Welcome to the party pals! Super excited to be watching this classic with you Nat. Still holding a grudge against us after a year 😂 ha ha I think we all knew you were itching to watch this movie. Die Hard's screenplay was initially based on a novel that was the sequel to the 1968 film titled The Detective starring Frank Sinatra. The studio had to offer the role to Sinatra as a contractual obligation. He saw sense and turned it down. They then beefed up the action and looked for a new star. Love the score by Michael Kamen, who also scored Lethal Weapon, and at the end when Al pulls his gun out, they used a cue from Aliens! Thanks for an awesome festive Friday Feature, and sorry we made you wait a year to watch it Nat, and thanks for all your amazing work this week. Have a great weekend, and if this is your idea of Christmas Nat, we definitely have to be here for New Years 💛

Yippee Ki Yay!

ButtyOh

Great end to the day after being out all afternoon seeing the new spiderman film No spoilers obviously, but gotta be one of my favourite films of 2021. And probably my second favourite spidey film

Obie Brown

A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!

Joe Blankenship

I thought it would be It's a Wonderful Life, but I can watch Die Hard anytime. Actually watched it a few days ago. Don't mind watching again. You're alright, Argyle.

Randee Carreno

Happy Feature Friday, Natalie! 😊 EXCELLENT Christmas movie choice for today. Watching this one right away. Loved the intro. This is one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies. Have a great day today! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Ian

Happy Friday nat now I have a machine gun HO HO HO now Christmas has started 😃 so excited for you reaction to this movie I could burst 😃 this is going to be epic cheers nat hope you're enjoying your vacation or are about too whichever it is stay safe out there and as always stay golden 💛

Danishprince

Die Hard is the perfect christmas movie! <3

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

"Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, it's a god damn Bruce Willis movie!" 😆 I'm here for it though 🎄🕎

Anonymous

So a wasted slot when we could've had DoFP huh........neat......

Robert C

Die Hard is a fun movie to watch in the Christmas season because it is set at Christmas. But it is not a Christmas movie. None of the story beats or themes have much to do with Christmas. I'll die on this hill.

Anonymous

A good Christmas movie needs hope, a redeemable character, family, and an uplifting ending….Die Hard checks all the boxes 😆

BJ Stephens

Couldn't agree more, I mean if you wanna watch it for Christmas, that's great, but it's basically the opposite of a Christmas movie, that just happens to be set on Christmas, and yeah I've seen the checklist people use to justify it, and it's all coincidental or superficial with no real merit. IMO this movie was labeled a "Christmas Movie" by people, mostly guys who either didn't want to watch actual Christmas movies, or couldn't admit they liked the more emotional. heartfelt theme of actual true Christmas movies. But in the end, people are entitled to their opinions...no matter how wrong they may be ;) Anyway Merry Christmas everyone.

ButtyOh

All the die hard films are on Disney+. Is that new

Michael Cruse

Ooh, this is gonna be hella fun. *grabs drink* *grabs snack*

Jomero

Die Hard changed the face of all action movies after it. You know a movie made a big impact when future movies use it as a way to describe themselves. "Die Hard on a bus." "Die Hard on a plane." etc. It also changed Bruce Willis' career forever. He was a relative unknown before it, and moreso known for comedy. He was so unknown, he was not the studios' first (or 10th) pick for the role and they wanted to actually keep his face off of the movie posters. As for the scar on his arm, it's real. It's from a surgery from when he was a teenager.

DarkJokester

I love watching poeple react to Die Hard, only if it's a first time reaction. I was really looking forward to continue the journey of the X-men movies. :D

MertzRocks

Awwwww, my dang blu-ray disc froze at about 1:41:?? so I didn't finish with you. Up to this point I kept saying, "Wait... How many times have you seen this? You forgot that? Your favorite Christmas movie and you forgot that?" Sorry that I was teasing you behind your back, Natalie. I do love your reactions, even when it's something you've seen. In a few days I'll have a copy of Chernobyl to watch with you. Hope it wasn't too rough on you. Stay Golden!

