I wonder to what extent the America's Got Talent show is rigged. Captain D just demonstrated that the performances themselves can be heavily modified, so what if the final vote counts are rigged as well? What if some of the "live" singing we view is actually a prerecorded version, edited and overlapping the actual singing they do on stage?

Yay! Glad I stayed up a little later! Thank you!!

"I'm tired I think I'll... WATCH THIS NEW CAP VIDEO!"

Nice! I like magic and enjoy seeing how it is done -- whether by skillful illusion or by skillful editing tricks.

That was so good I got lost and thought I was on Netflix watching things. Delightful, funny, and informative as always, thank you!

Man, I would love for you to do a whole video exposing the fakery on big name reality shows.

Fantastic video, does anyone have the video describing the "surgeon" magician thing he's talking about?

CaptainDisillusion

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me. I meant to put a card link to someone's video about it during that part.

Captain, are you sure the ON/OFF finger trick is VFX? SansMagic has a gimmick for it on their site: https://www.sansminds.com/product/on-off-by-nicholas-lawrence-2/

G'day Captain, new to the team here but I'm so glad I made the move 🤗 Your work is glorious, keep up the fantastic production. 👍🏽

Clever and fun, you rock capt D! Happy to support your efforts, keep them coming.

Worth the wait as always. I do like it when your videos raise a question in addition to the usual exploration and explanation of some kind of effect.

As always, you D man!

Three thumbs up!

This felt like the longest Quick D ever. Very satisfied.

CaptainDisillusion

I'm sure his vid is VFX, but man, I wish I had come across this trick because it's such a clear illustration of marketing a gimmick with a VFX video.. I would've totally included it. Thanks!

CaptainDisillusion

I don't think it goes that far, but they certainly do a lot to make the whole process seem faster and cooler for the TV audience.

Pure quality, as all your videos are.

So the trick at the end is "how did Captain D snap his fingers with those gloves on"?

Anonymous

Excellent video! I was more or less convinced that the coins-on-a-table routine was purely based on some clever and fast mechanical contraption. Kinda disappointing to see that they had to "fix" the performance with VFX due to the mechanics probably being too slow even for 30fps...

Tamerax

i am still laughing at the "types of magic" list hahahaha...animalerotic and dave

Timmo Warner

Great video! I was amazed he had a device which could reveal things instantly, right in front of your eyes! Looks like he didn't, after all. Also, I've submitted this video to Boing Boing in hopes they'll post it as a follow up to their post which highlighted the original trick.

I had thought it was a TV monitor carefully lit combined with some slide of hand.

The "socially different" indeed. The issue with these kind of slick edited magic vids are that kids now think it's ok to just fake it since these are their performing "role models" and that if they see something they can't explain they just dismiss it as a camera trick. This recently happened to me, where something I worked on for 2 years to make look good, not only on camera but also LIVE, was being thought of as a camera edit. Personally speaking, I work too damn hard to contribute to the art and create something new to have it just waved away because of these other asshats who cheat it. < /rant >

You might want to think about a $100/month option--just to see what would happen...
