Hidden Details: Assistance Persistence (Patreon)

I'm back from a very sunny holiday! Had a wonderful time. Bit of a drag to get used to the harsh culture of the Netherlands with her rain and schedules and waking up early, but I'll be fine. I had hoped there'd be some juicy leaks and news surrounding Smash while I was gone. I was gone for two full weeks, after all. But when I got back, there was this huge information drought going on. Nothing substantial had been released, giving me nothing new to make a comic about. So I decided to use one of the many "old" ideas I have lying around, once again involving Waluigi.

And guess what? The MINUTE I upload this comic to Reddit, the juiciest leak of all time happens! Amidst the chaos, the mods of /r/SmashBros even deleted my comic accidentally, so it's safe to say this comic was snowed-under because of the leak. Ah well. There's still some neat hidden details to reveal.

In the birds-eye view in the first panel, you can see a huge metal wheel in the backyard of the Everyone is Home-Home. This is the flaming Smash logo used in the reveal trailer of Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

You can still see the gasoline tanks they used to light it!

Also, for consistency's sake, I tried to make the area surrounding the house line up with earlier comics. Take this bush to the left of the front door, for example:

By the way, I feel like I've messed up by drawing this overhead shot, since I just quickly drew a house. In my head, the Everyone is Home-Home has all these crazy areas to accommodate all the different fighters, like a treehouse for Donkey Kong and Diddy, a landing plateau for Fox, Falco and Wolf's Arwings, et cetera. If I ever want to do that now, I have to explain why the house suddenly changes from this vanilla look. But hey, maybe that might make a cool comic as well!

Also, the house has Smash logo windows.

Minor detail, but you can see different kinds of fabric and the shoe lying on the table Waluigi is sitting at. These materials are used in his costume, as you can see in the second-to-last-panel.

Ugandan Knuckles is in the group of Assist Trophies. I think this meme is extremely overused and lost its funniness the minute big brands started tweeting "do u know de wey" and stuff, but I tried to use Ugandan Knuckle's infamy as a reason why Waluigi wanted to leave the Assist Trophy camp. So to clarify: I didn't include him because I love him. I included him because I hate him. (Although this video made me lol) 

Miyamoto's mask is based on Miyamoto's official Mii. I've had one Reddit user tell me this was an extremely racist way of drawing Miyamoto and... I kinda agree with them. Miyamoto's Mii is spot on, but it also looks like a very stereotypical racist depiction of an Asian person, including squinted eyes and buck teeth and everything. But you know, what are you gonna do if this is the Mii that the man himself made?

When I was drawing disguised Waluigi, I realized Waluigi should be about double Miyamoto's size. Luckily, I was able to fix that by putting Waluigi's knees in the brown shoes, instead of his feet.

And lastly, I continued the tradition of putting a little reference on Sakurai's shirt. This week, it's Geno's face. But it also looks like some symbol from feudal Japan, if you ask me.

And there you have it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get to work on next week's comic, which will feature a HUGE cast, all dressed up for Halloween. I'm killing myself and I love it.
