Help me pick another movie for next week please :)

Comments

David Blake

Blade Runner (1982) is a masterpiece. ❤️

Game Wizard001

Martian or Blade Runner are great picks.

Anonymous

Interstellar would break your non-existing question counter, HAHA

Randee Carreno

Love all 4 movies! But I'm definitely going with "The Martian"!!!! Such an EXCELLENT movie with a great cast. Have a great day and weekend, Natalie! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Anonymous

Give me The Martian 👀👀

Josh Hess

The Martian is amazing!! You'll laugh and cry

Anonymous

its not sci-fi but i'd love a reaction to Drive

This_Jedi_crafts

Looks as though The Martian will win BUT Bladerunner is amazing and should be seen at some point.

Connor Alexander

I picked Blade Runner but only because I want you to get to Blade Runner 2049. I think you'll really enjoy the Martian. Great film.

Anonymous

Blade Runner, director's cut, no voice-over, ends in elevator.

Darryl Low

Nattie's in a sci-fi mood. Making up for lost time he he Ridley Scott for the win. Wishing for Blade Runner, but will settle for The Martian. Both amazing movies you will enjoy, and can't wait to watch along with you. Have a great weekend Nat 💛

Game Wizard001

Yeah, the fact that both are Ridley Scott films is great. Should push for Legend next. It was his next film after Alien was made. He wanted to do a fantasy film to sort of reset after Alien.

Patrick Egan

I have to put my support in for E.T., that movie is such a big part of my childhood.

Andy Jordan

Blade Runner is the most important and influential of these, and one of my personal favorites, so my vote goes there, although they're all terrific. If Blade Runner wins, do let us know which version you're watching because there're about a thousand different versions (Theatrical Cut, Director's Cut, Final Cut, etc.). I'm a Final Cut man myself, but that's just one person's opinion, and I respect others', as well. I wouldn't mind E.T. winning either, though, 'cause that's my sentimental favorite. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid.

It Hurt A Lot

Sorry Blade Runner fans, The Martian is on the poll. It's too good

Anonymous

I hate to be THAT voter, but these are all ok, but you should check out GATTACA. Sci-fi Drama. Really good. Maybe you do another list with gattaca, time traveler's wife, Moon and Sliding Doors. Subtle Sci-fi.

Anonymous

You’d like ET the best

acidnova

The Martian is such a good fit for you and it's not one I've seen a ton of reactions to already so I'd really be looking forward to seeing your reaction to it.

Ronny Boss

The Martian all the way. We are going to react the shiz out of this 😂

Luis Torrefranca

Cast my votes, but adding a note for Arrival (Amy Adams) for review later.

Luis Torrefranca

The Martian: first Hobbit on Mars.

Arki Kali

The Martian for sure. One of the best movies out there. I don't know that I'd consider it true sci-fi. I mean, yes, it takes place on Mars, but could also be set on a deserted island, a la Castaway. Regardless, it's fantastic.

Valar Dohaeris

Blade runner is really a masterpiece of its time (my time) but I think is one of those that became to slow for modern audiences... I wouldn't watch it again, I guess. But for cinema aficionados, for sure it's a must watch...

Anonymous

ET is a wonderful family classic. The Martian is a great movie.

Balmung

I second this, and I would add that Blade Runner 2049 is such a better experience for a modern audience that I have to consider it the better movie. Unfortunately it requires the first one for context.

Anonymous

I agree the Martian is a good choice. But I like all of these, so its hard to leave something out. It would be nice to watch all four. But another Sci-fi that I think Nat would enjoy is Arrival, with Amy Adams. Transcendant performance by Amy, the problem to be overcome doesn't relate to battling an enemy, and intriguing structuring of the story line. With a nice emotional resonance. But all of these movies have a good thoughtfulness to them.

Anonymous

Impossible to choose! Blade Runner is one of my absolute favorites, but so is Interstellar! And the Martian is just great fun and quite unique. So the choice, really, is easy: you just have to watch them all!

David of the North

You will LOVE The Martian. Therefore it gets my vote.

Anonymous

I think Arrival was on another list of hers and she’s seen it. Fantastic film though. You should read the short story it’s based on.

Logan Kerlee

GATTACA was fantastic, for sure. That movie's heavy on the political vibe, though I feel. It isn't for everyone.

Vincent Valentin

ahhh normally id pick Blade Runner, but I think you'll enjoy The Martian more. I think it deserved more love when it came out.

Ben Wheeler

Oy I consistently pick the #2 choice

Anonymous

How is The Martian beating Bladerunner?

