Hadn't seen this movie Nat, so was looking forward to your reaction and seeing what it was all about. Wow. Wow. Wow. Probably the most complex, funny and interesting movie we've watched on your channel. I really enjoyed it. Was challenging to keep an eye on the movie, the subtitles and your reaction, but it was so worth it. So many themes and parallels throughout the story, and it all came to a head in a unexpected and unforgettable way. Your commentary really kept everything in check. Definitely a worthy award winning movie. Thanks for an amazing video and reaction today Nat. Have a great weekend 💛

Randee Carreno

Happy Saturday, Natalie! 😊 Downloading this right now to watch tonight. I've heard good things about this movie. I'm looking forward to watching this reaction this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Zack Wallace

Just out of curiosity, did you watch this in Korean with subtitles or in English with subtitles?

Anonymous

In korea they have their own rice based alcohol called Soju. Very cheap and easy to drink. My favorite is the orange flavor. Tastes like smarties candy. Also they were in a PC Cafe when she was photoshopping the degree. PC cafes are very popular places to go play video games and chill with friends. Of course they would go there because they dont have their own computer.

Navjot Singh

As far as I know, there is no official English language version of the movie. Only a fan edit.

Hi Nat! Great reaction today, I'm glad you watched it 😄, I think it would be nice if you watched more foreign movies (not English speaking), so many good films are unknown and deserve their time to shine hahaha And yeah the film is really well done (story, photography, I liked all the actors in their role, etc), there are a lot of good films from South Korea. I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Seunghan Rhie

I'm glad that you want to find out Director Bong's other work as well. Director Bong Joon-Ho had made movies like 'Memories of Murder', 'Mother', 'Snowpiercer', 'The Host', and every single movie he made redefined Korean cinema industry. As a South Korean, I hope to see you navigate through the vast library Korean Cinema can offer. : )

I'm so glad this one just won out in the vote as its such a change of pace. Also some of my fave movies are from this director and others in South Korea. They have such a distinct tone and style.

Brian Jones

The only real error with the movie is in the ending, otherwise it's really good. But given that the police were investigating the murders, there is no way the panic room/utility room would not be found. Even then, when the house was being shown off by realtors they would have had to know about the room. Not to mention no one in the new German family or their hawk of a maid somehow magically not noticing food was continually coming up missing. So the movie really jumps the shark once the party happens. IMHO Joker should have won best picture over this film in 2020, but glad you enjoyed it all the same though. Great reaction as always.

Ben Gilshenan

you should watch invincible or the boys to great super hero style shows

Ian

Happy Saturday Nat enjoyed your reaction very much it's nice being able to understand the dialogue this time through , this film really takes a turn half way through huh 🙂 ty as always for the great reactions this week Nat enjoy the rest of your time away stay safe and ofcourse stay golden 💛 on the topic of oscars I hope one day you consider my cousin vinny for one of your polls Marisa tomei won an Oscar for best supporting actress plus its a wonderful film 👌

Opti_Frog

Absolutely loved this reaction. Parasite is one of the best films of the last decade, and the more you think about it, about the story, about the themes and visual metaphors, the better it gets.

Joe Blankenship

This was my 2nd time watching it and I liked it even more this time...... So, what's next? How about "Liar, Liar" with Jim Carrey? or "Dirty Work" with Norm Macdonald?(RIP)

Dooly

Just happy to see Korean representation becoming more prevalent.

You pretty much can't go wrong with any of Bong Joon Ho's output. Great reaction!

My favourite shot of the film is at the end, where he places the rock in a river. The whole movie, this damn rock was set up as this wonderful gift for the family and those before only for it to be set in a place where its significance is nowhere to be seen. Strange connection but it threw me back to the coin in No Country, the "story" of both the rock and coin are made from those in possession of either, but in reality, it's just us who take the object and build a "story" around it. Also my second time watching it catching some things like the housekeeper is said "She eats for two" LOL

Anonymous

Loved this movie watched it for the first time with you, the disparity between the rich and the poor is stark and common to nearly every country on earth, which is why this movie is so accessible for audiences around the world.

chicks dig me

Does anyone know where to stream parasite without renting?

Daniel Casillas

You should react to The Host for Natmare also Directed by Bong Joon-Ho

john collins

My only problem with this movie is why the hell would they let the previous house keeper in? I get that they needed to for the climax of the story but it seems kinda out of character imo

Anonymous

If you are going to watch other foreign language movies, I suggest watching Jean de Florette and its’ sequel Manon de Source my favourite french movies.

Essero Eson

I think Kevin's ability to buy the house isn't out of reach. It has had a triple murder there and had a body buried in the back yard for some time. I think he can talk the owner down.

Alex B

Was blown away when I first watched this movie, would love to see you react to Train to Busan an incredible Korean zombie movie

Erik Stevenson

Love this movie and great reaction. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to listen to the reaction while reading subtitles (though I voted for this movie in the poll just because of how great it is) and it was went surprisingly well I thought. Would be very on board for more non-english films periodically in the future!

Matthew Periolat

Extraordinary. Only word I can think of to describe it. This is such a creative and different movie that you want more people to see because of what it says. But you know people won’t because it’s not ‘for them.’ And maybe that’s a good thing, movies like this, like Moonlight, remain special, thoughtful, clever and creative. You earn these movies. When you think about it, the movie shows two ways to live - you earn and appreciate or you grab on to what falls and hope it keeps falling, just enough to keep you alive. You survive. You are the parasite. That’s not good or bad, no one is good or bad, it’s… existence now. That’s worth pondering. Honestly, papers could be, and I’m sure are, written about movies like this. Thank goodness for it. High marks and thanks for finally getting me to watch this. Still Golden.

