I watched that show as a kid. Since Spiderman was on the Electric Company, I was all about him. In the early 80's I collected comics and Spiderman was my favorite. I even got a raggity Spiderman #1 that I got at a comic convention for $25.

I remember watching this in theaters back in 2002 and it was exhilarating to say the least! The audience clapped so hard at the end and I knew it would be a MUST SEE. Glad you enjoyed it!

OK, so Spider-Man (2002) and its 2 sequels Spider-Man 2 and 3 are their own universe separate from the MCU. Some people call it the Raimiverse after its director. Then Sony Pictures rebooted it in 2012 as The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. Those star Andrew Garfield in the role. Also a separate universe, sometimes called the Sonyverse. Spider-Man DOES show up in the MCU, this time played by Tom Holland, and you'll actually see his first appearance fairly soon.

Let's keep it simple. Any Marvel movie made before 2008 is not part of the MCU, which started with Iron Man. Let's take a moment to appreciate what a massive hit this movie was on release. Without even adjusting for inflation, Spider-Man (2002) made more money at the box office than either of the first two proper MCU Spider-Man films. Arguably, Spider-Man set the standard for superhero movies for eyars to come. And Spider-Man 2 is still one of the best superhero movies ever made.

I hope Ashleigh watches all the Toby and Andrew Spiderman films. She is gonna just crumble apart in Andrew's Amazing Spiderman 2.

The main reason Willem Dafoe is so fit for his age is he has been doing an hour and a half of Ashtanga Yoga every day for over 43 years. That is some dedication. He is so bendy he could put his head between his legs and kiss his own booty. ;) A not so fun fact: Toby Maquire almost drowned in the upside down kissing scene in the rain because the water kept filling his nose up being upside down. He powered thru though.

Jason Skeans

he didn't tell anyone he got bit because like many of us he's poor and doesn't have proper health insurance

Gilbert was in Ford Fairlane and Aladin.

As you noted in the movie: Peter Parker was the first comic superhero to have real problems, he is a teen, in high school, nerd, girls, money, living with his aunt, his boss hates Spiderman and many more. Your normal comic book reader can't relate with Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Tony Stark; here they found one of their own, a superhero as well.

James Falato

Remember Peter Parker is a Teenager... Thus immature...

I suppose she should really watch the Andrew Garfield Spider Man as well, because... you know. What about Miles Morales? Into the Spiderverse?

Matt Blanchette

For Dafoe, I suppose "The Last Temptation of Christ" might be an interesting one to recommend. ;-)

Regarding the hand gesture for when he shoots his webs, in the comics, he didn't have the "organic" web shooting ability. It was a formula that he came up with and had "web-shooter" devices on his wrists and the triggers were on the palms of his hands. So, even though they changed it from the mechanical shooters, they wanted his motions and poses to be the same from the comics and cartoons. The idea for having it just be part of him actually came from a different, future version of Spider-man, from the year 2099. As it turns out, in the books, there are lots of Spider-man's (Spider-men? Spider-people, actually.) these days.

Kenton Kruger

Yeah I liked him but he certainly had no good movies (Aladdin aside)). Ford Fairlane would be about the only interesting choice I could think of only because of how much Ashleigh would hate it. We could knock E.T. out of bottom place if that one ever got through.

Kenton Kruger

Have not seen that since it was in theaters. I do remember 17 year old me being quite impressed by it.

Matt Blanchette

It's Scorsese; guy's generally impressive. ;-) Also has one of the few acting performances of Irvin Kershner, who directed "The Empire Strikes Back", "The Return of A Man Called Horse", "Eyes of Laura Mars", "The Flim-Flam Man", "A Fine Madness", "RoboCop 2", and "Never Say Never Again".

I loved "The Flim-Flam Man"...gotta love George C. Scott I have previously advocated for "They Might Be Giants" and "The Changeling" on these boards...but let's throw in "Patton" and "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" as well
