Happy Ted Tuesday Nat finale time is here wanna say I've loved these reactions to this wonderful show I'd have to say they are right up there as my favourite of your reactions so ty so much Nat for the laughs and tears and just a massively enjoyable journey 💛ty so much for bringing this show to our attention it was a stroke of golden genius and on that note lets hit that play button 💛

Darryl Low

I'm not usually one for replying to comments like yours, but you sir, are a disrespectful asshole. Please find the nearest available exit, use it and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Ian

That was fantastic watching Nat going through the emotions we go through on a weekly basis during matches was one of my favourite moments of the entire show run, we love our teams and boy do we go through it supporting them lol next season Nat wearing a fc Richmond shirt during reactions? That would be incredible 😉

Eddie

I agree with Natalie about everything that Nate told Ted at the end was a reflection of his issues only. It broke me seeing the "Believe" sign being torn in two. Oh, I seriously thought Akufo's assistant was going to shake Sam's hand and I died laughing when he didn't. I truly enjoyed this show.

Darryl Low

Yeah, shreddies are so much better than shredded wheat Nat, especially frosted shreddies 😋 Nate was dealt with in Ted's usual mild-mannered way, by letting him essentially fall on his sword and head out the door. Good riddance. Will be interesting to watch the 2 teams go head to head. Thanks so much for introducing us to this show on your channel Nat. I was a little late to the party, but have enjoyed it so much and your laughter and fun commentaries have been immense and a real tonic around dinnertime. We'll see you back on the pitch next season 💛

Overall my feeling about Nate’s character trajectory was just one of sadness. It’s easy to say we hate him, because that’s what the writers want you to feel. But he clearly has abandonment and parental issues, was getting the love from Ted he never got from his dad, which is why he’s always so hard on himself, and can’t even revel in his tactics winning them the match, because I imagine growing up his dad would never outwardly congratulate him (just look at how he didn’t thank him for getting that table in the restaurant). Also, when he mentions that Ted doesn’t even have the photo of them celebrating together in his office, it’s because you actually see it on Ted’s dresser in his apartment near the beginning in the funeral episode, next to a photo of his own son. So it clearly does mean a lot to him, but Nate not knowing this just fuels his (self)hatred even more. And in the end he knows he’s said far too much to just take it back, so leaves to be the main man at West Ham. But I think next season we’ll see him get chewed up and spit out by Rupert, and they will redeem his character, because in season 1 he was so likeable, and I get they needed a villain for the story, but mostly this show is one big therapy session about learning to love yourself and accepting love from others, and being open and honest, so he will come back.

You're not wrong at all about Nate going gray. The actor himself, Nick Mohammed, has mentioned that, at least in his mind, Nate's character is inspired by Jose Mourinho, at least in terms of the look he ended up with at the end of the season. But, also, Mourinho once famously referred to himself as a "special one" in a press conference early in his coaching career, which was obviously echoed at least a little when Nate basically called himself a wonder kid.

Windfury

Yes Nate's downfall the season was interesting. He was constantly getting help from everyone and usually taking the wrong lesson from it. Nate complains about the picture of Ted and him isn't in his office, that's because Ted moved it to his house. Nate also says he earned it but only because Ted even gave him a chance, the odds of a kitman becoming a full coach is microscopic to my knowledge (Do you see him giving Will the same support?). Remember even when he was getting promoted, he called Rebecca a shrew. This whole thing with the False Nine was designed to try to prevent Richmond getting promoted, presumably at Rupert's request after the funeral. He's all on on taking the credit when things go well and deflecting blame if things go wrong. Anyways it was great watching this with you and looking forward to Season 3 of this plus things upcoming. I know Chernobyl didn't win the poll but it's only 5 episodes so maybe it can be slid in at some point soon as it was a very interesting show, either way, Happy Holidays :)

Eddie

Also, I love that they stayed with the false nine. There's a difference between coming up with tactics and managing a group of players in order to get the best out of them.

This has been a wonderful series of reactions, and I'm so glad you've enjoyed the show!! There's a LOT of good writing and analysis on this show that I hope you'll go read now you're up to date on the show. My favourite bits of analysis for this final episode: "John Obi-Wan Gandalf" is referencing coach John Wooden, the guy who created the pyramid of success. (The pyramid Ted has in his office is signed by him!) It's central to Ted's coaching style. Focuses on stuff like loyalty, enthusiasm, and friendship, which serves as the BASE level to get to things like skill and self-control and finally "competitive greatness". The book Beard reads, "Inverting The Pyramid", is about football strategy. The pyramid formation is 2-3-5. And if you invert it you get 5-3-2.... Aka "5 days later, 3 weeks later, 2 months later". The episode is called "Inverting the Pyramid of Success". So... By putting "competitive greatness" above ALL ELSE, discarding loyalty and friendship, Nate is (wrongfully) inverting the pyramid of success. They put a lot of thought into this stuff, and I love it.

Hi Nat and thanks for this new great reaction! 😁 I love how you were so emotional haha, but your reaction with Nate was so great hahaha, his evolution was really predictable but he's really a pain in the *** hahaha I can't wait to see your next reaction, I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

It's been so great to watch this with you! I think Nate's character is so interesting, realistic and complex. I haven't seen this portrayed in media before, but it makes total sense to me. A person who has been made fel very small by a parental figure has low self esteem gets uplifted and seen and made feel important for the first time. It's so unfamliar to him that he has no tools to deal with that. He has trouble internalising love and support, every inconveinece is interpered as rejection. As soon as Ted's focus is somewhere else he feels abandoned. He tries to not feel worthless by putting himself above people. He just doesn't know how to navigate any of this. Imagine if he would have started seeing Sharon. It maybe could have changed everything. I think Nate's character portrays something very common: people who have been abused can end up becoming abuser themselves if they're not given the tools to heal.

