Harry Potter & The Order of the Pheonix Review

When you said you did not like Umbridge, I can safely say, you are NOT the only one. Practically EVERY Harry Potter fan hates her!

Elisa H.

i can't remember, in the movie do they ever state that Bellatrix tortured Neville's parents to insanity or that's for the book readers?

Matthew Periolat

My biggest regret from adapting OOTP from book to movie is losing one of Harry’s meltdowns where he’s complaining that no one understands what he’s going through. Ginny just says “Well, you could have asked me. I’m the one who had Voldemort living in my head for a year because of the diary.” Harry says “Oh… I forgot.” “Lucky you.” says Ginny. Yeah, Ginny kicks ass.

The fate worse than death for Neville’s parents was that they were tortured past the point of insanity. Neville lives with his grandmother because his parents are permanent residents at a magical hospital. It was super briefly mentioned in this movie but the books talk about it more.

Bryan Foster

He tells Harry after one of the DA meetings, but tells Harry he’s not ready for the rest to know yet.

I wish they would have put this exchange in: McGonagall talking to Harry: “You yelled at Professor Umbridge?” “Yes Professor” “And you called her a liar?” “Yes Professor” “Have a biscuit, Potter” 🤣

Everyone hates Umbridge, which is a testament to how good the actress was. The VP at my kid's elementary school looked a lot like Umbridge, to the point that among the other parents she was called Umbridge and I quickly forgot her real name!

And you see Neville respond to Bellatrix's taunting by saying that he'll be revenging their death on her.

Ashleigh: some of your questions were actually answered in the movie. The problem with the later movies is that the books got bigger and bigger. When they distilled them down to a screenplay, there was no "slack" for anything unimportant. These movies are a data dump the entire time. And it's not unusual for movies to require a few viewings to catch all the links between things. One movie (a big one with Robin Williams) was so complex that I didn't _start_ to figure out what was going on until about my 5th viewing. Which is probably overdoing the foreshadowing and symbolism a bit too much.

I'm looking forward to the rest. Some of the things you're wanting to see won't resolve until later movies, and I'm really looking forward to your reaction. One item in particular was hinted at in the first movie, but doesn't resolve itself until the last movie.

Or when Umbridge becomes High Inquisitor, and McGonnagal spots Peeves trying to unscrew a large chandelier, and whispers out of the corner of her mouth "it unscrews the other way". Oh, right... Peeves...

There are not different dimensions, muggles and magic users are all on the same planet in the same dimension. Magic stays hidden.

Death Eaters tortured Neville’s parents with the Cruciatus Curse. They are still alive at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies, Neville visits with them.

I took my kids to see these films when they came out. I'm watching now and don't remember ANY of this. I know I seen it! Hahaha.

If I were a Hogwarts student during this time, I would have been best friends with Luna. Forget the main characters. She's the best.
