Castanea

the main reason people like Jayne is because of the scene at the beginning of ep 12- where you learn that his focus on money is because he sends as much as he can to his mother to take care of his sick brother.

Bernard Owens

Jayne's character arc has been pretty subtle but it's there if you look. - In the pilot, Serenity, he turned down enough money to buy his own ship. All he had to do was betray Mal but he didn't do it. - At the end of Ariel, he didn't want to be thought of as a person who would betray crew (even though he was) and sincerely felt bad which Mal recognized and spared his life. Only people with at least a little good in them are sincerely sorry for what they've done. And he deserves a little mercy here for even going down the betrayal path; as Mal said, he "got a little stabbed" and that can have a temporary impact on mood and judgement. - In War Stories he tells the rest of the crew that trying to save Mal is suicide. But then he gears up and joins them. - In The Message we find out he sends money to/takes care of family. - In Serenity, I hope Ashleigh will catch the one short line where he really seems to have changed deeply by suggesting the crew...well...I guess we should wait before talking about that, right?
