Bi-weekly blog #23: Project Catch-Up (Patreon)

Things are amazing. Comics are being made and viewed, Facebook pages are being liked, Twitter accounts are being followed, new ideas have been popping up and the weather is great as well. So if you were hoping for a blog post filled with drama and tragedy I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place.

The downside to these times of happy happy joy joy is that there also isn't much to share or write a blog post about. Except for a little announcement!

For years, I (Abel) have been neglecting my backlog of games. I still think it'd be weird to call myself a real game designer or comic artist who draws about games without having played some of the most essential games out there. Luckily, a few weeks ago, I finally stopped loafing around and I actively started playing games I missed when I was a kid. Or heck, even games I missed as an adult.

I decided to call this wonderful journey through the history of video games "Project Catch-up", purely because I like to give menial things fancy titles. Also, to motivate myself, I decided I'd try to draw a comic about each and every one of the games I catch-up to.

I'll be playing various games from different generations, consoles and genres, so you can expect a lot more varied comics in the coming months. The first group of games I'll play are mostly Nintendo games (although I have been playing some Uncharted as well) because I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy and because I can finally justify buying a Switch once I'm done with all the beautiful Nintendo games that I haven't played yet!

Actually, now that I think about it: Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the games on the Project Catch-up list, so I guess you could say the two Xenoblade comics we made were the first two "Project Catch-up Comics"! A few days ago, I finished the first Zelda and the first Metroid, so there are comics about those games coming up this week and next week (probably).

Anyway, I hope you won't mind some less Young Adult Red comics and some more varied comics in the future. I think it'd be pretty cool if Wooden Plank Studios gradually builds a portfolio with comics about tons of different subjects across the wonderful world of video games.