Sean

I like to call Die Hard a Christmas movie as a joke. Unlike Gremlins, which has a sincere message about Christmas safety, Die Hard only has a veneer of Christmas.

Calo Grsf

Thanks for this great and funny moment Nat! Always a pleasure to see you so happy and laughing like that in front of a film 😄 Never hesitate to do more stuff like that, even if it's not a first time reaction 😃 I can't wait for the next content! 💛 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden!

Darryl Low

They are part of Disney + Star, which has all the more adult-orientated content, and since Disney took over Fox, they are putting a lot of their movies on there now.

Anonymous

Fun Fact: They dropped Alan Rickman on 2 when he did the plunge to get a genuine reaction from him.

Robert Reichle

Not a Christmas movie, but fun and entertaining. Glad you did it.

Danishprince

I think this might just be one of my favourite reactions you've done! Seeing you so happy and joyful was just a perfect christmas moment :D

Danishprince

If it hadn't been Die Hard it had been another christmas movie so not wasted in any way lol

NotlobParrot

OMG I will be calling Hart Bochner's character "Harry Ellis" from now on. 😂❤️️ New Headcanon

Brian Jones

Between this, Predator, and The Hunt for Red October (Red October technically being 1990, and an absolute must for a future reaction if you haven't seen it), John McTiernan was easily one of the best directors of the 80's. As to your question about the building, the exterior shots of "Nakatomi Tower" were all shot on location at Fox Plaza in LA. The music is a mix of original music from Michael Kamen, variations of Beethoven's 9th, and some various Christmas tunes mixed in here and there. Not to mention Hanz humming the Beethoven piece, and Bruce Willis whistling Jingle Bells on his way down the hall.

NotlobParrot

I was JUST thinking yesterday about the crazy McTiernan Hat Trick of Predator, Die Hard, and Red October. Holy hell that's an insane run of movies to make IN A ROW.

It Hurt A Lot

I'll fight you. I disagree with everyone! It's a Western! Why? Because he references Roy Rogers and the most famous line is Yippee Kay Yay and it has gunfights between good guys and bad guys. See I can stretch it to mean that too. It's an action movie with Christmas references. Christmas movies aren't released in July folks. Nonetheless I love it and if it reminds you of Christmas and you want to watch it in December go for it.

Danishprince

So since Die Hard was released in December here in Denmark it's a christmas movie, got ya

Jason Dolan

You should watch THE MOVIES THAT MADE US episode on Netflix with us here so we can experience you learning that mad true story behind hte making of this classic

David Sumner

Die Hard 2: Die Harder is also a Christmas movie and that one has snow!

David Sumner

I really want to see her reaction to Long Kiss Goodnight, another great Christmas action movie!

Ben Wheeler

You already saw one of the FBI agents as one of the Fratelli brothers in Goonies

John

"Yes, this is a Christmas movie. Fight me." This is why we love you.

Garrick Smalley

Re the gun thing yes as long as you told them and had paperwork.

This_Jedi_crafts

Glad I finally watched this film (or watched Nat react to it) - so much fun. And now I have more info as all the YouTubers are saying that the final episode of a certain Marvel series (on Disney +) will be paying tribute to Die Hard. So NOW I'll be fully equipped to enjoy any nods or homage to Die Hard! Thanks for a great reaction!

