Since I was the first one to comment, I figured I would do a follow up here as well after seeing the film and your reaction. I can totally understand your point of view on the film. This film (like many other films from the 1970s) often challenge viewers today. There are often not central characters who give narratives explaining what is being watched which is a form often used in films today to help explain to audiences what is happening in the film. Additionally, thanks both to the show's creators and the film director (The director, Mr. Forman, was the same director as the film you saw a while back about the life of Mozart entitled, 'Amadeus' as well as 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Next') there are many, many layers of meaning within single songs and single scenes; however, unless you are prepared ahead of time, it can be difficult to figure them out on your own or indeed even be aware that is what you might want to do. To be fair, there have been many films from this era I have had to watch again after my first viewing (several at the urging of friends) to really understand and appreciate what was happening and what the true meaning of the film was and why it was important and a work of art.
