Darryl Low

Hey Nat. Hope you had a great weekend. Not seen this movie for a good few years, so it's going to be fun to go back and see what it's like 20 years on

Ian

Happy Monday nat hope you had a lovely weekend , I never have the time for movies in a Monday as I go out but I shall make a start btw how is this movie 20 yrs old already 🤯🤯🤯 time is short so let's get too it 👍💛

Anonymous

Why did we stop X-Men right before we got to the best one? 😭 I was so pumped for Monday

devin flynn

Logan is the last piece to the xman puzzle for now!

Randee Carreno

Happy Monday, Natalie! 😊 I'm downloading this right now so that I can watch it later tonight. I'm so excited that you're reacting to this trilogy. This first is my favorite of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films. And you definitely also need to watch the two Andrew Garfield "The Amazing Spider-Man" movies as well before seeing "Spider-Man: No Way Home". I did see that that one is scheduled for a February 28th digital release. Really excited to watch this reaction this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Adam Grunther

When is the Logan reaction coming? I’m dying to see your reaction to it.

Brian Jones

We had digital cameras in 2002 Nat.... :)

This was my first big hit super hero movie on the cinemas, it's still engraved in my brain the day I went to see it, the cinema... everything. I loved Spider-Man from the comics and even though this Spider-Man is slighthly different (in the comics he never shot organic webs from his wrists, and Tobey and Kirsten may be a bit too grown up in this movie to portray two highschool students) but overall it's still a classic. The suit still holds up to this day for me (Green Goblin's not so much)

Anonymous

Weird! I randomly watched this last night guess ill need to rewatch with you Nat for the Amazing commentary 😆

Jon Hoover

I'm off of work today, because we are snowed in, so I jumped immediately when I got this notification. I really hope she likes it. It really set the standard for the MCU.

Jon Hoover

There were many Spiderman cartoons before this one, the 90s version being the most iconic. There was also a very campy live action TV show in the 80s.

Chris H

What's the rest of the week looking like? Don't forget about Hawkeye!

Anonymous

I haven't watched this movie since it was in theaters and I hated it... So lets see if 20 years has changed my mind about it.

Tay Schumaker

Glad you're doing these. I personally think these movies held up extremely poorly and are pretty bad, but necessary watches.

Ilsuk Yang

Spider-Man 2 is amazing and one of the best superhero movies in my opinion! I have it tied with Into the Spiderverse as my favorite Spider-Man movie. I know a lot of people really like No Way Home as their favorite Spider-Man movie, but it's definitely not mine. Very good, but flawed, movie. Then again, this is just my opinion. I definitely enjoy the Amazing Spider-Man movies as well, although, in a different way from the MCU Spider-Man trilogy and the Raimi trilogy. Each of these different Spider-Man series has their own distinct feel to them and I enjoy each style. I know some people will also encourage you to watch Venom 1 and 2, but they're really not necessary to watch before No Way Home, although, it would be nice if you got to them eventually. I enjoyed Venom, but was not a fan of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Anyways, I enjoyed your reaction as always, Nat!

Kevin

Technically she could skip the trainwreck that was Spiderman 3...

Anonymous

Happy Monday Nat 🤪 Love these

Niklas

I'm so happy to see you getting into these. I love the Spider-Man films and this one might just be my favorite. :)

Jon Hoover

Jameson doesn't get enough credit for protecting Peter when the Goblin came looking for him. He's not a bad guy. He just hates Spiderman.

Kalle-Tapani Isomaa

I am pretty sure she will finish them just be patient. It is good that she started Raimi Spider-Man movies because of you know what.

Kalle-Tapani Isomaa

There is still Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix and New Mutants. For last 2 i don't care that much thou.

Anonymous

A bunch have said it already but you should also definitely watch the Amazing Spider-Man films before you watch No Way Home. I would also personally recommend watching the Venom films but those aren’t quite as necessary.

ButtyOh

Ive always loved that The wrestler, Bonesaw McGraw is played by a real wrestler called "Macho Man" Randy Savage And that the wrestling announcer is played by Bruce Campbell aka Ash from the evil dead

Kevin Bartelen

There aren't any post-credit scenes for these Spider-Man movies so no worries

Kalle-Tapani Isomaa

What a nice surprise hat you decided to watch these. Im guessing you have seen No Way Home trailer so it makes sense to revisit these. You better also revisit The Amazing Spider-Man movies directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield. Spider-Man 2 will be best of this trilogy. One of the best superhero movies ever made. Have a wonderful week Natalie.

Thomas Malley

That was so much fun to rewatch.

