Happy Feature Friday!

Today, we're getting back into the scary times with The Descent. Surprisingly, I had a lot of fun with this one and did not have any nightmares! Am I slowly becoming hardened to horror? Perhaps...

Sadly, I have a disclaimer for this one. I accidentally watched the US ending for the movie. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to watch the right version. To be honest, I've been really overwhelmed lately and stressed and it completely slipped my mind to look into the UK version. I'm kicking myself for this and feel awful. It's just been so hard to keep my head on straight lately...

However, Tyler is going to help me try to find the UK version with a VPN so we can get up a reaction to that ending for you all next week! That way, we can at least incorporate both endings into the YouTube video as well.

Thank you all so much for your support and understanding. Until the next one, take care and stay golden :)

Hey, I had my first ever panic attack watching this in the theater. Can't wait to revisit. I think I'll make it through, this time.

Billy B

Wait ? There are multiple endings ? 🤯 I own on Blu-ray . Which I got? 😵😂😂 looking forward to watching now .

Darryl Low

Happy Feature Friday Nat. Was looking forward, with some trepidation to watching this with you today, but crazily enough, for being a British horror film, it is currently not available on any streaming platform here in the UK. It's not even on Amazon to rent 😭 Hopefully I can track down a copy and then watch along with you. Don't sweat it about which version you watched. You've had a busy couple of months. Don't ever need to apologise to us, and don't forget to take some ME time whenever you need it. And also of course, HYDRATE. No.1. Most important 😊 Thanks for all your awesome work this week as always. Look after yourself and have a brilliant weekend Nat 💛

Razor Bikini

Please don’t sweat the whole wrong version thing, especially because the original version is much harder to find. For many this is the only version they’ve ever known or seen, and like you say in the post, you can just look up the original ending and react to it separately. Just try to be kind to yourself and remember that anyone that’s gonna give you shit because you watched the version that is most readily available to you is just an asshole, simple as that. It is truly not worth the stress.

Danishprince

I didn't even know there were multiple endings so please don't spend too much energy on it - Can't have you too overwhelmed <3

Baggie Mark

I can't believe you've enjoyed this one, I thought it would be your worst nightmare, enclosed spaces and zombie like monsters lol.. you must be getting use to these horror films lol. Thanks as always for all the great content.

Peter Heine

there is no reason , to rent the UK version , you can finde the real ending Scene by search on youtube for "The Descent - Ending Scene (HD)" youtube channel name "Captain Darrow" I would be very appreciated if you could react to this "real ending" ;)

Thats MR. Baldamort

I had no idea there was a separate Uk version, this is the first im hearing about it. Not sure who you were talking to that gaslighted you into believe you watched the wrong one.

Danishprince

Same here.. I fucking hate this streaming bullshit where so many films just aren't available in multiple regions.

LittleGalaxyBoy

When people first started mentioning the "US" version of the film, I assumed it was dubbed for American audiences, similar to how Mad Max (1979) was dubbed when it was released in the States. But, according to everyone, it's just the endings that differ. I'm pretty sure I saw the original UK ending and had no idea there were two versions. If the film had been dubbed with American voice actors, I could see how that might be a major problem for reactions. But since it's only the ending that's different, there’s no issue at all so it's all good. Some reactors have even watched the alternate "happy" ending of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and still enjoyed the film. Both endings for The Descent seem to work really well.

Sean Vieira

Don't feel too bad about watching the US version! It's not the end of the world, and it's actually even a good thing because you can now go see the other version!

Mastervodo

OMG! NaT! Did you just say, "What in the Serenity?!" Too soon! Too Soon!