RebRox65

This is a no brainier for me, BLADE RUNNER - Directors cut, simply one the best Sci-fi movies ever directed by The Great Ridley Scott, music by Vangelis and Starring Harrison Ford in probably one of the most realistic probability of our future. The Martian is a great movie but it not a masterpiece like Blade Runner is was made in 1985 and is still talked about as a benchmark movie, and I’d like a new generation to discover is greatness for the first audience.

Anonymous

Man i'd love to see an Interstellar reaction but I do kinda agree with everyone else saying I think you'd really really enjoy the martian, its a great film.

Anonymous

It has to be Blade Runner: The Director's Cut in HD...it has to be.

Keith Jones

Yeah, I prefer Blade Runner, but it's really a movie you want to talk with people about. It's not "fun" in the traditional sense. You really need to make sure you watch the right version of it as well. The Martian is a great movie and I think you'll probably enjoy it more.

It Hurt A Lot

I agree. I know it was nominated for best picture and best actor at the Oscars, along with a few other categories. But it didn't land anything. I can't even remember what won it that year

Anonymous

I'm picking Blade Runner, but mostly because I want her to eventually watch 2049

Steven Hok

Tough choice for me between Interstellar and The Martian, but gonna have to go with The Martian. It’s too good!

Dale Josephson

Hands down, Blade runner! Love all the others but if you haven't seen Blade Runner, you've really missed out!

Anonymous

Blade runner is a iconic sci-fi flick, if not this time (because it looks like we have to rescue Matt Damon again) then I recommend it soon and it's sequel

Lisa Tosti

Blade runner is good but then you have to watch Blade runner 2049 because it's incredible! My vote is for The Martian.

Anonymous

Loved The Martian. Has anyone read the book? I hear the author wrote it by repeatedly devising a problem and then researching how it could scientifically be solved. I only know of two scientific inaccuracies.

Julien Grenier

Wait, how can't it be E.T. ? THE Classic of the Classics ? You have to see at least once in your life !!

Ian

Blade runner is my fav of the 4 but I believe the Martian will make the best pick for a Nat reaction plus its a great film also

tezster

Martian is a wonderful film, but not that reaction-worthy IMHO. Bladerunner would be a much better film to react to.

FandomReferenceHere

I also very much want you to (eventually) see Blade Runner. But I picked The Martian because I think you'll really enjoy it and it will be a great reaction!

Anonymous

Voted for The Martian, but all 4 are great choices. However, if we are going to jump in the wayback machine and have to choose, I would always suggest Close Encounters of the Third Kind over ET.

Robert Reichle

The Martian- yet another one I'll be skipping. What do you do when you find a great reaction channel but can't stand half of the poll results?

Dan

I'd love to see Ex Machina or GATTACA on one of these lists!

Troy B.

Blade Runner's got one of the most iconic speeches in the history of sci-fi.

Eric Janssen

Yes, that one escaped Millennial 80's notice, for coming in the 70's (and thus being an "old pre-1982 movie"), and I've only seen one or two reactions to it. If Jaws and The Exorcist taught you anything, it's that 70's movies will always take you by surprise. :)

John

How about an entire movie series on Saving Matt Damon? You've already done Saving Private Ryan. Courage Under Fire (1996) Saving Private Ryan (1998) Titan A.E. (2000) Syriana (2005) Green Zone (2010) Elysium (2013) Interstellar (2014) The Martian (2015)

REDR58

Blade Runner (The Final Cut)

Amanda Sargent

Love, love, love The Martian 👽 and the book

Paul C

If you do Bladerunner, you will have to follow it up with Bladerunner 2049.

Jai Nelson

Damn it, can Bladerunner finally win. Nat will love the noir vibe. The Martian is great, but wow Bladerunner is a masterpiece.

Anouar

How can she not remember interstellar 😑

Ken

Newer, shinier, more middle of the road.

Anonymous

Freaking REALLY: The Fkn Martian over GD Bladerunner.......? Eugh.

Dan Careaga

All great choices, I am down for any of these, anytime. I hope you get to all of them eventually.

Anonymous

Bladerunner is a classic that spawned the entire cyberpunk movement. Do the director's cut, though!

George Baxter

Really hope we get the Martian. That film is very underappreciated and an empathetic reactor like Nat should hopefully really vibe with it. Blade runner is a classic but it’s hardly an emotional character piece. More conceptual and groundbreaking

Joel

The Martian is trash compared to Interstellar

Anonymous

I can't believe Blade Runner is losing the vote again! You've definitely got to get round to it sometime, but as others have said try to get the Director's Cut or Final Cut version. The sequel, Blade Runner 2049 isn't bad either, but the original is an absolute classic and should really be regarded as a standalone.

Jason

Interstellar is a great movie, but The Martian is right up your alley, you will love it.

Opti_Frog

Interstellar is good, but overrated like most Nolan films, except The Prestige and Memento.

