over towards the end, where Susan saw several photos of herself on her wedding day.

"As you grow older you're going to find that so much happens that it'll be hard to remember everything you want to. This book is for me.” Susan’s mom voice wavered. She closed the book and held it close to her body. Her arms sinking into the soft, almost pillow-like cloth cover.

She took a deep breath, wiping a couple tears from her eyes, then nodding to the duffle bag. ”But I bought these for you." She bent over pulling an almost identical book from inside the bag, handing it to Susan. The binder was empty but had almost identical construction to the one her mother was holding. A pillow-like cover of light blue patterned cloth. A name was embroidered on the front in cursive. Samantha

"You have a long life ahead of you, and before you realize it, your children will have grown and moved on. But this will stay. Memories worth treasuring."

Susan looked back to her mom, who’s hands tightly gripped the book she held. The cloth was a pale green pattern of trees. The words Susan’s Life embroidered in cursive across the front in emerald font.
