Fungi Fridays, let's goooo!

stephanie

bellas acting is jaw dropping

Darryl Low

Happy Funghi Friday Nat. Looking forward to watching your reaction to this one, and then only 1 episode of this season left. "This guy's nice. I think I can trust this guy" Oh boy Nat 😄 Ha ha your outro was awesome Nat, summing it all up in 5 minutes😊 Such a great part of the story, and one of my favourite parts of the game too, sneaking your way through the resort during a blizzard. I look forward to watching the finale when you get a chance to do your reaction. Excited to see what you think of it. Thanks for today's video and all your awesome work this week Nat. Look forward to tonight's livestream 💛

Ryan

It’s a red letter day folks, Natalie is completely caught up on a show that is still airing, well for 2 more days anyway.

ButtyOh

James, the second in command is played by Troy Baker. Joel's voice and mocap actor from the games. And in the finale next week, Ashley Johnson aka Game Ellie plays a part

Meg B

Succession (the series in the add) is actually pretty dang good!

Jeff K

Correction: Succession is *amazing*. And Natalie, just to clarify: it's not really about financial people. It's basically a fictionalized version of the Murdoch family. Massive entertainment conglomerate, etc. Very thinly veiled spin on Rupert and his kids.

Jeff K

The first scene when David asks James "How much do we have left?" and then James's pause takes on a different meaning once you realize they're cannibals. James doesn't answer until David clarifies he's talking about the venison, elk, and rabbit. He knows how much they have left of... the other meat.

RonJon

To your point about how David probably did shit like this before, at least to some extent, probably no coincidence that he said his job before the outbreak was a middle school teacher

Mike Hell

Glad you liked the episode! This one still gets me. When Joel calls Ellie "Baby Girl" at the end, which is what he called Sarah... man, it's just amazing. The acting was spectacular. I can't wait for the finale on Sunday!

JD Sharpe

Amazing performances from Bella Ramsey and Scott Shepard

Anonymous

Bella's acting is mind-blowing. Can't wait for them to be rewarded with many awards and good job offers ofc

dieselbeast

i was facepalming every time you were saying davids a good guy or hoping he was lol

Baggie Mark

Were the tears happy tears at the end as she found Joel?

Meg B

Succession honestly gives me life while making me laugh, gasp, and cringe all the time. It has undeniably stellar writing on top of fantastic performances. Shame not many people seem to want to react to it.

This is my very first time joining Patreon or subscribing to anyone here. I've watched you on YouTube for over a year and I love your reactions. Even tho, you hadn't uploaded this episode of Last of Us on YT yet. I had heard from your other videos that you post here earlier and the full-length reaction. So as soon as I saw this episode was up with your reaction, I was like, done I'm all in!

Jeff K

It's such a good show. I didn't wanna fall for the hype, from friends, reviews, and even my wife. But then I was on a flight last May and they had the first two episodes available, so I watched them. I was on, like, a three day work trip. Even with factoring in work, etc, I binged the entire first season on my laptop by the time I got on the return flight. It is SO. GOOD.

Anonymous

What an episode indeed. Definitely my favorite one of the season. So many great scenes and badass moments, an actually scary bad guy AND a character defining moment for Ellie, it had everything. Funny thought I had when watching - I think Nat would enjoy or appreciate the show more on the second viewing. Then she'll know what to expect and not freak herself out in anticipation of jumpscares :D

Keith Jacobsen

Nat, you mentioned liking true crime. I hope you'd consider reacting to Mindhunter on Netflix. In short, it's a docu-drama about the FBI first starting to interview and analyze convicted serial killers back in the 70's in an effort at early detection, common traits, etc.

Simon Bauer

Holy shit James is Troy Baker.. he plays Joel in the last of us game.. thought I recognized his voice haha hes really trying to mask it a bit

Anonymous

lmao I lost it when you kept calling calling the thing "a hot log"

Ryan

Nat is always up for some Dark Night of the Soul stories, which makes me wonder why she is so down on Zombie stories. The best ones always have great Dark Night of the Soul moments.

John

Are you realizing the infected aren't the scary part of the show yet?

