Hey guys!

Wanted to throw in a little surprise for you to start off the New Year and react to Rogue One! I know so many of you have been asking about this and I was super stoked to watch it. Fun side note, this is actually the first movie I watched in the year 2021!

We will be getting to both Serenity and Iron Man 3 this month as well (you guys helped me decide which order for those). But I just LOVE surprises and couldn't resist throwing this one in as well. As always, please let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Hope you're all having a great start to 2021. And until the next one, ✨stay golden✨

This just made my day! Thank you Nat!

It Hurt A Lot

Michael Scott: "Oh my God! Okay it's happening. Everybody stay calm. Stay ****ing calm!!!"

Ron K

Great surprise to wrap up a crazy 1st week of 2021! Thanks! I'm a 70's baby so I grew up with the originals. In my opinion Rogue One and The Mandalorian are the best things to happen to Star Wars since Return of the Jedi. Can't wait to watch your reaction!

Aaron Taft

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Haleeeeeelujah!!!!!!!

Danishprince

That was a nice surprise for sure! Guess I'm spending my evening with Popcorn, drinks and Nattie G!

Randee Carreno

I was honestly expecting "The Mandalorian" season 2 episode 2 reaction today. LOL! But this is just as EXCELLENT!!!! It'll give me something fun to watch tonight. "Rogue One" is in my top 5 favorite "Star Wars" movies. I'm excited to watch this tonight, and see how you liked it. 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Tiger Chu

GOOD STUFF!!!!!..............Hot Fuzz

Darryl Low

Nattie G. You are truly AWESOME !!! Thank you.

John

Nice! Looking forward to this tonight.

Calo Grsf

What a nice and unexpected surprise! Rogue one is in my top 3 best star wars movies, and you? And Nat, don't listen people, the "star wars community" is very difficult to identify, you should watch the movies and make your own opinions (not obligate to make a reaction)

Gath Bard

This one I saw on the theatre screen, I miss those too. Great movie. Nice surprise, Natalie.

Kevin Mowery

Sweet. Just watched The Dirty Dozen last night because I needed to see a ragtag band of misfits kill some Nazis, and now I guess I have an excuse to watch the space version of that again.

Daniel Drew

Ooooo yay!! I forgot you hadn't yet XD

Luis R.

Omg!! Yes! This is a great surprise, can’t wait to watch this after work today now!

JediLounger

After what happened yesterday, I don’t need an excuse to escape to a galaxy far far away....but this will do nicely all the same. Thank you for being you Natalie, keep up the fun and laughs.

Andrew T

I'm only 15 minutes into the movie so far, so there's a good bit of reaction I've yet to see, but in the interest of claiming "first!" I wanted to point out that K-2SO was played by Alan Tudyk.

Matthew Periolat

Thank you. After yesterday... I needed this. I needed hope back. I can only say repeatedly and continually thank you.

Luis Torrefranca

Oh, if you haven't seen yet. K2S0 is played by Alan Tudyk - Wash from Firefly.

Niklas

A surpirse, to be sure, but a welcome one.

Anonymous

A fantastic suprise! Thank you.

David Olden

“Too many views or downloads...” :-(

David Olden

And I had Rogue One all ready to go

My favourite of the new batch of movies. Taking 2 sentences from the opening scrawl from episode 4 and turning it into a 2 hour movie that answered so many small questions was just perfect. Great reaction, if I had to pick favourite parts, it would be a toss up between Nat: "I don't really remember this dudes name" half an hour later as he's walking towards the master switch through all the laser fire "Chiruuuut!" or throwing your hands up when we saw R2 and 3-PO. A little surprised you didn't recognise Alan Tudyk as K2, but I guess we can't have everything

Jayson Phillips

Btw K2 was voiced by Alan Tyduk from Firefly =)

Alan Kobb

Darn, I ran out of popcorn, but a fun movie to watch, and an unexpected surprise! Just what I needed!

Alan Kobb

Grand Moff Tarkin was played by Peter Cushing in A New Hope. Here it was actor, Guy Henry and CGI was used to insert Cushing's face over Henry's and to augment it. By the way, "Moff" is a title. In The Mandalorian I noticed you calling Moff Gideon "Moff".

Darryl Low

Nat, you have the unerring ability for falling in love with characters and relationships that are doomed! As soon as you say "I like this guy", I know we are in trouble! 😃 I love how, as you watched this movie, it all fell into place for you as figured out the timeline. Michael Giacchino's score for this movie is amazing. The original composer had to move on due to scheduling, so they brought him in not long before the release date. He had 2 weeks to write the score, so he literally had to lock himself away and write like crazy! I love when you whispered "Is that Darth Vader?" I can imagine sitting in the theatre, and getting an elbow in the side! 😃 A lot of the costumes and props for this movie are recycled for The Mandalorian. You can often see the white "Sloth Thing" sitting in various bars on the Mando show. Great video Nat, and thank you for a great surprise.

