Tonight's shoot went great! But I made one rookie visual effects mistake. For the exit gag (my departure at the end of every episode that involves some sort of visual joke) I forgot to capture a clean plate - a shot of the room without me in it, which is needed for some of the effects. Now I'll have to photoshop that together somehow out of different frames of footage where I'm in the shot.

Nothing's ever easy!

Why can't you go back and shoot the room? Different camera arrangements and such?

It's a matter of having the exact angle and lighting as the other shot, so the only way would have been to grab a few seconds of the empty background while the camera is still set up for the original shot. I realized I forgot to do it by the time we were finishing the shoot, but it was already too late... It's okay though. Another chance to exercise creating clean plates, which is something VFX artists have to do all the time!