ISeeTrees ofGreen

I watched bladerunner: the final cut and ill have to be honest, i did not enjoy it at all. I don’t understand the hype and i found myself increasingly bored throughout the movie. Am i missing something?

Gary Poussard

Blade Runner for the win please

Anonymous

"The Final Cut" is the version you want to watch. "The Director's Cut" is actually the studio's cut, and "The Final Cut" is actually the director's cut.

Anonymous

Martian is OK. But Bladerunner is a classic that everyone should watch.

A Vicarious View

Bladerunner: The Final Cut! It heavily influenced sci-fi as we know it today and was based on the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" It and Bladerunner: 2049 are excellent philosophical ponderings on life and artificial intelligence.

Ulrich Unterbrunner

If Interstellar has already been seen, then we join Matt Damon on Mars instead on Mann's Planet. Also read the book by Andy Weir. It is great!

sheriffjt

Not to be that guy, but technically the original version of Bladerunner influenced sci-fi, not any subsequent version.

David Crabtree

Really pulling for The Martian, one of my favorite sci-fi films, and probably one of my favorite films of the past decade. E.T. would be fun as well. Gotta be honest, I know it's a cult classic, but I don't really care for Bladerunner. I've seen it a couple times, but I just have never enjoyed watching it. And Interstellar is such a slog to get through. But it's all subjective.

Danny Miller

You should definitely watch ‘Moon’ at some point, if you haven’t already seen it. Great sci-fi movie with Sam Rockwell.

JarHead0351

Apollo 13 is great space movie that is also true story - also think Hidden Figures is another great story too both are NASA related movies

David Crabtree

For those wondering "why is Bladerunner losing the vote", it's really simple. While Bladerunner has become a cult classic over the past few decades, it was a financial box office failure when it came out. It's popular in smaller circles with diehard movie and sci-fi fans, but it's never been very big in the mainstream zeitgeist. A movie such as a Martian, was a huge financial and critical hit, was very popular with the mainstream audience, and it's only been like 6 years since it's release

Anonymous

If I could recommend one for the future, "Source Code" was a surprisingly great movie. It always keeps you guessing and was fascinating throughout.

Max du Coudray

Blade Runner is a top 5 all-time movie for me and it’s recent sequel is amazing. But I think the Martian is a better pick here.

Jonathan Deguire

It's all subjective, but I'm really hoping for the Martain. The Martain in one of my all time favourite movies and Matt Damon on my favourite male actor. I've seen Bladerunner a few times never cared for it. It's not a bad movie but I'd rather watch anything else.

Jonathan Deguire

Source Code? Is that the one with Jake Gyllenhaal? I totally forgot about that movie it was a wild ride. Definitely a good recommendation for the future.

Mike Slosson

I'd like to suggest that when you watch The Martian, whether it wins this poll or later on, that you also watch the extras on the dvd. Most are in-universe (like in-character interviews with characters), and the rest you'll appreciate as someone who's been in the film industry. If you're iffy, just keep that in mind in case you love the movie enough to buy it.

Opti_Frog

While i admit that Blade Runner is a well crafted film, and a visual feast, i have three reasons not to vote for it (in this particular poll). 1. I'm not a fan of noir, and Blade Runner probably owes more to Mickey Spillane than Philip K. Dick for it's atmosphere and characters. 2. I think the themes tackled in Blade Runner has been done better in other films such as Ex Machina, Moon and (some of you will call me crazy) A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Granted, the first two points are simply about my personal preference. But: 3. I think Nat will enjoy The Martian more than Blade Runner.

Scott Greene

Nat, watch E.T. Essential viewing.

Bruce Bromley

I would enjoy seeing an adaption of the original book, which s excellent. One of two films that got me to read their source material. The second being Dune.

JediLounger

Too many comments to scroll through right now, so not sure if someone has said it already, but if you watch The Martian, make sure you rent the EXTENDED cut from Amazon. It is a much closer representation of the book than the theatrical cut. I also found that you really do feel the time pass with Mark, it is tangible.

RebRox65

I think The Martian will win this poll, but I hope Blade Runner gets a second chance, Nat said she wants to watch award winning movies, this fits as an iconic movie.

Cole Jennett

There’s a handful of movies that I have never understood the hype for. I know I’m in the major minority but I can’t understand the appeal of Bladerunner (original and the new) Snow Piercer and Mad Max Fury Road. I live for movies, but I found all 3 of these to be a chore to watch. Couldn’t have less interest in seeing any of them again.

Nerd Going Outside

Bladerunner is overrated without the nostalgia factor. The correct film is winning.

Niklas

Interstellar would have been my first choice, but since you've already seen it I gotta go with The Martian.

