I didn't think of the music as songs so much as mood music to put the audience in the right mood for the scenes. Simon and Garfinkle wrote and performed the music. I first saw this movie with my company the night before we all shipped out for Vietnam. I loved it. I have watched the last 5 minutes of this movie over and over again. When Elaine looked at her mother, father, and new husband, and then turned and screamed "Be-e-en!". That may be my single favorite scene of all time. And then when her mother grabs her and tells her "It's too late!" and she yells back at her mother "Not for me!" That was icing on the cake.