Nate does have a punchable face.

djKENTO

This is the 3rd time I’ve watched Season 2. Nate’s hair shift is actually soooo good and turns greyer as the season goes on.

JediLounger

So after watching this episode, reading the comments and thinking about it, I’m not so sure that Nate told the full truth about what he was feeling. He clearly has anger and abandonment issues with how he feels Ted mistreated him, and I am sure that factored into the rant he had at halftime. But I think the primary reason that he was angry with Ted was that he betrayed Ted, and fully expected Ted to lash out, fire him, expose his treachery or whatever would have happened, and Ted…did not. Ted deliberately took the high road and protected Nate from retaliation from the team. He did not fire him immediately, and let him coach the game. Ted then asked him in the locker room what was wrong, and if he could help him. Nate then lashed out again, ranting about the troubles that he had, and instead of scolding him about what Nate did, or even telling him that he knew it was him at all, Ted apologized to Nate. And Nate left in a huff, sulked during the rest of the match, and attacked Ted by tearing up the sign and quitting. While this anger Nate feels might have started how he said, I think it is now fueled by anger that Ted maintained his composure and honor in the face of betrayal, while Nate did not. Nate was trying to bring Ted down to his level, and he failed. Honestly I would not be shocked if next season we see Nate doing some sly nonsense, toeing the line on the rules, or just breaking them if he is able.

Great reaction as always. It really is one of the best shows running these days, glad you chose to react to it.

Nick Mohammed who plays Nate has a pinned tweet where he goes into a lot of the decisions that went into his storyline through the season. I was a lot like Nat and was very frustrated with Nate through the season. But the arc as a whole really works for me. The toxicity is there in the character as far back as his roasting the team in Everton.

Jeremy York

Great reactions, and this breakdown of Nate progression in the two seasons is really good https://youtu.be/cP1YcIWLPbA

I'm terribly sorry that I have to be the person to say this, but it's not Zorro, it's Zoreaux. :)

This has been a really fun show. Lots of highs and lows. I'm ready for some WHAT IF!

Eric

I mean, I think it's okay to treat a hundred billion dollar a year industry as if it's not just a game. It *is* a game, but it is also very high stakes: jobs are on the line. A coach's performance will impact the owners, the staff, the players, the players' family, children who may have to move schools if a player is traded if a team performs poorly... it's not "not a big deal."

Matt Camburn

i really like nate's progression through the show (don't get me wrong, if he was a real person, i wouldnt like him at all, but character wise its interesting) I like how he's gone from waaay to under confident all the way to waaaay too confident. Kinda like Jamie earlier on, he was 100% self positive, even if it came off as rude to other people. Now by the end, Jamie is a respectable guy and nate is the "villain"ll. Infact the same with rebecca as jamie, early on they where the villains and it seemed that nate couldn't ever be a rude kinda guy, but here we are, everyone's like a big happy family and nate's now the asshole out of everyone

Eric

1 - Yeah, the writing team did a good job with Nate. REALLY unlikeable character now, and I'm not sure I agree with that decision, but the execution of it was very well done. From day 1 (of season 2) until the final moment of the season, it was an arc that wasn't hard to predict, but that's because it was well executed, not ham-fisted. Especially his spitting on the mirror; at that point, I don't think you would've predicted *this*, but it's such a disgusting thing to do, especially since they never showed him cleaning off the mirror, which is remarkably rude and selfish... I'd guess that they made the conscious decision to show that he didn't clean up after himself because they knew they were going down this path. So it could've just been a thing that would be weird in real life but stuff like that happens regularly in tv and we're supposed to just kind of move past it (and mostly we do), but I think they did that for a specific reason. 2 - On the one hand, you're right that Roy should've talked to Keely, but then again a) he wanted it to be a surprise and b) he's a fucking filthy rich athlete (he was a star soccer player in England). So he can afford to blow some money on tickets that he ended up not using. That'd be like if you or I bought an ice cream for a date then found out he or she was lactose-intolerant; honestly, the price of a plane ticket to him is probably less, in relative terms, than an ice cream cone to you or I. He wanted to surprise her, the surprise didn't work all that well... I'm pretty sure it's not that big of a deal. It's a tv show, so maybe they're setting something up... but then again, they showed towards the end of the 2nd-to-last ep that they trusted each other enough to tell that shit to each other (about the teacher, and Jamie, and Nate), and Roy forgave Jamie and Nate, so... it's not like their relationship is in a bad place at all.

Eric

3 - The actor who played the billionaire from Ghana trying to recruit Sam away from Richmond is a comedic actor. Sam's reaction to him flipping out indicated, to me, that that was supposed to be a comedic scene. I think you kinda took it too seriously. I think it was supposed to be funny how quickly he went from chummy to throwing a tantrum. Sam certainly watched it with bemusement. 4 - Jan said to Zorro that he should've had the FIRST goal. You agreed, but we only saw the SECOND goal. (Doesn't really matter, but... for the record.)

My thought about the red phone (probably an iPhone) was that Apple produced this special edition “(PRODUCT)RED” for the iPhone 8 generation devices. Portions of the proceeds from the purchases of (PRODUCT)RED went toward funding programs for Testing, Counseling and Treatment for People Living with HIV/AIDS. If there were to be any phone that is totally reflective of Sam’s compassionate/empathetic/socially-conscious character, it would have be this phone. Putting in a detail such as this, I would venture to say, was no accident. Thank You Natalie for the enjoyable content.

My immediate thought when I saw the episode was that Roy should take Rebecca to Marbella with him. She could use a break from Richmond to sort herself out, and they’d be good travel buddies.
