So glad you got to this one, Nat! One of my official top ten of all-time, and a Thanksgiving tradition in my family we just continued a few days ago. Got my lunch ready and cueing up my copy right now. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. Cheers, Nat! 🙂

John

Only SD or will you be adding HD later? Either is fine, but if HD will be uploaded soon, I'll wait for that.

Drew

I hate to be the person who comments about another movie in this comment section but is there an eta on The Avengers? Very excited for it.

Andy Jordan

Also, since you’re a fan of The Boys, you might recognize Laila Robins (who plays Neal Page’s wife in PT&A) as Grace Mallory in The Boys. Just a fun aside.

nataliegold

this is the only version. I have to compress the files since they’re so large after processing in Adobe

God Bless ya Natalie G. So amazing that you managed to make time to watch this movie in your busy week. Thank you. You've just made one of my most favourite movies ever even better. I'm glad you enjoyed it Happy holidays Nat, and if you ever need any shower curtain rings, I know the very guy to get you sorted :)

A couple more things: Del’s black eye was from one of the movie’s numerous cut scenes. The original cut was three hours, so more was actually cut from the movie than made the final cut. The scene with the highway patrolman went on longer, as the cop later revealed that they were actually in Wisconsin and had overshot Chicago, so Neal and Del got in a fight and Neal punched Del in the eye. It was later thought that they’d already been through enough and their friendship had been more solidified at their second motel the night before, so it was cut. Also, it was based on a true story of John Hughes having a plane from New York to Chicago rerouted to Wichita, and spending a hellish five days getting back to Chicago. Great reaction. It is pretty anxiety-inducing, and I usually have a hard time with those myself, but this one goes down so easy because it has such a good heart. Looking forward to Home Alone, and more John Hughes and John Candy. Cheers!

If you liked John Candy's performance you'll have to watch "Uncle Buck" too.

JediLounger

Trivia: The first cab combatant was a very young Kevin Bacon.

Thomas Malley

Uncle Buck, Home Alone and this are all sort of linked by John Candy sort of playing the same character.

Thomas Malley

An important piece in any winning streak of ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’

Yes, that’s a credit card machine. It used triplicate forms containing “carbon” paper. Additionally, some businesses would call the credit card company and confirm your account was valid before finishing the transaction. It could take five minutes to use a credit card in some stores. Thankful I only witnessed this as a kid and didn’t have to use this system. (I’m Gen X.)

Oh man the looks of consternation on your face throughout this film were amazing and hilarious ;). You remind me of my mother who feels the same way about these kinds of movies lol.

This is the Thanksgiving masterpiece and honestly one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. We have had that trip from hell that we can laugh about later, but this is just the nth degree. If you are is game for more, for Candy I also love Uncle Buck and Summer Rental. For Martin, All of Me and Roxanne are great. Thanks for sharing.

Martin Firth

Thanks for sharing! I'd never seen this movie before. If you haven't seen it, I recommend 'Mars Attacks!'.

Matt Wyatt

Another John Hughes movie you should check out is Uncle Buck. John Candy is in it as well and Macaulay Culkin. The movie is hilarious and underrated.

I love this movie so much. I grew up in the 80s and used to the amount of cheese in these movies, but love it so much. Great transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas. As usual, looking forward to what comes next. Till then, I'll be here trying to Stay Golden.

John Burns Burnsey

Nat. Seeing you talk back to the movie made me think that you were watching a horror movie more than a comedy. "No! STOP THE CAR!!!" "Oh, he's not going to... STOP THE CAR!!!" LOL

I grew up on these super cheesy 80s movies. Over emotional crap. Love em

Ra's al Cool

I had never seen this one before, either. It was fun getting to give it a first watch along with you! It was extremely cheesy 80s fare, but it managed to have some touching moments regardless. Looking forward to more of your holiday selections!

I haven't seen it either. Maybe this is the year....

This was a great watch! I had to watch this with the family also. We had a great time laughing along even to the cringy 80s parts. Thanks Nat! Have a great day, as well as anyone else who bothers reading this

John Candy has a small part in Home Alone, but the one you really need to watch is Uncle Buck, which stars John Candy and introduced Macauley Kulkin.

dang i havnt seen this in a long time. I think robert downy junior did a remake with zack galifanakis. Holy shit 1987 thats when i was born, Getting old eek. Not really but i dont feel young anymore. Im in the middle i guess and it feels good.

John

Wow, I had forgotten how old this movie is. That really dates it.

Jack the Narrator

You're definitely not going to enjoy any of John Hughes' other works. All of his movies end on a freeze frame.

The reason why Steve Martin was talking funny in that one scene is because the guy who punched him out had picked him up by the balls. It's an old Hollywood gag that in comedies if a guy gets hit in the nuts his voice goes up several octaves. And Steve Martin didn't punch John Candy in the nuts after the car caught fire, he punched him in the gut. John Candy even made reference to it being how Houdini died. Anyway, I loved your reaction to this movie. I've been checking in to see if you've reacted to the next episode of Firefly yet, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw this. I guess Firefly can wait until next week.

Troy B.

I enjoyed this reaction video, but your stress levels transformed this movie into a much more stressful movie than I'd remembered! Either that or I relate too much to it now, whereas when I first saw it I was a kid with no frame of reference, and in my teens and early twenties I didn't have as much empathy as I do now, so maybe I would have found it more stressful regardless. Either way, I'm glad you ultimately liked it by the end. =D

warcrimes

Not a good movie, didn't watch the reaction.

One of my favourite movies. Let me just add to that group suggesting Uncle Buck soon. Probably Candy’s best non-tv performance. A little less annoying and a little more loveable...

mrhalfbit

Did you catch that this is the film that The Office was referencing at the end of Beach Games when the sing the Flintstones theme song on the way back from the beach?

Aaron Taft

There was a hidden clip after the credits, FYI
