Happy Tuesday. It's Nattie vs The Clickers today. I think we know what's going to happen. I daren't watch but I just have to 😬🤗 Another amazing reaction today Nat. Thank you. The overbearing tension definitely gets to you in this world. I hope you went out with the doggos for a break afterwards 💛

@adrian_r31

Episode 3 is going to break your heart. In a good way

This will be fun!

Ben Wheeler

Any takers on how long it takes Nat to recognize Lyanna Mormont? Or did I miss it already?

Boomcity

Love watching Nat react to this. Also stoked people who didn't play the game get to experience this story. But I also can't wait for Nat to give the game a shot 😁

Mastervodo

Great guesses this episode Nat!

Danishprince

She called her "that actress" in the first episode so that could be the moment she recosnised her just without going into further details :)

The scariest part of this show and the game is that Cordyceps are real and they do infect ants turning them into zombies. So the base concept here based on reality is terrifying.

Amanda Ray

Yes, the set design is really cool! They did a really good job setting the scene! That’s something I really like about the game. How beautiful the world looks with nature taking over everywhere 😊

Victoria Tofoli

I think the "hivemind" is not connected to the individuals themselves but to the fungus on the ground and under, so the individuals have to be connected to this bigger fungus population to actually send the alert. So that time at the end Joel shot the infected that was laying on the ground on top of fungus, thats why they all came.

Summer

episode 3 is…😬

One thing I always found interesting about this episode is when Tess says "Someone's going to scan her and kill her" he said "Better them than us" not "Better her than us" Shows that he's not necessarily worrying about them dying as opposed to her, but about him being the one who has to kill her eventually.

Kevin Mowery

The green explosions in the first episode weren't the Feds bombing Austin; it was transformers blowing up. If the transformer blows up green, it means the copper is being vaporized, usually by a power surge. Blue explosions happen when there's a sustained arc exposed to the air, ionizing nitrogen. And red happens when the cooling oil catches fire.

Ryan

Nat looking like she is on the verge of cardiac arrest, is the best kind of content there is.

Summer

the green bombs were flares btw

I don't think you need to worry about jump-scares so much in this show. The game almost never uses them and the lead developer of the game is one of the showrunners. In the first couple of episodes I don't actually think there were any (unless you count the bomb when Tess was talking to Robert). I think the focus is more on tension building over cheap scares.

Anonymous

I'm pretty sure it was the transformer blowing. You can see it happen again after Joel shows back up and takes out nana.

Something I find particularly notable that you might be interested in too is that the EP and co-director/co-writer is Craig Mazin who did chernobyl, and it was really astonishing to me how much TLOU resembles chernobyl, visually. He was the perfect choice

John

Once nice thing about the Infected is they're not zombies. Once an Infected is dead, it stays dead. Yes, it's just humans that are infected. Even the real cordyceps in nature, each strain only infects one species. Now, there are multiple strains, but each one is only dangerous to one specifc species.

K.N.

You asked it during the episode, but I think the reason other infected didn't come when they fought them in the museum is because they were on an upper floor, and the tendrils that "connect" the infected to one another grow below the city. So if the tendrils aren't present to "feel" something happening, you're safe. Plus they showed the ones outside the museum were already dry/dead.

Anonymous

They were electrical explosions, from transformers and power boxes etc when the power grid is overloaded, they showed one going off right next to Sarah and Joel outside the Adler's house

Anonymous

Plus not every infected is connected to every other infected, there are likely some localized small colonies, a couple connected to eachother, lots not connected to anything, and then that one huge colony that were all together. Probably very rare to have ones that size, and the one who turned at the end was probably, unluckily for them, infected by a bite from someone that was a part of that colony so that happened to trigger them.

Anonymous

Oooh, I didn't know that. That bothered me this whole time because I felt like they added those green explosions just because they looked cool. I just couldn't think of a reason why explosions would light up green like that. Good to know.

Logan Kerlee

Enjoyed the episode. :) This is definitely a show that hits at the core instead of weak surface level blows.

Soloydiver

I worry about how you're going to handle episode 3. Bring the tissue box and do happy things beforehand.

Jeff K

It’s probably a good call for you to not play the game, let’s be real. You encounter the infected a LOT more in the game than they have in the show (so far, at least). I’m a relatively seasoned gamer and I think the game is even too intense for me (I’ve watched play throughs but never played it myself). If I can’t handle it there’s no way you’ll be able to, Nat. Haha.

Jeff K

It’s such a phenomenal episode of TV. One of the best I’ve ever seen. But yes… Kleenex is a must.

