Most of the songs I’ve shared so far have been rock or alternative, and most coming into my life when I was young. This one is in some ways my favorite song of my adult life. I fell in love with electronic music as an older teenager, and it’s been my most listened to genre for a long time. There are endless styles and sub-genres and I’m all into that, I even started learning how to dj a few years ago. My tastes in this genre change a lot and I’m always discovering new things, but Rufus has stood the test of time. Their music is highly emotional and tells a story — something you don’t always get with electronic.

At almost 10 minutes long, Innerbloom to me is an entire journey, with highs and lows and peaks and valleys and a clear yet nuanced message. The combination of the unique and very layered sound with the weighty and evocative lyrics just does something to my brain. In some ways to me this is the most relatable love song ever made.
