Hello there Patrons :)

Hope you're having a nice weekend.

This time in the inspirational section I'd like to show you this iconic 1994 Patrice Chéreau movie starring Isabelle Adjani, Daniel Auteuil, Vincent Perez and many other grand French actors.

The plot is based on an Alexander Dumas novel, which tell the story of young Queen Margot de Valois, who finds herself trapped in an arranged marriage amidst a religious war between Catholics and Protestants.

The atmosphere of this movie is pretty dark, and shows a contrast between the perfect outer aesthetics of royal and rich costumes combined with naturalist scenes of death, murder, sickness, cruelty and also love.

The costumes are particularly beautiful here. They were designed by Moidele Bickel and perfectly fit the Late Renaissance era with their rich patterns (even though not totally historically accurate ;) )

I have to admit that this movie pushed me very much towards diving more into the historical fashions. After I saw it the first time I started to sketch some of the scenes and it was a very extiting and creative thing to do back then.

I strongly recommend Queen Margot to anyone interested in history, art and drama.

K.