Mike Hell

I hope she still gives the game a shot. As much as I've loved the show, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson gave such amazing performances in the game that they just can't be beat. The best game story I've ever witnessed, hands down. Probably why it translates so well to a series. But I mean I'd understand if she didn't want to endure that, it's a brutal game, but still worth the emotional damage :)

Simon Bauer

Nat is about to get wrecked next one xD

Daniel McGuinness

Headshots aren’t always a solution to Clickers (the mushroom zombies), the fungi on their head is hard like coral and provides at least a little shielding! Also I don’t think the infected are communicating telepathically 24/7, I think it’s only possible if they’re connected by a patch of fungus in the earth, like the ones at the nest by the hotel I’m so glad you decided to jump on this show before it finished airing 😭 can’t wait to see your reaction to episode 3 and then discussing the last few week to week!

Walter Lopez

Hey Nat, Its okay. I've played the game several times. I can assure you, one hundred percent, if you play the game... You will not be able to get past the prologue.

Tesh

So the connected thing, you asked why they didn't come running when they killed the clickers (what the blind ones are called) i believe its not that they are not all connected all the time, just when they lay down and connect to the fungal network, so when Joel killed the host in that last building, the fungus inside is still alive and connected with the fungal networked which attracted the hoard, the hoard were all lying down connected to the network basically waiting for a signal. its such a cool unique take on the zombie hoard idea, im personally loving the cool concepts in this show and I hope you're still enjoying the series Nat even if its scary, so far it doesnt seem to be jumpscare heavy so i hope it stays that way tbh. but also if you need to only watch 1 at a time or even if you have to stop I, and im sure many others, would totally understand. if you keep watching though i think you will enjoy the story so far, (im unspoiled on the game and have only watched the show so idk for sure how things will go, so dont take my word as gospel for this) anyway great reaction as always Nat, hope you were able to calm down a bit after and chill for a while. look forward to the movie this week!

Daniel Vezina

Mold is a fungi often found in flour, just saying.

Eefa

Nat I am 19 and work a minimum wage job but I would pay good money to watch you play the game, I’ve been obsessed with it ever since it came out. It’s also not too difficult for first time players, I played exclusively platformers before my first playthrough! And it’d be worth it, just for the performances by the original cast. They beat the show by a great deal imo (they are full mocap performances- not just voice actors!) but that doesn’t matter, it’d still be a different experience and no matter which you’d prefer, worth it to experience the OG material as well as this awesome show.

Anonymous

Did anyone else have trouble syncing this one?

TGrimace

Natalie, you work yourself up and scare yourself WAY more than the show ever has something scary. We are 2 episodes in and (except for that last scene) we've haven't seen that many infected. The show (and game) aren't about the infected. It's about the relationships between the characters, and how they survive in a world that has infected.

Martin

I just hope Nat’s tension in watching these types of shows doesn’t hinder her enjoyment of them. TLOU2 is remarkable television, but having to watch the show with your hands in front of your eyes can’t be fun.

John

Infected aren't the real danger. They're predictable. They're just a hazard. The real danger is people.

nataliegold

I appreciate the support! not sure if I can handle the game as I'm a big baby but will definitely post about it if I try!

nataliegold

I literally had nightmares the next two nights after watching this...idk man I just get soooo disturbed by zombie apocalypse stories

John Cedar

Zombie apocalypse stories sure are scary but they're entirely rooted in fiction, even when they try to connect it to science like in this show. So many things would get in the way of zombies actually becoming real. Even just the first law of thermodynamics completely ruins every zombie show. Although this show is making a point of showing the actual collapse during the outbreak more than most zombie properties, which is particularly disturbing given the state of the world right now.

Thomas Richter

But societal collapse is a very real danger. For only 6% of the human race history we had societies and It barely works as it is. Not only war, hunger or climate change can make it happen, but also diseases. Humans will live on, society may not.

John Couteau

*Joel looks inside truck* nat flipping shit lmaoo

Anonymous

The show is not nearly as violent or has as much gore as the game. And the game is MUCH more scary than the show. I don’t think she’d make it through the first half. 😭

jamie jones

The game isn't scary. There are scary games. The last of us isnt one of em

Richard Maurer

Yes, so the cordyceps species that infects humans in this show wouldn't infect other ape species, even our closest relative, chimpanzees, let alone other Mammals.

Connor Ellis

The clickers didn't "call for backup" cause there was no fungal network for them to touch and connect with the rest, as they were on an upper floor of a building filled with dead fungi. Also not all the Infected are clickers (hearing not seeing). Only the ones with the head like that.

Thoko

Natalie if you do play the game, please wait until after you've watched the show so that you don't spoil yourself. I really only enjoy reactions when its genuinely the first time watching

Thoko

Not really. I only have trouble syncing when the person reacting doesn't use earphones/headphones. When I can hear their audio it becomes a problem if I am out of sync by even a fraction of a second. But with Nat I only need to get it reasonably close. I wait until she says that the HBO title is playing then I rewind her uncut video 10 seconds to give me a second chance to play the episode at the right time. Simple
