I'm going with A. I don't think you can just bring this kind of thing in out of nowhere or every cross-examination would include it. But I don't think it's B because it's clearly intended to impeach the witness, and I think that impeachment evidence doesn't have to bear directly on the case.

I'm going with B. If the plaintiff's lawyer brought up that the witness is very honest, then the witness's past is fair game. I don't think it is A. Past conduct can be used to show character.