Robert Reichle

On the topic of the sequel trilogies, I have seen many people react to them on You Tube, and almost every single person has liked or mostly like them. They don't go in expecting a certain thing and then getting mad when they don't get that particular thing. Open-minded will probably equal enjoyment.

Anonymous

I wanted to watch it again ! Now I have an excuse ^^

Matthew Periolat

Post-watch thoughts: I’m in favor of spacing Star Wars out and I say that as a huge fan of the sequel trilogy. Between Marvel and all the others you want to experience, you have more than enough on your plate to keep the channel active and thriving. Variety is truly the spice in life, so savor. Having said that... there is a series on Disney+ centered on Cassin Andor that I believe will be out in 2021. If you want to fill in a gap between Episode III and IV, Clone Wars, Rebels and Andor will do nicely and buys you time along with Mandolorian before you get to the new trilogy. But that is advice, not direction. As to Rogue One, you are far from the only one to notice the “uncanny valley” around some of the cameos. Indeed, this was especially spooky at release as Rogue One came out about a week after Carrie Fisher’s death. It’s a necessary evil as observed, something done here that will look much better in... future projects, shall we say? As to the rest of Rogue One, I agree, it’s on par with the classic trilogy, almost to a fault. A great cast and movie that I argue doesn’t get nearly enough love in the community, but that’s the opinion of one. Thanks again for the ride. Can’t wait for what is to come, known and unknown. And... thanks again for letting my mind escape the world for two hours. Like you said, I miss going to movies and sharing communally an experience. Funny thing though - your work is keeping that alive and building a community of its own. So... congratulations. You are a hope right now in troubled times. No pressure, just gratitude.

Thanks for sharing your response with us. It's my favourite of the Star Wars films. After seeing it opening night, my friend and I went back to his place and watched A New Hope. I cried so hard during the opening crawl. Looking forward to upcoming Mando commentaries. Happy New Year to you, and thank you for helping lighten the load.

8bitAndy

I love how Alan Tudyk steals the show in every scene he's in... even as a voice actor. Such an underrated actor and one I reallllly hope we get to see more of on Natalie's channel. =D

RX2904

If you read the crawl again of Ep. IV now you will see it in a different light. Please do. It's worth it.

RX2904

By the way don't listen to anything fans say about the sequels. A wise man once said nobody hates Star Wars more than a Star Wars fan.

Curaitis

One advice for you when you are watching the Sequels. Dont read comments about it in your Posts here or on YT. It can and probably will get dirty about some Aspects of it. Its really muddy water. Nevertheless, great Reaction and a very nice treat to us at the beginning of the Year. (p.s. i hate the sequels.) thx _Nat

Henrik G. F. Mikkelsen

Great surprise and great reaction! It's an awesome movie! 😊 looking forward to seeing more from you in 2021. 😊 all the best

Joe Blankenship

Hey Natalie. Have you ever watched Breaking Bad? Or Deadwood?

Richard Ryan

Now would be a great time to watch SC 38 Reimagined.

Troy B.

I'm only partway through watching this, and I'd forgotten how depressing it was. I know it ends with a message of Hope that we already knew about, but still.

Bubba Fett

Check out the honest trailers for rogue one, its quite hilarious, same with firefly now that you have finished that series one of my favorites.

nataliegold

Not Deadwood, but I have seen Breaking Bad all the way through. It’s been years tho. I mostly just remember certain episodes and the ending of course.

Regarding Gold Leader, and Red Leader, both were generated with reused footage from Episode IV, and some cutting room floor footage. I believe they also were able to pull in a couple of the original pilot actors for voice over work to modify some of the conversations. You'll notice that Red 5 was toasted... hence Luke getting that designation... not sure where they got an X-wing for him though... and Blue Squadron wasn't at the Battle of Yavin because it was wiped out at Scarif... There were a lot of easter eggs that you didn't react to, a couple of people who showed up in the Cantina on Tatooine for instance, so I think you'll find a rewatch worth while at a future date. Regarding your comments on not liking the 2 main characters. I have to agree, but they weren't really that likable. The Captain was an assassin, who mostly just pulled the trigger any time he was told to, or it was convenient, even if he was getting better, he was still morally bankrupt. Jin ,,, I don't know, she had good reason to be hiding and avoiding the empire and rebellion both, and to be extremely contrary, but having a reason for it doesn't make her likable. That all being said, it was a pretty good job of tie in for how the plans were "transmitted" .... if they want to do something similar for the 2nd Death Star, they'll have to come up with a Bothan spy network...

Thomas Malley

Boo. It says file is too busy to be downloaded or steamed :( .... nevermind. Downloading now. I had to be signed in apparently.

