We had 2 basins of olivier, 5 bowls of jelly, herring under a fur coat, olives, half a can of horseradish, a box of chocolates and a whole lot of meat cuts of all varieties and colors, as well as champagne, vodka, a case of beer, a bottle of red wine and juice. Not that it was a necessary supply for the New Year. But if you start to set the table, it becomes difficult to stop. The only thing that caused me fear was firecrackers. There is no one more helpless, irresponsible and spoiled than people with firecrackers. I knew that sooner or later we would try this stuff.