Anonymous

The thing I like about the whole "Is it or is it not a Christmas movie" debate is that Die Hard sits smack dab on the line between, that it caters to both views equally. What I find uninteresting about this time of year is that EVERYONE watches the exact same Christmas movies over and over again and on every channel and platform. For just once - it would be nice to see somebody - ANYBODY - watch some of the lesser recognizable Christmas movies like Krampus, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas or Batman Returns. Maybe Nat, if you're reading this far, keep titles like these in the back of your mind for next year...be that one reactioner that breaks the mold set by every other reaction channel about which Christmas movies to watch ;) As always, loved your reaction regardless; just sayin :D

The Golgothan

Bruce Willis himself said Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie. He's wrong of course but what else is new

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

It's an LA Christmas movie. I still crack up when they mention McClain's cop buddy retired to POMONA, like, by choice?? Also, I love that bit of trivia, that Alan Rickman's reaction at falling was genuine because they told him "On three: one, two," and then they dropped him 🤣 This was a really fun reaction and the fund raiser link which must be coming with the YT edit is a really cool thing, much appreciated Nat, I actually do worry about some of these people out here, but especially the homeless people this last week when the temps dropped, us Californians aren't used to it and I know some people had some rough nights on the streets. A big thanks for bringing us some Holiday cheer and for helping some of the forgotten folks out there 💛

Garrick Smalley

For me what makes this a Christmas movie is that music when the vault opens.

Ortizmo2000

Normally, I watch this around Xmas time anyway. Have done so since '88 when I was a movie theater asst manager. Was an absolute pleasure to watch it with your video this time around. Will save this for next year. Too much fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Holidays! Yippie Kai Yai Mutherfukah!

khaliqtessi

Great watching this with you, Nat! Merry Christmas.

Kevin Bartelen

I actually saw a video about "Is this a Christmas movie?" last year. One of the metrix used was number of Christmas references and it scored higher than several other "classic" Christmas movies. I clearly don't remember all the details of that video, but it scored really high in every category used. Basically it's the most Christmassy of Christmas movies. Also, yeah, it's one of the best written movies I've seen. Up there with Scott Pilgrim VS The World. Also, also, you should watch #3 next year... I guess you can watch #2 with us first if you want, but for me it's the least original and thus the least interesting of the whole series.

Michael G. Munz

It's funny, I've seen this movie more times than I can count, but I never really noticed the whole sweater trend before. :D

Michael G. Munz

Die Hard is a Harry Potter movie. Bruce Willis is sneaking around in a tower trying to avoid being caught by Alan Rickman.

Marty McGee

Oh yeah! After Chernobyl, this one is gonna be fun!!

Logan Kerlee

Oh my gosh!! This is my FAVORITE Christmas movie! Every year for the past 13 or 14 years I've watched this. It ranks up there among my all time faves. :D Thank you so much everybody for voting for this one! Ya'll picked the right movie. :) <3

Keith Jacobsen

Very fun reaction Nat! Fun Fact: Allegedly, the Beretta 92F that John carries is the same one that Riggs carries in Lethal Weapon, same prop. I wonder if you'll do Terminator 1 and 2 at some point...?

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Also, "Ode To Joy", by Ludwig my boy, aka Beethoven; can apparently be used as the musical score to damn near anything, from "Die Hard" to "A Clockwork Orange". And the man wrote it after losing his hearing. Not for the channel but a movie I highly recommend if you ever get the chance is "Immortal Beloved", a biopic with Gary Oldman as Ludwig Van...

Anonymous

Die hard is a fun movie. I'll never forget make fists with your toes. Does it work, I don't know because I'm not a flyer.

Anonymous

There are two kinds of people in the world. Those that think Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and those who are wrong.

Anonymous

Yes this is my favorite Christmas movie!!

Joel Palenychka

My favorite little bits of trivia for this film is the Alan Rickman drop. One of the reasons his look of surprise is so genuine is that the stunt crew told him they'd drop him on three, and they dropped him on two instead. The surprise is real. :-)

James M

This movie saved 20th Century Fox.

Al Baughman

It is gonna be a Merry Christmas since we get your Die Hard reaction!! Thank you! I like how you pointed out all the little things in the writing that make this such a great movie. One of my top 3 movies all-time!

Joe Blankenship

I was wondering if she'd ever catch that the coke-sniffing douchebag was called Ellis, not Harry.