Darryl Low

When you said you didn't have tissues at the beginning Nat, I knew we were in trouble 😢 I loved your intro and I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this movie. You called certain moments cheesy Nat, but I enjoy the fact that we know what we are watching is fantastic and ridiculous, but the actors are playing it completely straight. Most of the recent comic book movies, which I still enjoy, play with a more comedic edge, which can often distract from the drama. I didn't know the Daily Bugle was in the Flat Iron Building 😄 Before this movie came out here in the UK, it was targeted at kids with loads of toys and merchandise, but when it was released it was deemed too violent and they gave it a 12 cert, meaning nobody under 12 could see it. Cue lots of angry parents complaining about the fact, and they re-launched the movie as a 12A, meaning kids could get in as long as they were accompanied. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane today Nat. Was a lot of fun 💛

Jomero

Good ol' Joe Manganiello as Flash Thompson.

Philippe Dessaints

You have got to watch the other 2 movies ! Rami trilogie is awesome

Tiago Borges

Now that you watched this, you can watch the definitive edition called "Superhero Movie"

Anonymous

Tobey is my SpiderMan too!

Anonymous

i can't hear willem dafoe without thinking of marshall in himym saying his name sounds like a parrot talking to a frog

NotlobParrot

Had to pause the reaction to come here and say how much I loved the "2002 Flashback" intro you did. 😂 "Nat Loves the 00's"

Essero Eson

One thing I noticed this viewing that I didn't pick up on before is that J Jonah is a really good guy deep down. At the very least he is highly ethical. When the Green Goblin had him, he instantly covered for Peter at his own peril. A guy who didn't even work for him and he had Peter's back just like that. Made me like him a lot more because he's very complex for an antagonist. He thinks he's right and is trying to do right by people as he sees the world. He really thinks Spider-Man is a bad guy, but he's watching out for the public. I just loved that this time around because it gives me a whole different angle on that character.

Persnickity

Little fun fact for everyone. The scene were Peter catches the tray full of things was done practically and Toby had to actually do it IRL. Now when I re-watch the scene I always give Toby extra chops.

Niklas

Finished the reaction - great stuff, nice to see you getting so into it. Looking forward to seeing the other Raimi films and the TASM films, before diving into No Way Home eventually.

Keith Jacobsen

"Sorry Mary Jane, another side-effect of that spider-bite is that my pee-pee don't work."

Tay Schumaker

Movie is even cheesier than I remembered

Joe Blankenship

These are going to be fun. I doubt you'll remember too much if you haven't seen it since it was released. Weren't you like 7 or 8 years old anyway?

Calo Grsf

Thank you Natalie! I was impatient for this beginning of adventure 😄 and to say that it's already been 20 years... It's scary how time flies hahaha I love this movie (the whole trilogy, even the 3 hahaha), I think there's an endearing side to it with the "cheesy" side in the dialogues, the acting, the shots, etc. Willem Dafoe is just epic in his role, we can see he loved doing the Green Goblin, many people don't like his costume but I think it's perfect, there's this "cheesy" side that gives it "charm" hahaha Personally I would say that Tobey is maybe not the best incarnation, for me it's Andrew, even if Tobey was my first spider-man haha (but it's like a draw in my heart haha), on the other hand the best villains are for me the Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus from Raimi's films, Dafoe and Molina are and will be unbeatable 😄 As usual you were great, radiated good humor and communicative laughter, and just for that I am more than impatient for the next film 😄 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Ben Wheeler

Bruce Campbell cameos in each of the Sam Raimi movies, and JJJ's goofy assistant was Raimi's brother, Ivan.

Joe Blankenship

Did anybody else catch Octavia Spencer at the wrestling check-in table? Never noticed her before. This was way back before she became a name.

Leaf on the Wind

Here's how the different actors break down: Toby McGuire is the best Peter Parker Andrew Garfield is the best Spiderman Tom Holland is the best mix of both Peter and Spiderman, but is not the best at either

TrackHoodie

We've been over this Natalie. How can you not have tissues? LMAO

Erik Stevenson

Very fun nostalgia trip, it's been quite a while since I've seen this one myself. The CGI is a bit dated for sure but it's pretty good nonetheless and Dafoe puts in an incredible performance here that set the bar for comic book movie villains until Heath Ledger's Joker turn later in the decade.

