I was not a fan of this movie either and had to Google the explanation of it.

I feel bad for the average person who tries to watch this as their first David Lynch film. It should be built up to. First you watch either Wild At Heart (Nicholas Cage, Laura Dern, and Willem Dafoe), or Blue Velvet. They are filled with his weird and quirky things but the stories actually make sense. I already had 15 years of watching his stuff by the time Mulholland Drive came out, and I still found it hard to make heads or tales of. Watching it first.... wow. What a baptism of fire.