Richard Ryan

Also, in case you didn't notice: Sassy K-2 was voiced by Wash from Firefly. :)

Anonymous

Natalie, your best work yet. Rogue One is IMO top-3 in the entire arc of Star Wars, after 'Empire' and the original (Episodes V and IV, respectively). No spoilers here about the final three, which you'll catch up with eventually sounds-like. Looking forward to more content when you're ready, your reactions make it all fresh again. I was 10 when the original came out (Episode IV) and THAT was quite the spectacle, believe it. So I've lived these one at a time, over forty-four years(!). Keep it up!

Tom Fehr

not letting me watch it - says too many have viewed or downlaoded it

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

Woohoo, finally! The reaction was great and this is in my top 3 Star Wars movies. It's really well done, despite all of the production issues. I also really enjoy Krennic as a villain...he plays someone who's definitely evil but you can tell his frustration like he's not getting respect and his over the top yelling is great and I love how the actor played it. The ending is also one of the best few moments in Star Wars history, seeing Darth Vader at 100% power like that was crazy.

Shadowcat

When I saw this in the theater, Carrie Fisher had just passed away maybe few days prior. When Leia turned around at the very end of the movie and said "Hope," I had immediate waterworks. I still get a little teary-eyed even after having seen this movie 4 or 5 times now. Tarkin was creepy and too CGI, but Leia was very well done. I'm sure it helped that she was only onscreen for seconds and spoke one word, whereas Tarkin had a much larger, more vocal role.

Robert Avila

This was so perfect! I recently started a Star Wars rewatch, and was on Rogue One. When I saw you were doing this, I guess I was starting it over. Like I've said before, LOVE watching movies along with you. I'm glad I always have tissues nearby, especially when Leia appears at the end. Since we lost our Princess, I can't watch that scene without balling. Love the characters in the movie. Looking forward to the Andor series coming soon. Hopefully K-2S0 will show up, at least towards the end. Still love all your content. Definitely one of the best things to come out of 2020. 🤗💖

warcrimes

Alan Tudyk, Wash from Firefly, does the voice for K-250. *The More You Know*

PickettsChargingPort

Anyone else having issues downloading the video? I can watch it right off google, which I don't think you are supposed to do - Storm Akima gets warnings about her people streaming directly from google drive.

Dave M.

Okay.... I officially love you. Now I need the next several episodes! Like yesterday. hahaha I'm just excited, I'm sorry.

wroot

I think you would get better taste of a new trilogy when watching right after the other movies. This way you would see what is not feeling right by the characters, story, etc. If you wait long enough you might watch new films without a good recollection of how older movies were and it might looks ok for new ones. But who cares. Yeah, they are weaker than old movies, but can still be fun to watch :)

Anonymous

NAT! Big spoiler above... Spoiler achieved. Many swear words uttered now.

Anonymous

Very nice choice. I will recommend Solo before starting another Star Wars series. Most of the people I know who wont watch it hate that it wasn't played by Harrison Ford. You can always watch it and decide if you want to share it later. I personally had a hard time with episodes 1-3, (it doesn't follow the books), but I still enjoyed them. Have a good day.

Anonymous

Thank you! I love this one and saw it five times in the theater, something I'd only done previously with Empire Strikes Back when I was young (third place was two viewings). I imagine as a reacter you get a lot more input from the Star Wars fans than I'll ever be aware of that most of us only get if we search for it. Bang on read of the varying fanbase. Personally I think the dumb stuff outweighed the good stuff in the sequels, but I'll probably still watch em with you. But I don't mind if it takes a bit now that I've had my Rogue One fix :) I don't think everyone needed to die. I hear the excuse that if they didn't die then why aren't they in the original trilogy, but I think they coulda found an excuse to maybe have Chirrut and Baze escape and maybe use them later. Especially Chirrut who I believe would have been a Jedi if there had been any left to train him. Although Chirrut actor legendary Donnie Yen once claimed that if they gave him a lightsaber no one would ever be able look good with one in comparison after that. I'm looking forward to the Cassian show they say is in the works. One of the things I liked about this movie was that it felt gritty, that the heroes weren't as pure as the original. Gave me vibes from real conflicts from not so long ago. Hoping they can do justice showing some of those things he "wants to forget". Now to watch you watch creepy space spiders :D

Tomas

Great choice! IMO, Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie we've gotten since the original trilogy. Watched it in the theaters and was honestly kind of blown away, especially since my expectations were pretty low.

Andy Crawley

Hey Nat, loved the reaction. I definitely rate Rogue One above all three of the sequel trilogy, and considering the films are called Star “Wars” it’s surprising how un-warlike most of the films feel, which is why this one works so well, it’s The Dirty Dozen in space. Also, everyone telling you Alan Tudyk played K-2SO is wrong, he actually mo-capped and voiced the Death Star. Just thought you should know.

