Our first video in a home made out of natural materials--hopefully the first of many!
This home was an absolute delight to live in, and by living there has helped shift our energy in a positive way. We have much more mindful of our resource consumption and ecological footprint.
For example, we've been saving grey water, and reuse it to flush toilets, water plants and clean around the home. We've began decluttering our belongings, and have been drastically minimizing our shopping habits. Before purchasing an item, we'll try to think of ways to substitute the item with something else we already have, borrow it from family or friends, or try to make it ourselves. And if we do require it, we'll try to buy it second hand instead. We've also stopped purchasing books, and instead opted to use our local library.
I've also learned how to darn socks--I have so many socks with holes, and now I don't have to keep buying more! I made black walnut ink for my dip pen, and I love writing with it! Next I'd love to learn how to churn butter and make baskets out of marsh reeds outside! These traditional skills bring me so much joy. How wonderful is it to be able to enjoy items that are handmade rather than buy them off the shelves! What are some traditional skills and hobbies you enjoy?
P.S. Marika started an instagram channel covering our natural home journey! Would love if you checked it out 😊 https://www.instagram.com/semideandmarika_adventures/