Daniel McGuinness

Such a great movie 🥹 the claustrophobia and tension between the characters is scary enough that by the time THAT midway twist comes through you’re not even expecting it! And Sarah being Scottish 😌 nothing but respect for my final girl I still maintain that the scariest scene is when Sarah gets stuck crawling through that cave 😵‍💫 The ending isn’t hugely important except for a darker tone, I actually prefer the US ending for once, it’s a little optimistic but Sarah deserves it x

Bryan Erickson

Hopefully I’m not misremembering, but isn’t there a scene where one of them snaps their leg (open fracture), and another one of them re-sets the bone? It was specifically when they were re-setting the bone. Hope I didn’t mix up movies? For a while after that, any heavy gore scene would give me a panic attack. To the point I had to stop watching movies like Saw (specifically the sequels, first one was no biggy).

Billy B

Great reaction . Your real time commentary during the movie is great . I enjoyed watching along with you. And I agree with you on Juno killing the other woman. It was by accident. But I suppose Karma is a bi**h if Juno was having an affair. Physical Blu-ray copy came with both endings . I won’t give it away, but you are not missing much . Just look up the alternate ending on YouTube . Adds about 2 minutes. 🙃

Boomcity

Lets do Evil Dead 2013

Gavinmc

It’s a really good movie, but it’s tough on my claustrophobia

KingKZ

The only issue the different versions would create is if one plans on watching the sequel. The sequel uses the International ending as the canon ending. Watching the Descent 2 caused me a lot of confusion as I didn't know about the alternate ending of 1 at the time. Aside from that, there are zero issues watching the US version.

Jon K.

Don't worry about the ending Nat it's really not a big deal and nothing to stress over in the grand scheme of things. This is one of my favorite horror movies so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to seeing your reaction later.

Mastervodo

Having watched Natalie cackle with glee over killing Emily in Until Dawn.... NGL - not too surprised she's OK with a bunch of gals being murderdeathkilled by underground manfangbats. Now... if they were underground murderteethspidermonsters.... we might have a show! Great reaction though Nat! Loved every second! Can't wait for the next one!

Baggie Mark

After watching this with Nat I think I was more scared by the claustrophobia than the creatures, they looked like house elves from Harry Potter 🤣🤣

Josh R

This and the Ritual are two of my all time favourite horrors. I'll be watching this when I get home with you!

vlocke67

great reaction! honestly i wouldn't go through the hassle of VPN and such at this point to see the original ending, you can probably just youtube it now for full effect

Tarjei

Fairly certain the wolf howl is alluding to Neil Marshall's first feature (The Descent was his second): Dog Soldiers. It's a great fun low budget action horror sprinkled with comedy. Well worth a watch.

Rey

I hope things get a little less stressful for ya nat , tbh i had no idea about any diffrent endings with this film ever

Josh R

I think by the way that its implied that alll the girls have some adrenaline junky habbits. For example with the rafting at the beginning so its definitely implied and even said with sam, holly, beth and juno that theyve been caving/ mounting climbing before. But overall its such a good horor. Love that its two movies with a creature feature and claustrophobia horror too!! Great reaction, i cant wait to see the editted version too!! Definitely would like you to see the ritual!! Great horror set in Europe as some guys go hiking so some very similar vibes to this one!!!!

Daniel McGuinness

THE CAMERA JUMPSCARE IS SO GOOD YESSSSS

Daniel McGuinness

I’m so glad you feel you’re becoming hardened in your horror journey 🥹 the descent is a good one too, and you’re noticing tropes like dropping the weapon 😭 You watched Cabin in the Woods too early in your horror era, that’s a movie that rewards knowledge of the genre

Daniel McGuinness

I think the strongest theory is that the cave dwellers are ancient humans (the ones who painted the cave paintings) that evolved in the darkness instead of on land

Boomcity

Fantastic. In fact I say it's the best horror remake since The Fly. Fede Álvarez crushed it and proved himself again with Alien Romulus.

Taff Lewis

2nd. "As above so below" thoughts anyone? everyone? 1st. Nat, Yes pretty advanced even though this is kind of at the edge, you don't strike me as the "hand rails & gift shops" type? 3rd. as much as I like the one, did anyone else like "the Cave" better?

