Classic film! Glad to see a classic can still be made these days. Great choice Nat!

I also love hearing reactors talk about movies they hated. Haha I’ve been meaning to get around to watching La La Land. People say they either love it or hate it.

I loved this movie when I first saw it. It’s still very effective, and still has a phenomenal ending (something Chazelle always delivers on IMO), but I’d personally rank it on the low end of his filmography. I understand why it’s most people’s favourite tho. I’d really love to hear more about why you didn’t like La La Land, which on the other hand is a film of his that only got better for me each time I revisited it. I think the awards campaign for that movie skewed a lot of people’s expectations in a way that harmed their enjoyment of the film (as a straightforward musical or a love letter to Hollywood, it doesn’t really work, but it’s not trying to be either of those things). Would love to see you revisit it, even if as a hate watch, to get more insight into your thoughts. I do recommend both First Man and Babylon tho. First Man is definitely Chazelle’s most understated film, while Babylon is his most over the top. Both are worth watching for their musical scores alone (another thing Chazelle always delivers on, thanks to his frequent collaborator Justin Hurwitz), plus Babylon has a couple of absolutely perfect scenes even if the movie as a whole is a bit messy. I originally put off watching it for a while because I’d heard a lot of bad things, but I ended up loving it. Either way thanks for the reaction, it was a memorable one for sure, and I look forward to watching another, less stressful movie along with you again soon.

I’d love to see you do more of your own thing and not leave things up to polls. I’d wanna see ya do more recent or award worthy stuff. I highly recommend anatomy of a fall, all of us strangers

Oh where do we see the shortened Youtube version?

If not before, then the line is crossed when someone takes their own life because of the teacher. Art is what makes life worth living for many people, so if someone loses their life because of it, it isn't worth it. Having 5%, 10%, or 20% worse art, but no one takes their life, is 100% worth it.

The problem I've always had with this movie is the whole ideology of the teacher. If what he says is true, that a true great wouldn't quit, I'd say that a true great wouldn't need an egotistical asshole to push them either. They'd be great regardless, just my two cents.

Amazing watch. I love this movie quite a bit.
