Hey folks, Robert here with a new video on a handy extension for music producers called TimeCalc. Here's a quick rundown:

  • TimeCalc Extension: Found in the Bitwig Studio extension folder, TimeCalc helps calculate timeframes based on your project's BPM.
  • Functionality: With a project at 110 BPM, TimeCalc shows that one quarter note equals 545.45 milliseconds, or 1.83 Hz.
  • Creator and Availability: The extension is created by Ensonic and is available for free. You can find the link and installation instructions in the video description, courtesy of Odo's Bitwig tutorials.
  • Installation and Use: After downloading, add it as a new controller under settings. Once enabled, TimeCalc appears in the top right corner for easy access.
  • Practical Example: If your track is at 120 BPM and you want the kick drum decay to match one quarter note, TimeCalc provides the exact millisecond length to input since Bitwig doesn't currently allow direct unit conversions.
  • Bitwig Integration Wishlist: It would be more convenient if Bitwig allowed switching between milliseconds and musical notes (e.g., quarter note, eighth note) directly within its interface, even in Hertz.
  • Extension in Action: TimeCalc helps in setting precise timings for drum kicks and reverbs, matching BPM to the musical scale, and converting rhythms into pitches based on frequency (Hertz).
  • Personal Usage: I find this tool essential, especially when working with drum loops and transient control, avoiding the need for external calculators or websites.

That's the overview of TimeCalc, a simple yet effective extension for those into music production. Remember to check the links in the description for the download and other resources.
