Just a correction as you kept referring to watching this duo a few months back. Laurel and Hardy were early this year and now Abbott and Costello. You mention good comedy from older movies and I think of Danny Kaye. You may remember him as the goofy one from White Christmas, but that's just a taste of his comedy genius. I would request his 1955 comedy The Court Jester with a young Angela Lansbury as the beautiful princess and classic swordsman Basil Rathbone. Good clean side-splitting fun. :)

Oh, Danny Kaye, absolutely!!!! And The Court Jester is a great place to start. Incidedntally, aside from his comedy, look on YouTube for the clip of Danny Kaye and Louis Armstrong singing "When the Saints Go Marching In". Not them doing it on talk shows, but the original version from the film "The Five Pennies". It's one of the most joyous things I've ever seen. Incredible singing, incredible stage presence, and the obvious great fun they had working together. I dare anyone to watch it without smiling.
