Check out this first time watching horror reaction video for Suspiria, and see if I can make it as a horror movie rookie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss. Typically my Halloween movie viewings consist of Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. This year I decided to expand my horror movie knowledge and try and watch these horror movie fan favourites. One of the things you will quickly learn about Dario Argento’s movies is that you may not get explanations for a lot of things. If the shot looks cool but makes no sense, he’ll shoot it, explanations be damned.

I like your summary of this, Jen. There's definitely lots of style here, and in many ways, it has a very dreamlike (or nightmarish) quality to it--in the sense that sometimes, like in a dream/nightmare (and if I recall, Leo in "Inception" basically said this) you just end up somewhere without being sure of how you got there. I first saw this on a VHS, so there was a little less quality visually to it, and I'm sure that had some bearing on my first experience. I didn't care for it the first time I saw it; appreciated it a bit more on the second viewing (which was on a DVD some years later). Hopefully you'll revisit Argento again. (I'll refrain from mentioning again my preferred Argento, which I've done ad nauseam...)

Yeah I have a long list of questions now that I’ve had more time to process it. It almost reminded me of a movie called Picnic At Hanging Rock, where they just let the viewer watch what’s happening but offer no explanation.

Thank you! Yes! Very dreamlike indeed, almost reminded me of a David Lynch movie. Honestly the music just about made me walk away lol it was overwhelming. I’m curious to watch more of his films and will rewatch Suspiria at some point.
