I'm currently surrounded by the UVW mapping topic. I'm doing mapping of the bodice and skirt of the upcoming 1640 Rembrandt Gown and writing the UVW Mapping Basics and Tips tutorial for you guys.

I did the bodice last week and I started the straight skirt this week. The last element taught me an important lesson - always map a cloth before simulating it ;)

I thought that it will be possible to relax every fabric in every shape, but in case of this heavily gathered cloth it's a pain in the neck ;)

Luckily, I still have the simulation stored and I can revert to the initial state of the skirt ;)

I was also debating if I should use the most resolution with the skirt or to keep the aspect ratio of the initial fabric piece. I decided to use the most resolution at this point. We'll se how this will affect the material creation stage ;)

I also plan to do a gathered skirt tutorial in the future for 3dsMax since it's quite a interesting topic and definitely a spectacular simulation to watch.

I hope the new tutorial chapter will be ready this week.

Keep your fingers crossed guys!

K.
