Tomorrow is Memorial Day in the States, where we remember the brave men and woman who gave their all of our country.  This movie is such a sobering and touching tribute. I highly recommend this film. Kevin Bacon really knocked it out of the park.

There are only two people that gave their lives for you, Jesus Christ gave his life for your soul, and the American soldier gave his life for your freedom.

Military ribbons are fascinating. There are some specific to a branch of the military. Some are for individual achievements. Some are the same for all branches, like campaign ribbons for Vietnam, Gulf War...etc. It's interesting enough to read about.

A really good series about WWII is Band of Brothers, it was originally released on HBO. It's a 10 part series so I'm not sure if it's one Ashleigh would get to, but for all of you guys, if you like a very good series you should see it. Plus, every episode starts with the old veterans that were actually a part of the Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division. I agree with the Saving Private Ryan comments for Ashleigh to see. She would really like it.

I have Band of Brothers on DVD and it's really good. If Ashleigh wants to watch war movies, Saving Private Ryan would be a tough place to start because its so graphic. She should start with something like Kelly's Heroes or The Dirty Dozen and work her way up to Private Ryan. It's like you don't start to learn swimming by jumping in the deep end.

Ok, so before I dive in too far past (Post Movie Ashley's announcement) When it comes to war movies, there really are some sub-categories. Movies like (Saving Private Ryan) and (Hacksaw Ridge) will crush the heart, and squeeze out the tears. Some of the classiscs like (The Dirty Dozen) are feel good " Go Get'em boys!" types of tone. I think you should dive into them, but be aware that they can range from dramatic tear jerker all the way to 80s action style. So, if one isn't quite your flavor, don't pass on the rest.

Bless your heart. Sweetie, you truly oughta consider keeping a few boxes of tissues in the attic for these unexpected boo hoos. Thank you for this movie review Little Sis. My dad was in the Navy and my hubby's dad was in the Army. I also have a brother in the Marines. I considered going into the Army myself but life things changed my direction. I appreciate all the military personnel. Thank you to all those who have served in the past and currently serve. A special thank you to all those who lost their lives while serving our country.

Great reaction...honestly had never heard of this movie before but the reaction has piqued my interest definitely gonna check it out...Bacon is an old pro for sure can't go wrong with him...Happy Memorial Day and a heartfelt Thank You to those who gave all

Watched this movie so I could watch the reaction. Good pick, and I think it's a better tribute than a fair amount of war films, as some of them (intended or not) can glamorous war. A great anti-war film is "Paths of Glory," though I would never suggest it as a tribute!

I watched this movie for the first time when I was in school for funeral directing, and I needed tissues every time people took their hats off or did some kind of show of respect. Now, when I do funerals with military honors, my eyes still get misty when they play Taps every time.

As a Marine Corps veteran, thank you so much for watching this. It's even more appreciative when some other reactors are watching garbage like Full Metal Jacket.

In 1973 I was a young Marine flying between Japan and the Philippines on an Air Force C-141 transport. The loadmaster pointed out two rectangular containers toward the tail of the aircraft. The paperwork taped to the sides of each container read "Human Remains". That was quite a wake-up call for a 19 year old on his first tour.

Paths of Glory is one of my favorite movies of all time but might be a little heavy for this channel.

Boy do I have a list of movies-i-love-but-am-scared-to-suggest-for-this-channel

Ok I will take the bait. Why is FMJ garbage? It may not be Kubrick's best film but it is still way better than this movie (which I like a lot) and 90% of war movies out there.

I would like to recommend for this year's Veteran's Day Nov. 11, 2022 (which is a Friday), watching Full Metal Jacket (1987). It is a Stanley Kubrick film that is a fairly realistic representation of recruitment training and serving in Vietnam in the 1960s. Very good film with good actors. Have those tissues ready tho. ;)

As someone who was passionately against the Iraq War, who lost close friends there, I went into this with gritted teeth. I was expecting something more overtly pro-war. Every time Bacon encountered a civilian, I expected to see a thinly-drawn caricature of a disrespectful liberal for him to either stand up to or stoically ignore. But I tremendously admire the restraint demonstrated here, and the moral simplicity of Colonel Strobl’s mission. Left or right, we can all agree that those who lose their lives in service to this country deserve our utmost respect and awe.
