Hello there dear Patrons,

today I'd like to mention a very interesting source of inspiration as far as historical costuming is concerned - namely, a TV series entitled "Harlots".

It has been created by Moira Buffiniand and Allison Newman, based on a Hallie Rubenhold book "The Covent Garden Ladies". It tells a story of a brothel and a family business in 18 century London.

The costumes were designed by Edward Gibbon with a very interesting approach. He sticks to the historical things in terms of the main silhouette, but what happens outside is just like freedom. One could easily say that this or that fabric is historically inaccurate and so on, but the general feeling of what people would wear at that time while walking the streets of 18 century London seems right.

I've seen that many of the costumes were re-used from other productions but with success I think. This proves a simple rule of historical dramas - if you try to follow the fashionable historical silhouette and the logic of those garments - you'll be successful.

Besides, the cast here is fantastic. Featuring Jessica Brown, Samantha Morton, Liv Tyler, Tim McInnerny, Alfie Allen and others.

I strongly recommend this one for those, who as I do, like historical stuff ;)

Have a great weekend guys!
K.