Jay Robert

Omg when Powell crashed his car and you said "His pastries!!" I literalolled!

Darryl Low

His official full name is Harry Ellis though, so Nat must have seen it somewhere, maybe in the subtitles. Does seem strange that everyone in the movie calls him by his surname 🤔

Keith Jacobsen

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but one of the ways John suspects "Bill Clay" is not who he says he is that he holds the cigarette he offers him between his thumb and index finger, just like most Europeans do (apparently) whereas most Americans hold them between the index and middle finger, just like John. PLUS there was supposed to be another clue about all the robbers having the same wristwatch, but it was cut.

Danishprince

Also the fact that he saw Hans's face earlier in the movie through the ceiling of the elevator when they were looking at the body

Joe Blankenship

Stuff Natalie needs to watch: the Netflix Daredevil series, and the 5 Sony Spider-Man movies.

Anonymous

Recommend: Recommend- (Maybe include these in a poll). Action- Speed Children of Men The book of Eli Dark-man (1990) The Running man Comedy- Tropic Thunder Horror- Quiet Place 2 The Fly(1996)

Anonymous

I do think Terminator 2 might change your mind on best action movie whenever we watch it.

Anonymous

ROTFLMAO when Natalie said "Jesus Lord Almighty!" Isn't Nat Jewish?

Julia

Don't you have Disney+! Thats what I'm watching it on. I'm excited to finally watch this movie and see what Jake Peralta has been taking about all these years! It's fun to watch a new movie with someone who has seen it before as well sometimes bc they point out things you may not have noticed! I can't wait to see Alan Rickman

Adam Stanley

Think it might only be an Aussie thing but yeah most of the 20th century fox stuff is on the 13 dollar disney+ subscription even Logan is on there.

Richard Maurer

"No one can tell me Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie!" - Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie. There are movies that happen to take place during Christmas, like Die Hard, and there are movies that are about Christmas, like A Christmas Story. In fact, Krampus and Silent Night, Deadly Night are more Christmas movies than Die Hard.

Anonymous

man this christmas movie debate is heating up lol my little addition is to ask "ok well then what IS a christmas movie?" because theme/decoration/plot inclusion/soundtrack wise, this movie hits all the marks :)

Cripkie

nice one. It's horrible the way your country treats its poor. For a country full of religious people America seems to have a very contradictoy Darwinistic/ survival of the fittest attitude.

Cripkie

Wow Allen Rickmen can play a sociopath perfectly. Hans cold indifference for anything but money is chilling.

Cripkie

Haha i love American sass, and Bruce carries it well. The loveable scoundrel, the reluctant hero, the rogue.

I started a Holiday tradition about 10 years ago, where I wrap all my presents on Christmas Eve, and watch Die Hard on repeat while drinking several bottles of red wine (however many viewings/bottles it takes). This year I’ll have some awesome commentary! Stoked! Happy Holidays to y’all! And to those that have a tough time during this season, you’re not alone.

Robb Hollen

You should react to the movie PCU starring Jeremy Piven. It was directed by Die Hard's very own Hart Bochner (Harry Ellis)!

Anonymous

If it hadn’t been recommended or if it’s has it needs a second. You really should watch RED (2010) , besides die hard 3 “Live Free or Die Hard” (2007) it’s is one of my favorite Bruce Willis movie ever made.

Alan Kobb

Hey, everyone. Please head on over to YouTube and catch Natalie's reaction to Die Hard where you can donate a few dollars in Nat's name to Feeding America. Already over $4000 has been donated, and there are plenty more hungry mouths to feed. Happy Holidays to all!

Matthew

Another film that connects details throughout its script is "Silverado." It's a Western that seems to get overlooked for others like Eastwood's films or "Tombstone." But it's simply fun and entertaining, and maybe like a bit of a love letter to the genre from Lawrence Kasdan.