Anonymous

Intersteller is depressing AF. It starts depressing, has a depressing middle, and has a depressing end, and nothing the main characters do actually matters. I don't understand why people like it.

Robjgood

Depressing, yes. However you could not be more wrong about the main characters not doing anything that matters. Its kind of the entire point of the movie...

David Crabtree

"Best" is subjective to each of our own personal opinions.

Kelvin

Regardless of which wins both kinda work. Blade Runner allows for more of a continuation into sci-fi and Martian is lighter fair as break after Interstellar.

Justin S.

All are good movies here and I think Nat would probably enjoy The Martian the best because of the added humor and directed by Ridley Scott. Here are my suggestions for sci-fi reactions in the future: Tron The Terminator Robocop The Abyss Total Recall (1990) The Lawnmower Man Stargate Virtuosity 12 Monkeys The Arrival

Anonymous

I can't believe for once the movie I clicked is in the lead. The Martian is such a fun time.

Jai Nelson

The Abyss would be a great one. I never come across any reactions to it. It, along with The Terminator, are actually what made me a cinephile from a very young age. I always said as a kid when I grew up I wanted to direct Terminator three LOL

Sam Kimpton

Normally I would have voted for Bladerunner, as it's just an amazing film. From the cinematography, lighting and effects to the plot and acting, it's all top notch. But I had to vote for The Martian because I was just thinking yesterday that I hoped you would watch it. It's just such a feel-good film, which is rare for Ridley Scott. :)

John

Yes to both of these!! Hidden Figures would have been great for Black History Month, but it's fantastic no matter when you watch it. And Apollo 13 is a masterclass on how to make a contemporary space movie. A story made even more riveting by the fact that it's true.

Texas Anla'Shok

Look like it's gonna be The Martian. Hope ya like Disco!

Jenny Tolls

How the hell did all of y'all pick The Martian over Interstellar??? Seriously! That legit makes me sick. I'm gonna go throw up now.

David Crabtree

Really? All movies are subjective. Also, Bladerunner became a cult classic after being a financial box office failure. The Martian was a huge smash hit, popular with the mainstream audience and critics, so it makes sense more people would vote for it. Again, these movies are all subjective, so I don't understand getting "sick" and wanting to "throw up" because other people don't share your same opinion on some movies.

Anonymous

50 years from now you will be hard pressed to find anyone that remembers The Martian. Not that it's a bad movie but it's nothing special. I watched it once and never had any desire to see it again. Bladerunner on the otherhand is a top 5 sci-fi of all times pick. People will still be watching and talking about it when my bones have turned to dust.

Anonymous

You ahould try some day an anime movie. Here 4 suggestions for a poll: - Silent Voice - Your Name - Wolf Children - The Boy and the Beast PE: i havnt included any ghibli movies here because i think that is a category on its own and you should watch every movie they made.

Ulrich Unterbrunner

50 years from now something in the Mars Colony will probably be named after Mark Watney (like a ship in the Expanse novels is named after him), like a place, landmark or procedure in hydroponics :)

Tay Schumaker

This 100%. It's a movie she'll love and it's a fun movie for a watch along.

Anonymous

Blade Runner and The Martian for sureskissss!!!!!! Both are so good :D

DaMarkiM

The Martian, yesss! My favorite and one of the only hard science movies of our age!!

DaMarkiM

Also really happy to see interstellar and bladerunner here, but the martians gonna be my first choice!

Ortizmo2000

The Martian is fantastic. Blade Runner is a classic.

Anonymous

Any chance for War of the Worlds (2005)?

Anonymous

Both The Martian and Interstellar are fantastic, though Interstellar is my personal favorite.

Jay Robert

Blade Runner, theatrical version

Ortizmo2000

aw shit.....that's right. There's like half a dozen different versions.

Anonymous

Interstellar is soo good and emotional. I f it doesn't win the vote , I hope you will still watch it

Christopher French

Blade Runner is way better than the Martian, but alas, I am just one vote.

Nicholas Sulikowski

Looking at the votes, looks like no Blade Runner any time soon. But if you do eventually get around to it, Blade Runner: The Final Cut is the preferred version, the only one where director Ridley Scott finally had say over the finished product, and the most widely available now. It's on HBO Max.

Anonymous

I vote Gravity with Sandra Bullock

Endling_king

yay for Captain Blond Beard!!

Cailey Jones

I feel like Blade Runner is the better movie, but The Martian would be WAY more fun to watch with you. I would be very excited to see your reactions to that film. It's so intense but in a really fun way :D

Anonymous

The Prestige!

Anonymous

Nostalgia plays a big part I think. I will always have a soft spot for it but if I saw it for the first time now I might feel the same. Would still recommend watching Blade Runner 2049 though.

nitind

Hopefully Blade Runner 2049 sometime soon.
