I skipped this originally because I don't have great memories of it but it's fun to see Natalie roll her eyes and barely contain her distain (at least at the 27 minute mark). I had a co-worker declare this was the best Mel Brooks movie. Which is insane, but I also recognize it's an age thing (I'm older than her.) But the only acceptable answer for me is Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein.

May the Schwartz be with you Nat. The leaves.... The pop.... Classic Nat intro 🤗

I'm watching this now since I just woke up from a long power nap.

I love that you watched Spaceballs! This movie is hilarious!! Love this one so much. :D xD

Brian Jones

Young Frankenstein is still my number one, but Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part 1, and The Producers are all close seconds. I'd take any of those over SpaceBalls. And I do still like it, as well as Robinhood Men in Tights, but neither of those were as good as the earlier stuff.

I finished the movie. Which I haven't done since the 80s. I have to admit the characters watching their own movie in the middle of it is pretty damn funny. But it was 37 minutes for something clever. Natalie doesn't get the Lawrence of Arabia music motifs, but that's expected. You'd have to know the movie. I love Mel Brooks. For the reasons I said. And I think the "Springtime for Hitler" sequence from The Producers is the funniest thing committed to film. (The rest of the movie is uneven for me, which is why I don't list it as my fav.) And... this movie kinda sucks. The hit to miss comedy ratio is definitely in the miss for me. It must be a generational thing. But I respect people's rights to love what they love. So.... Spaceballs. Enjoy.

I totally agree. This is a repeat because of an accidentally deleted file, but clearly this was suggested because of the Star Wars connection. But yeah... not his best work. (And it's totally fine if one disagrees. I hate when someone tries to argue someone else out of something they love.)

hahahaha, wow! Yup, the cheese is real. This parody really wasn't as good as I remembered. Childhood movies always fall short a bit late in life. Still fun to watch, just no where near as funny as it was years ago.

Danishprince

I will never understand the love this movie gets.. I have always found it incredible unfunny despite usually liking parodies :D The best Star Wars "parody" is Fanboys - 4 friends and lifelong Star Wars fans decides to travel across the US in 1999 to steal a copy of The Phantom Menace before the release.

Andrew Polinski

It was a different time when this came out, I loved it as a kid but today I can't get through 20 minutes. I agree Fanboys is a great film, I wouldn't say it's a parody though, more like a homage to Star Wars.

Agree, I remember loving this as a kid but as a grown up, I cannot gather the strenght to finish it. Other Mel Brooks comedies, like Airplane! or Naked Gun are still really funny but this one in particular... has aged poorly.

Danishprince

Yeah I agree on fanboys which is why I used the quatation marks as it's not really a parody - It was just the best word I could come up with at the time :D

I've seen this one so many times that i won't even need to pull out a copy to watch it along with Nat ... i know all of the lines :D

Even his worst movies (like "Life Stinks") had some good bits in it. Like the bit where the guy was trying to get the piece of corn off his face. I also thought the double-cross in that movie was kinda clever (though probably wouldn't hold up in court.)

Troy B.

I own this movie in a Blu-Ray collection of all of Mel Brooks' movies, but I've never watched the Blu-Ray, because my gut says it probably doesn't hold up, and I'm better off just basking in the vague happy memories from watching it as a kid. (Though I did see it as a teen and young adult, which is the primary source of my gut saying it doesn't hold up.) Also, if you haven't seen Young Frankenstein, Natalie, I highly recommend it. I'd say it's a bit more timeless, though also more corny. (But a good corny. I think.)

Opti_Frog

The best thing i can say about Spaceballs is that it's at least better than Men in Tights, but that is the lowest of bars.

Joe Blankenship

Tempted to jump into this, but Spaceballs is so lame. There's like 4 or 5 good scenes and the rest, who cares.

Rosanne Stewart

I agree. I love Rick Moranis but I never found Spaceballs to be funny in the least.

Darryl Low

Nat has seen Young Frankenstein many times she says, but I'd still love to see her reaction to it, along with Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, so that she could spot all the references😄

Troy B.

The best bit is the "Spaceballs: The Movie" portion.
