I've had tears running down my face watching you react to this film. Brilliant 👏 👏

Anybody else stop what they're doing when the upload appears? I was watching a DVD and was part way through an episode lol. Stopped it and watched this reaction video. So pleased I did really was very funny.

Keep doing comedies. I love your laugh.

Thomas Monk

This commercial from the 1970s will clarify one of the running jokes in the movie Airplane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ4kCF22O2w

LOVE! watching youths find this film; things were so much more permissive back then; humor and all

I was laughing the moment i saw that this was gonna be your reaction video for today. I know your reactions will be priceless for this

Thomas Monk

You might appreciate this video. It's an interview of the actress who spoke jive in this movie. She was a popular actress, and played the all-American mother on "Leave it to Beaver." She talks about the role and how it actually impacted her career. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUw2fIa0dSI

Two thumbs up! I wish I had more thumbs so I could offer greater praise.

We just finished the ride... this is a fun one.

David Patterson

There is a rumor that every time Bill Murray flies, he asks to see the cockpit, and when they let him, he says 'I want to wish you both good luck. We're all counting on you.' then returns to his seat. I don't know if it's true, but it sounds like Bill Murray to me.

Thomas Yanez

Wow, I always new it was a parody of American commercials, but I never knew it was a specific commercial and they brought back the actress, too. Thanks!

This movie is an American cultural icon. So much fun watching you react to it! I saw Shelf drama on Instagram and it was totally worth watching again! LOLOL

Kathy Ice

And yes, this is the movie that ruined the word "surely" forever and ever. And don't call me Shirley!

Great movie! Enjoyed your reactions too

Tyrone Tyrone

You're actually too young to get some of the jokes you would've have to been around in those days. With some of the actors/actress just being in the film was the joke. And yes "stop calling me Shirley" came from this movie.

Thomas Yanez

Another thing about this movie is that it is an early example of a movie that plays with the credits. In this case, inserting comments and jokes into the credit text. But, also, an MCU-style post-credit sequence for one last callback to one of the movie's recurring jokes.

Thomas Yanez

Many jokes based on pop culture references still work, like the "Jaws" reference at the beginning, but some finally faded away, even though they were probably considered to be eternal back when the movie was made. For example, the flashback with the couple on the beach being a reference to the beach scene in 1953's "From Here to Eternity". But, even in this case, there is still fun to be had in the absurdity of a couple on the beach NOT reacting to the fact that the waves were hitting them, unlike the original.

Thomas Monk

Glad you recognized Ethel Merman.... I know you weren't into "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" all that much... but here's a clip with her and Lucille Ball. In addition to acting, she was also a popular singer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu1vAQiYoEU

FYI, they did used to let kids visit the cockpit mid-flight. Those where also the days when they had smoking and non-smoking sections on planes. Not that it really mattered which section you were in - it's not like there was a barrier around the smoking section, so that shit permeated the plane regardless, but at least you knew you wouldn't be sitting right next to someone who was going to light up mid-flight in the non-smoking section. Anyway, 9/11 pretty much put a stop to visitors to the cockpit. Now the pilots are required to lock the doors before pushback and keep them locked throughout the flight. The only time they're unlocked is if one of the pilots needs to go to the bathroom and, at least on the airline that I used to work for as a flight attendant, a flight attendant has to go into the cockpit so the door can be locked again and unlocked when the pilot gets back. The co-pilot being busy flying the plane and all. I mean, not really because there's autopilot, but it's a safety measure so that if an emergency happens, the co-pilot can focus on flying and there's another person available to open the door when the other pilot returns.

I actually bought the digital copy to do the watch-a-long😂. No way was I going to limit myself to the edited version!

Anonymous

I've been watching a few of your watch-a-longs which have been fun. As soon as I saw that you posted "Airplane!" I had to do the watch-a-long first! This is probably the funniest movie from the 80's. There are too many funny moments to count. Watching your reaction to this one is just priceless. BTW, the older lady that spoke "jive" was a great gag. What makes it better is that she was the mother from Leave It To Beaver!!

Awww, you missed the final joke at the end of the credits.

Valerie Boyco

I loved your reaction to this great film, so much fun. I'm glad you liked it and hope you can talk hubbin into watching it, I bet you will find things you missed the first time, I know I am still seeing new things I missed after watching it for thirty years.

HercEl

During the scene where Rodger gets sick and Over takes over(😂) did anyone else hear the theme to the 70's show SWAT?

Anonymous

I would LOVE to see you react to "Noises Off"! It is SO funny, and it has a great cast! Julie Hagerty is in it as well. :)

Anonymous

Ashleigh I think I’ve said before every time I watch this movie I see something i missed before. When you pointed out the ice cream cone microphone I had never noticed that before 🤣

Anonymous

Ashleigh, I know you hate long car chase scenes, and it's probably silly of me to keep recommending one with a super long chases scene, but I STILL recommend Smokey & the Bandit! :p
