If Ashleigh happens to read this comment, an you let us know which version of Lord of the Rings (theatrical or extended) you watched so we can be sure to have a copy handy for Thursday?

Lynette Cummins

I'm really looking forward to Ashleigh's review of Lord of the Rings. My money is on her liking all of them, no matter which version she watches.

Jacob Colson

Next robin Williams movie: either Death to Smoochy, Insomnia, One Hour Photo. And since Ashleigh will watch Overboard next Monday, another great Kurt Russell flick, Captain Ron!

Everything is worth a try. ❤️

Follow your dreams, like quitting radio and reviewing videos on YT! The channel has come so far and this was a great review. Another vote for Good Morning Vietnam and Mrs. Doubtfire.

Jacob Colson

I do wish though they'd release the soundtrack to the movie. That'd be awesome. All the songs sung by Edward Norton and Robin Williams. And another movie Major League, I wish they'd release the whole score of that film. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Michael Tocci

Ashleigh! The actor who played Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) was in Season 4 of Stranger Things! (He plays the older "Victor" in the prison scene... definitely a shout out to Freddy).

Michael Tocci

Maybe I saw it at the right age, but I loved the not-so-critically-admired "Hook" with Robin Williams, directed by Spielberg

Kenton Kruger

Not just the soundtrack, which would be awesome, but I'd pay for a lot of the in-movie merch ;)

David Bennett

I'm glad you enjoyed this film, Ashleigh and that it had such an impact on you. There are SO many Robin Williams movies that are worth watching. By the way, Kurtwood Smith is the actor who played Neil's father (and Red "you're a dumbass" Foreman....comedy gold, that 70's show is....).

A point I have brought up before. It does seem that in large part, if you were a child of the 70s/80s and were of that right age when E.T. came out, that film was a masterpiece, the feather in the cap of Steven Spielbergs streak of brilliance (Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark) during the mid-70s to the late 80s, up until the time he decided to try his hand at more serious films (The Color Purple, Empire of the Sun). People from this generation would regard late 80s/early 90s. Spielberg films like Always and Hook as two of Spieberg's weakest films. However, kids from later generations loved this shit out of Hook and they still treasure it as one of their favorites today. Conversely, these kids hated E.T., seeing it as overly saccharine and manipulative. We already know that Ashley somehow discovered Always and it was her biggest tearjerker until Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes. And I do believe she might have indicated once or twice that E.T. was perhaps not her favorite. So following that logic, it does indicate that she would be a big fan of Hook.

I previously suggested she watch the extended editions but split each one up into two viewings. The DVD/BluRay versions already have the perfect "act break". (I imagine has likely already filmed her first reaction and is working on post at this time, so she has already made her choice.)

Lynette Cummins

I was curious to see what the difference in time is between them. The original LotR movies are 9.2 hours. The extended version is 11.36 hours..... I don't believe I've seen the extended version. Not sure it is necessary but I understand why people like them, the movies are great. We will finally know what Ashleigh chose this Thursday. 👍

Michael Tocci

In any case, no one can say Dustin Hoffman isn't committing to Hook like a boss

Anonymous

Dustin Hoffman was reportedly so in awe of Spielberg's knowledge and expertise, he wasn't his usual difficult self as he was with other directors. And yes, he defintely gave it 110%. Him and Bob Hoskins were great together.

And who can forget "Clarence Boddicker"(preferably spoken in Robocop's voice) from "Robocop"? :)

Fellowship of the Ring theatrical is 178 minutes. The extended is 208 minutes. But that is not including 19 minutes of ending credits that is listing fan-club members.

Lynette Cummins

At least they have all that extra footage. It was probably hard for Peter Jackson to pick what had to stay and what had to go. Maybe I'll go down the rabbit hole and watch the extended version.

This movie hits different when you know what happens to Robin Williams later in his life. I lost my best friend to her taking her own life on 10/28/20. (the same way as Neil did in the movie) Suicide is so tragic. It leaves those that love them with questions unanswered and a life with not knowing what we could have done differently. I miss her every day. Neil took his life because he couldn't face disappointing his family yet couldn't deal with the not living his own truth for himself. It is so damn sad. <3

Kevin Mowery

And now you can watch the SNL spoof Farewell, Mr. Bunting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie6LpKOJVf0

Jacob Colson

Oh, totally. I do wish it'd get a Blu-ray (maybe 4K?) special edition release.

Insomnia and One Hour Photo are great examples of "dark" Robin Williams which he does very well...also loved his Emmy winning portrayal of Merritt Rook on Law and Order SVU

Dale Hardy

You notice Red Forman but you didn't notice Kitty in "BIG" lol.