Ilsuk Yang

"Liar, Liar" would be nice (or "The Truman Show"). "Jack," "Bicentennial Man," or "Patch Adams" with Robin Williams would be nice, too

Ilsuk Yang

Yeah, I caught that line too (also my second time watching it). That line didn't even register the first time I watched it!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Wow. First time watch for me as well. That line bodied me, damn, If I'd followed my instincts instead of my "plan". This movie was definitely interesting, deep, in a unique way, lot of bold themes going on here. I believe I'll be watching this many more times. Also, wouldn't mind more foreign language reactions, City Of God immediately comes to mind.

This_Jedi_crafts

Wow - what an intense film. I was so intrigued by the original film trailer - but never got the chance to see the film. So many themes and what a ride. Now, of course - being OCD - I want to read reviews and people's thoughts on the work as I'm sure I missed a TON as far as symbolism, etc. Glad this won the poll and really enjoyed your reaction.

Skizane

I've seen this film before, it was even better on the second watch. Everything happens so fast at the party, it kind of just blew past me the first time. This time I watched it a few times to see the chain of events better and understand everybody's motivation. If you want to see another excellent Korean film, try one called 'Forgotten' on Netflix. It's a twisty turny mystery thriller and just one of the best movies overall I've seen in a good long while. It's very satisfying to watch and be surprised by, and I would LOVE to see you react to it, Natalie. Your guesses about where plots are going and what characters are going to do are usually spot on, but I would be so completely enthralled and absorbed seeing you trying to figure out where this one is going before it gets there.

Valar Dohaeris

For me, as it usually happens with many Oscar winners it is a cute film from its year, that won't be remembered beyond that. Any other movie in your original pool is more time proof than this one.

Brandon Zepf

What's the schedule going to look like once you finish GOT?

James M

Nice react! I didn't notice anything that affected you with just subtitles. It's interesting to me as a Korean-American to see people enjoying films and other cultural exports from Korea. I enjoyed the film before but had not seen it since my first viewing, and it was so interesting to me watching it the second time around. A finely crafted story. Bong Joon Ho's work is brilliant in this film IMO.

ButtyOh

I've never actually gotten around to watching this because if it's not Train to Busan I'm generally not a fan of subtitled films. But i took this as an opportunity to finally sit down and watch it and I'm surprised how much i liked it

sammi

If anyone needs help syncing the reaction to the movie on Hulu you can try out this browser extension that I developed: https://www.casper.live/ You can pause and jump around in the reaction and everything is kept in sync. My recommended "offset" for this reaction is 237.7.

Crazy how many more details and parallels I notice during a rewatch... Everything about that epilogue with the son and his "plan" is gut-wrenching. Before, the "material wealth" stone is shown floating up to the surface in sewage water, signifying how it's actually empty and false, just like the hope for fortune/wealth that it symbolized. That's also why Kevin survived two blows to the skull with it. And the next time we see the stone in water is right after the brain-damaged, crime-convicted son runs home from the subway and falls asleep in his semi-basement, immediately cutting to the sunny scenes about his "plan", which starts out with him placing the stone in a riverbed... but in this dream, the stone isn't hollow, it doesn't float, and the water it sinks into is crystal clear.

I'm still convinced the scene in the gym foreshadows 2020 when it comes to no plan being the best plan there can be, which makes it way more creepy.

Wu Sha Ling

besides the literal plot, the socio-economic and historical layers are incredibly impactful. many korean middle class families did start fried chicken shops and eventually economically gutted. holding a mirror to the myth of learning skills and working hard would earn you prosperity. the rich were oblivious and unskilled. they were born of old money or just lucky to marry into wealth. and then there's the more obvious metaphores of living off the scraps of the rich, living literally under them in hiding. all put together with much skill i must say

Checo Lara

Great reaction, also great movie, this is one of my favorite movies so far, this movieis in my personal top ten. Other asian movies that you would like, and it would be interesting if you react to them, are: -Chungking Express (1995) -In the Mood for Love (2000) -Seven Samurai (1954) -Hidden Fortress (1958) -The Ballad of Narayama (1983) -Oldboy (2003) -Sympathy for Lady Vengeance -Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance -Mother (2009) -Hard Boiled (1992) -Memories of Murder(2003) -JSA (Joint Security Area) (2000) -Battle Royale (2000) -Confessions (2010) - A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)

I absolutely recommend "The Handmaiden", another recent Korean film, for your channel. It's full of twists and turns so I think it would make a great reaction video, and it's got incredible set design and lighting that I know you would really appreciate! It's also LGBT so it might be a good one for Pride Month.

Joel

I feel very special having arrived in South Korea in 2018 because the Army stationed me there. Then to have a South Korean film win several Academy Awards and seeing the national pride that erupted for Parasite and for Bong Joon Ho. This movie will hold a special place in my heart.

Eric Tanaka

I loved that you reacted to this movie, Nat! I remember hearing about how great it was when it was going through the festival circuit and getting great buzz. I live in a more rural area, but luckily in one of the most urban areas of southern Illinois. I was waiting and waiting for this movie to get a theatrical release because 1, I did not want to drop $20 on a purchase of the movie just to watch it at home and 2, I already pay for AMC A-List, so I wanted to utilize it (and see it on the big screen haha). After it was nominated for an Oscar, about a week later there was ONE showing a night for those hardcore fans. I immediately saw it as soon as physically possible. SUCH a great theater experience. When the tone changed as soon as the old housekeeper was let back in the house and opens the panic room, you could feel the entire atmosphere in the theater change. Even though there weren't many people at the showing, I could feel it. It was an experience to say the least. Love all your reactions! Keep up the great work!
