And it really fucking sucks.

It was Akanoes who told me, with a "Sorry your game was cancelled, btw" and I didn't know what he was talking about. Nobody at Gunsmoke had even told me. They apparently also released a lot of the game's assets without asking (I own the copyright). So there's that.

After having me change the game script twice, get rid of all the clothes and customization, and then reduce it to a linear visual novel, it finally got canned. It was a long, weird process in which I -because of all the changes- spent way more time and energy than it should have been necessary, and GG spent more money than it should have spent.

All the art but the "bad ending" image -and much much more that wasn't going to be used- was -and is- already done. I even asked them if there was something they didn't have so I could send it to them after I came back from my hiking trip. They never replied. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Here's their post announcing it to their patrons, so you can read their version as well:

Not a very nice day for me. But hey, at least I got a ton of writing and painting practice. Always look on the bright side of life, as the Pythons say. Talk soon,

Newman.

Yeah, I like the su game but sometimes I wonder about supporting them...

Darkwolf

Ok seriously what was this game about?!! I still don't know anything about it at all!!

Anonymous

If all the game was done then please tell them why there's no monster or monster assets whatsoever? Or how about you tell them why we had to commission sex scenes from you, because there were none, after you'd supposedly been working on the game for nearly 2 years getting paid monthly. Or, how about you tell them how we paid you for that bad ending image and you never delivered it? Or how you outright refused to finish pieces of the commission work after being late for the deadline and already being paid?

Cae_sar

Sucks even more knowing not even the test build is gonna ever be released after all that work. But oh well, so its life and buisness. One day we will have the Scooby Doo H-game we don't deserve but we need!

I'm still waiting for a bleach game! Speaking of games we need!

Tyrranus Lord

I was lookin forward to it... but I was also looking forward to the BenX game too... then it went nowhere for over a year

Tonio

Just stop, stop everything together and go on a vacation.

But... but... Velma D:

Honestly the best thing you've got from the cancellation was the ability to reaculate time assists and energy to you're own stuff cutting out the middle man a bit so to speak.

MrAbusay

I guess we'll judge ourselves if all the art or almost was done.

Newman

Wow, you really are a lying piece of corporate crap aren't you? Boy, was I wrong about you. The scenes were done. YOU didn't pay for anything. All you did was NOT working on the game, and constantly change it so it never got done, because you were too bad a coder or too lazy to do the game you were supposed to do. You may have lied yourself up Smoke's ass, man. But don't fucking smear your shit in here.

Newman

Yep, and unlike Smoke and Locke are planning, I'm releasing everything for free. The art being mine and not theirs, I'm actually legally allowed to do it. Seriously amazed at how they're lashing out after all the fuck-ups.

Wait what? let me get this right the game was canned because of testers did not like it? Hell why not do a public alpha see what people think about it and go from there. I mean when you say "We were never expecting to make a large Scooby game with a continuous development process. That was never the goal. We were simply seeking to make something small and very appropriate for Newgrounds, like Bend or Break." Does that mean a non finished game was going to be it? Don't get me wrong Bend or Break could have been something great. But why not finish it? I mean if people want it and willing to support the game then why not?

Patrick

… make me glad I did not support the game then... how they failed at it I am not sure... it seems fairly straight forward to me.

I'm starting to think about not supporting SU anymore also. These dude's are getting $9,000 a month, and releasing broken content at a two month interval. I think they just collect the first month's pay for doing nothing and release what content they can work out in a month as part of there "two month" endevor. I really am a big fan of SU, but cancelling and coming back in a year seems like it's starting to make more sense.

Newman

They're shifting their business goals towards a bright new future or some shit. I even offered to do the game myself and send them builds as Akanoes and I worked on them and Smoke refused.

Newman

I know Sunset works hard, he's a really good artist and he seems to be interested on doing ambitious games, which is something I'm fully behind. I'm a big fan of Bruce Timm and he completely pulls it off too! I think he deserves all the credit he can get, man. But hey, it's your money. Your choice.

DeadtotheWorld

You should really consider getting someone to help you make it a reality.