Kevin Farrell

Galway gets mentioned. "Oh is everyone from Scotland??" The Irish won't be happy about that one 😆

Taff Lewis

Technical-Relative Notes: 1. When they crossed the cavern and she clipped into the piton that was already there; that thing was massive. (2-3x what was used in the 1970's) you could "normally" hang a car off of it. 2. you are correct. Handing your life to someone else at the end of a rope is not something that you do with people you DO NOT trust. (unless you're an idiot) That small group of people exist on another plane from the rest of humanity. Unless they are included, girlfriends, wives, children aren't even tangential.

Alex Caudill

I have also struggled with horror movies. Not because I'm scared, but because I find most of them boring and dumb. I was really clicking with this movie right up until the creatures were introduced. I think the the cave it's self is already scary enough. If it was just the women vs the cave I think I would have liked it a lot more.

Mannygogou

Yes! This was a fun one that's why I like it. The claustrophobic feeling when they're crawling through those gaps... and then the creatures were a surprise! Yes you should find the UK ending... 😮🙂

Peter Yocum

this is not *super* advanced caving, but yes it's certainly not beginner caving

jamie jones

What? The uk version is the original. They cut shit out for the american version. Wtf u talking about gaslighting? The american ending is vastly inferior. Facts aren’t gaslighting

Joshua-Lewis

The Wild Robot Pls!!!!

Annie519

I love this movie and love how the first half is all about the cave and how claustrophobic is. You don't even know it's a "monster" movie until half way through. I don't have that fear but you really feel it and you're right there with them, especially when Sara is stuck. I think for the most part the characters are likable (apart from Holly) and I do feel bad when they die. It's sad too that most of their deaths are from them making bad choices because of fear and panicking and to me that felt real. I do think that was one of the biggest reasons why Holly bolted the way she did, she couldn't admit that she was scared because she was the risk taker but she was and when it was revealed that there was a way out and she thought she saw daylight she reacted without thinking. And with Beth, I used to think the same thing, that it was so stupid that she would just go behind her like that. But when you watch it from Beth's point of view, she was completely in the dark and had no idea what Juno had just been doing and she didn't say anything due to not wanting to make any noise most likely. And it's hard to tell because of the lighting but the creature that attacked Sara right after what happened with Beth was actually a child one and the one right after was a female and clearly the mother, you see it morn it right before attacking and I'm also assuming the one after that was the father. Also for me I have always been very mixed with what Sara did at the end. I used to hate her for it, lol But now I see both sides. Yes, it was Juno's fault and she made a lot of terrible and stupid mistakes that lead to all this but she also stayed and wouldn't leave her or anyone for that matter, so to put her in that position was awful. On the other hand though Sara did just have to kill her best friend and learned about Juno's betrayal. I do think when she asked about everyone after meeting up again she was giving Juno the chance to confess but she lied and that was the last straw. I do think her doing what she did was for Beth, not for what happened with Paul, she just had to let her know that she finally knew.

Wally

Such a treat doing the watch along. I almost spat out when you said "Juno's having a hippie moment. Raining ..." Holly was played by Nora-Jane Noone. She starred in a critically acclaimed independent movie called "The Magdalene Sisters" which is based on true events about abuse many young girls faced at Irish monasteries after being cast out by their families for "crimes".

jamie jones

The two minutes make a big difference and change the entire outcome. Also there’s additional scenes and gore in the uk version so no, its literally not the same movie.

Veronica Lenée

Fun fact from someone from KY: Appalachian Mountains (specifically the Mammoth Cave system near where I'm from) have the longest cave system in the world so it makes sense that they'd want to go spelunking there.

Simon Bauer

As above so below - takes place in the paris catacombs fun watch :)

Ullrich Pfeiffer

Huh. I just checked my countries wikipedia and they had Red Wolves still around because there was a program in the 90s trying to reintroduce them. So for a non-US movie, it's only 10 years off. Not that bad for a movie tbh. Especially since movie producers wouldn't have tried to look up anything on the internet back in the early aughts.

Jules Readner

"This stopped being scary and started to be hammy." That's exactly how I feel about this movie. Many horror movies do this and it drives me crazy. Fun reaction, Nat!