Anonymous

Since nobody's mentioned it yet, the guy with the grey beard you didn't recognize was Senator Bail Organa from the prequels. In this quick snippet of dialogue you missed, he mentioned getting in touch with his old friend Obi-Wan, but that he had to return to Alderaan, and he was sending someone he'd trust with his life (Leia). That's the last time we see him before he dies in the destruction of Alderaan.

Anonymous

I cant watch the reaction, I keep getting the message "Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently. Please try accessing the file again later. yada yada yada". I will try again in a few hours...

Nicholas Sulikowski

The biggest reason I love Rogue One is because of how much extra weight it adds to the desperate mission of the Rebel Alliance. Knowing now that the battle to merely find the Death Star plans resulted in so many lives lost, so many dead heroes, and literally all the main characters of this movie dead, it adds an extra sense of urgency when you watch A New Hope that I don't think was there before. All of their sacrifices, just to get that disc chip thing in Leia's hand. And then now I have anxiety seeing the droids wander around Tatooine and get captured by jawas while carrying something of that great importance. And also feel slightly annoyed by Luke for even daring to not wanna deliver the plans to Alderaan. "Oh, but chores." %#&@ you, this is way bigger than you, farm boy! I think this fan art, which I found on the Pinterest page You're Stuck With Me, Skyguy, best portrays all that emotion. All that desperation and struggle and sacrifice. The ghostly hands of Rogue One handing the plans to Leia. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/2a/a5/70/2aa57055e83e264a21ae6a1efb55ce26.jpg

Nicholas Hentges

Honestly you dont need the sequel trilogy. 7 and 8 were really good for very different reasons, but 9 just completely trashed the whole trilogy, it throws out the 8th movie completely and so there is no consistency which is unfortunate because The Last Jedi is among the best of the star wars movies but ROS tried to retcon it and that just isn't how movies are supposed to work

christopher brown

They used footage that wasn't used for red and gold leader I also liked that red 5 got killed leaving the post open for Luke

Anonymous

Reaction video of some of the honest trailers of movies she’s watched I think would be pretty good.

Anonymous

Seems to be the unpopular opinion these days, but I was completely meh on Rogue One. I liked the music... but even the fight scenes I was rolling my eyes at. Forced emotion in my eyes. It really lost me when the Death Star zapped the city (which was visually cool) but robot legs was like “gooo...” “dude...I can literally see the ship from here... it’s in the background shot.” After that I just didn’t care. And all these people who were calling for carrying on the fight! Then they just give up one by one. I mean the Vader scene was neat, but I still get more invested with Vader vs Ben fight in a new hope. There is weight to it, even if it looks like two stock motion action figures. I did like the aspect that the rebels were made up of criminals at first, (kinda did that with Han) but they never really did anything with that after the beginning. In my eyes still... Kyle Katarn got the plans back in 1993 then transmitted them to non CG Leia. (Rebel transmissions!)

Darren Withers

Ok, as nobody else has mentioned it....... TRIVIA TIME So in the original plot for episode 4, Luke was supposed to be in Blue Squadron in the final battle, however there were issues with the SFX due to the use of Blue screens at the time, so it was changed to Red Squadron. Now, while unnecessary, the writers of Rogue One decided to retcon a reason for the lack of a Blue Squadron in Episode 4 here, it was the squadron that flew through to the surface as air support, and subsequently, was wiped out. As this occurs immediately before episode 4, there obviously was no replacement for that squadron before the Death Star battle! Also, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed yet, but every episode has someone mentioning having a “Bad feeling about this”, at some point, in this episode, K-2SO get’s cut off mid sentence. And just an interesting point, you mentioned how Grand Moff Tarkin looked so “Trippy”, that is what is known as “The Uncanny Valley”, where a person/Android is supposed to look like a realistic person, but there’s just something off that tells you it’s not actually real.

Baron

Thanks for the great video, took me a while to watch this one, mainly because I hadn’t finished the movie kinda cuz I knew what was coming. Also I don’t think anyone else mentioned this but you keep calling “the empire” “the alliance” which is from the Firefly universe, really funny.

TimTakDoh

If you're vested in the Star Wars universe now watching Clone Wars the animated series is a must. It takes place between the end of the Clones Wars(Episode 2 movie) and Revenge of the Sith(Episode 3 movie.) It fills the gap and gives a ton of details on so many characters, their backstories etc. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, one of the best star wars characters ever created(someone that isn't in the movies) Ahsoka Tano. The series is kind of meh for the first 2-3 seasons but it gets so damn good after that and some of the most epic moments in Star Wars history happens towards the end of it. Well worth

MertzRocks

IMO this is the only StarWars that Disney got right and I even think it's better than any of the original three! {{ BLASPHEMY!!! }} (lol) Well okay... Empire is still my fave.

Jenny Chalek

Rogue One has always been my favorite Star Wars film since it came out. It's much darker than the others.