Logan Kerlee

I SUPER enjoyed that trip down memory lane! I remember watching this in theaters back when this came out. It was SUCH AN AWESOME MOVIE to see in theaters as a young teenager. I have watched ALL of the Spider-Man movies in theaters, except for the third. I remember missing that and not being upset about it after it was released. I'm pretty sure that one was just awful. xD Anyway though!! This movie was such a treat. Thank you for watching it. :)

Logan Kerlee

No kidding? That's mighty impressive, even if they messed with film speed and all that! Way cool, great contribution. :D

Anonymous

i believe far from home is available to buy digitally on feb 20th but wont be available to rent for awhile

Logan Kerlee

Ah! Good point. Way to go at making me feel old. xD I was 13 when this came out. I remember seeing it in theaters back then. hahahaha, those were the days! <3

Logan Kerlee

Oh I remembered her! hahaha, I remember pointing that scene out to people whenever they brought her up in conversation. :D I love having memories like those. :)

Matthew Periolat

This and the Holland Spider-Man movies are the only ones I’ve seen, so doing the rest of the Maguire and adding Garfield should be kinda fun! No Way Home will be available for streaming February 28th, so you got time. No rush whatsoever. As for this… I dunno, I remember back 2002 feeling this was a letdown after X-Men. It’s entertaining, sure, but just left me feeling kind of cold. Couldn’t warm to Tobey’s take and I just cannot unsee Goblin as the evil Green Power Ranger. The one saving grace then was my monster crush on Kirsten Dunst and she’s still the highlight of the flick for me. Oh and it also gave us Weird Al’s Ode to a Superhero, so there’s that too. To paraphrase, be glad to give this another try again when the sequel comes ‘round. Still Golden.

Richard Ryan

So Nat, did you know that there's a valid theory out there that Maguire's Parker is Peter B. Parker from Spiderverse? Finish Maguire's movies and then watch Peter B Parker's intro monologue again, if you don't believe me.

Gabriel Lozano, WLC

About your monologue before the movie started: Life wasn't "simpler" back in 2002 than it is now; it was just different. :)

Thomas Yanez

While it is true that there aren't any mid- or post-credit scenes, there is a fun little Easter Egg in the credits - the last song played during the credit scroll is the theme from the 60's Spider-Man cartoon.

Robert Reichle

So much Sam Raimi style directing in that. Stuff he did in the Evil Dead movies but with a big budget available. Great fun.

Brandon Zepf

should Nat watch all the old spiderverses (Maguire AND Garfield) prior to No Way Home?

Robert Reichle

Some of the stylization came from trying to recreate some of the comic book style. The Goblin's hand coming up from under the rubble, for example, is how the scene would have been shown in telling a story with sequential art in comics. Lots of the other stylized moments seem to be for that reason too. Slight cheese in live action, but necessary in sequential art.

Matthew Shaver

This first one had an audio easter egg of the animated series theme. I remember watching this in the theatre when it first came out and wondered if they would include it and was delighted when they did.

XadeChronos

Other people might have said this already but please watch the extended editions of 2 and 3!

Jomero

A lot of the style was also just classic Raimi. He's all about quick-cuts, quick zoom-ins, and the like. It's just one of his signatures.

Ben Gilshenan

nat its pronounced ray-me not rami

Phillip D Piris

Looking forward to watching Man of Steel and maybe a comparison between the two Justice League movies

Anonymous

Wow I forgot how good this film was. I was 11 when it came out, watched it a few times after but saw 2 and 3 more often.

Thomas Richter

I would love to see you react to the Pitch Meeting for these movies on Youtube.

Thomas Richter

The stylized film making in this movie is not just a early 2000 thing. Is a Sam Raimi thing, the director of this movie is a horror movie director from the 80's. Which comes into play a lot in Spider-man 2. Specially the Hospital scene. Also, you should watch his early work The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. Also, Sam Raimi aways have the same car in his movies (uncle Ben's car) and a cameo or part for his friend Bruce Campbell (the wrestling announcer).

Mike LL

The highlight of this movie is the performances. Everyone did such a good job, but JK Simmons really steals the picture. Just read up that Netflix will have No Way Home before it goes to Disney+. Yes all the Maguire and Garfield films are essential watches before you see No Way Home.

Anonymous

the way you say Raimi ist just pure gold

Darryl Low

Xena : Warrior Princess Lucy Lawless plays the punk girl in the vox pops scene 😊

RebRox65

If you’re planning on watching the new Spider-Man movie NO WAY HOME make sure you complete all the legacy Spider-Man movies first, that’s all I’m saying

MightyHobo

I watched this one on Canadian Netflix. Thank you VPN

As a Scotsman, I have absolutely no idea what Peacock is. I do, however own this film on almost every possible format (along with the LOTR films). Settling in to watch this re-watch (1st film i have a vivid memory of watching in the cinema!) and, very much, looking forward to it!