Anonymous

“What is it?” *sips* “…venison.” *big gulp* That was perfect

Anonymous

I'm sure that this has already been mentioned but David's right hand man is played by Troy Baker who was the original Joel from the games. I love the fact the producers are honouring the game by casting much of the original cast, Merle Dandridge reprising her role as Marlene, the original Tommy (Jeffery Pierce) playing Perry. Now Troy in this episode and Ashley Johnson (Ellie) appearing in the finale, though I won't mention her "new" character, don't want to spoil! It's a great tribute to the source material.

This was a decent show but imo too much was changed from the game. small things were fine like the way Tess died but some changes were huge like Bill and Franks relationship. In the game, Frank hated Bill so much that frank s last note to Bill was just Frank shitting on Bill and that dying was better than spending another day with Bill. I was looking forward to seeing how they will portray that in the show but they went in a whole different direction. I will admit their relationship was cute but it felt like a waste of an episode as well.

Anonymous

That's why I always refuse to play the game. From day one, when my friends suggested me Last of Us I replied "Nah, not enough gameplay, it's not worth it, I'm gonna watch the show when it airs"

jamie jones

“Everything happens for a reason, one less mouth to feed” and an extra meal. Win-win

Caomhan84

The show is good overall and I do think they have made some worthwhile changes. Some of them I do agree with and I think they have improved the storyline (context around cordyceps, Jackson, etc.. Others, not at all. The biggest issue for me is they are deleting a lot of the little things...Little character moments. Also, they have pretty much deleted the infected. We've only seen three clickers, for crying out loud. And I don't understand that, given the $12 million per episode budget. It's just kind of ridiculous. Also, some of the decisions they're making take away from the story...like Kathleen. She was utterly pointless. She was added for the show, and her addition took away from the Henry and Sam storyline. You could have deleted her scenes entirely from the show, and instead added in scenes from the game regarding Henry and Sam/Joel and Ellie, and nothing would have been lost from episodes 4 and 5. They would have been just as strong. So watching this show is simultaneously enjoyable for me and also frustrating. I really enjoyed Chernobyl, but when I watch Craig Mazin in the aftershow portions, half the time I'm like "Oh please, shut up. You're diluting this story too much."😂 That being said, I did enjoy this episode. It was good... I just wish, again, they had infected.

jamie jones

The bill and frank change is so inconsequential to the overall story it makes no sense to be that bothered by it. And the shows version was better. We never even met frank in the game. There are clearly lots of gameplay situations in a video game that would be nonsensical/impossible to adapt in a live action medium. I think this show has been adapted perfectly. Maybe could use some more infected but thats not really what the story is about.

alejandro valles

this episode really made me a fan of bella ramsey. i already loved them from their other projects, but this episode really exceeded my expectations. they're also genderfluid, so i love the representation, and they also have such an adorable relationship with pedro pascal off screen too

Dan Tydeman

Is it just me but for this show either the video or the site is just not in sync even if I like it up properly =/

Caomhan84

Yes, you can't faithfully adapt a game in which 90% of the time you're sneaking around. I think everyone understands that. But when you start deleting other parts of the story, It's no wonder that fans get irritated. Personally, I didn't care about the change they made to Bill and Frank. That was fine. But it just speaks to the larger point I have: with these changes, they are getting rid of character moments. Whereas personally, I didn't have any problem with Bill and Frank, my problem came with Kathleen and how her addition took away from the Henry and Sam storyline. They could have easily adapted that gameplay portion into the show. Delete Kathleen entirely from the show, and suddenly episode 4 can end in a perfect cliffhanger, leading into episode 5, and you get more time with Henry, Sam, Joel and Ellie and the impact is not lessened at all. The more time that passes since those episodes aired, the more annoyed I get that they made that change. It was not needed at all. I just hope now that they don't nerf the ending. I know they will be adding some things, but they don't really need a deviate much. All I want them to do is stick the landing.

