This episode involves some set destruction, so I've had to build a fairly detailed 3D recreation of the room that's rigged up with various animatable textures and simulations to control the amount of damage as needed.

Is this similar to what you did in the Mirror Ball video to make your mirror shatter on the first attempt?

No, for that I took a still frame of the shot at the moment the mirror is supposed to start shattering, flipped it, then actually reflected it in a 3D mirror that shattered via simulation.