TimTakDoh

I don't understand how anyone can complain(other than nitpick) this show if you are a fan of the game. It's literally the best adaptation ever created for a game(that stays as close as it does to the source material.) Clearly, some wanted a 100% adaptation. Thing is they can get that by watching the cut scenes of the game. The writers said that they would only change scenes/things if they could expand or make it better. Literally every episode has dialogue/scenes straight from the game and multiple ones at that. The actors have killed it as the main characters too. It's a flawless show imo but I guess I just enjoy good writing, acting and storytelling so *shrugs*

Thomas Richter

The prayer when they are eating the "Venison" meat "by whom we fed" "christ living bread..." Foreshadowing!

jamie jones

The sam and henry stuff was enhanced with the Kathleen backstory. Knowing the why everything was happening improved the story, it didn’t hinder it. And there was plenty of time with sam and henry, hell the first 15 min of episode 5 was the sam and henry show. Also, In the game henry was fighting beside you, in the show that wouldn't make sense as he wouldn't have needed joels help if he was combat capable. The Majority of fans aren’t irritated by these changes. The main fan complaint i see is not enough infected. Fair enough, but doesn’t bother me. A video game could not have been adapted more accurately.

Ariana Mitchell

the showrunners were joking that joel on 10% is better than them at their best and yes, he really is THAT bitch

Anonymous

which is the whole point of an ADAPTATION there’s gonna be change. also who wants to watch something they’ve alr watched/played.

Connor Ellis

Yeah, David is a Pedo. He was gonna rape her AND HE WAS A TEACHER BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE.

Erik Stevenson

I would love it so much if Nat reacted to Succession, but I also think even though it's not about "finance" the business aspect turns some people off, so I'm not convinced it'll win a poll.

2023-06-01 02:10:40 If anything, I think the show has been enhanced by the changes. Let's take the Kathleen, Henry & Sam portion that has been mentioned. In the game, you just mow down or sneak past groups of people, never giving them a second thought. In the show, we see that this group of people has been through hell. Are they 'bad guys'? Most definitely. But now there is so much more depth to these random people. They have human moments, feelings, doubts, they aren't just nameless numerous obstacles like in the game. You'd prefer we know nothing about these people except they're bad and want to get Henry and Sam? That's amateur-level writing. It's so much more compelling to figure out why this woman wants Henry. And when Henry confesses what he did to Joel? It just muddies the waters even further between right and wrong. This world is filled with the toughest decisions imaginable, and the show changes help highlight that. I think it's because of these elements that the show is superior to the game. The game focuses on Joel and Ellie, but the show focuses on humanity. Like the scene with the mycologist in episode 2? Chills. You don't get that stuff in the game, because everything is from Ellie and Joel's perspectives.

Nat, Golden Idols: I BEG of you to watch the following link. Dr. Courtney Tracy is a therapist who analyzes popular media through a psychological lens. Her analysis of this episode (S1E8) is the best I've ever seen her do. Pray take the 36 1/2 minutes to watch her reaction. It's abso-fucking-lutely fascinating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yaLHolTCn4

TLOU has literally never been about the infected. And The point of Kathleen's character is revenge. She lost everything, including her life, because she couldn't let go of her hatred for Henry.

Anonymous

Also, to OP, barely anything was changed that actually effected the plot. They literally have scenes in this that are straight from the game.

kikoyito

IMO, some of the changes to winter led to a diminished impact. I would have liked Joel's scenes in episode 8 to be completely removed, and the first time you see Joel again to be in ep 9 after meeting David. There was so much tension in the game when you start playing as Ellie and you literally think Joel's dead and you're on your own. Additionally, I like how the game had Joel come into the burning building pulling Ellie off of David in her rampage. It felt more emotionally cathartic that he was the one that brought her back to reality, rather than the moment ending and them reuniting outside. Still excellent episode, but small things like that from the game I felt really enhanced the experience.

kikoyito

I agree, all of the changes have been amazing (especially ep 3) and its been an amazing adaptation. I disagree that its flawless, I like to nitpick because I think there are some aspects I think would have made it an even more emotional and polished adaptation, but its still amazing, and stands well on its own apart from the game.

Have you commented this before or copied it from YouTube , get over the small changes , it’s a great adaption

When Joel said "I got you baby girl", thats the first time he said that since Sarah died. He is truly all in now for the surrogate father / daughter role. And when the bad guy says "There is no fear in love" is in direct contrast to Bill and Frank when Bill said "I wasn't afraid before I met you"
