Maya Regions Map! (Patreon)

Since I introduced the novel project (Physical Graffiti), i thought i'd help visualize the world better for people not sure where to exactly start with it.

While in the book I still use the common animal names to describe characters, it's important to also note I'll be using some play-around-words. Words that merge binomial nomenclature names and japanese/ainu names. While the Kanji shown isn't necessarily important, do note that the People's Republic of Dozan, AKA: the Sumari Region, does use a conlang-esque version of japanese. The binomial nomenclature names are used in a demonym way, this is to creatively hint at what a nationality of a race may look like using knowledge we already know.

That might be a tad complicated so let me break it down.

Let's start simple with the Lupusian region. Canis Lupus is the BN name for wolves. Lupusian is how I'll describe character's who are Lycan, but have more wolf characteristics. Now let's move over to the Dingo Region. Dingo has the benefit of already sounding sort of regional-ish. This is how I'll describe Lycans with more Dingo traits.

Now, let me introduce something a tad more complex. Do you see the Sumari Reigon ( 狸狐 )? This region encompasses the native people of Dozan (in ancient times called Sumari. Sumari is also an Ainu word for the Ero Fox). However, you'll also see blue spots with Tanuki and Kitsune. This is because while they're both Lycan species, their nationalities are different. But culturally they see each other as a whole. Now look down to the read circled section encompassing the Procyonic and Vulpesian. You'll se something that reads GISUMARI 偽狸狐）This is because in this Region we have Lycans that appear fox-like and also a nationality of Mustlians that appear Tanuki-like ( and we often see Tanukis and Raccoons get confused with each other). This particular naming of this region (Which is mostly only used by people of Dozan) is seen as derogatory, because their naming of the region translates to: "False Sumari People." Therefore in modern-times people advocate Dozan to start calling their regions Wa-itachi 輪鼬 and Minami-Kitsune 南狐 respectively. I hope this is making sense????

Below is a guide to help understand what each Region refers to ( in alphabetical order ) if you do not know Binomial Nomenclature names.

EDIT: I want to also note that this does not mean you'll only find a particular set of races in certain regions, their population may be more dense, but you will find all sorts of people living everywhere as we do on earth. The regions are to show where their particular nationality originates from.

BUCHI REGION - 斑狗　ぶうち - GNOLL

A nationality of Gnolls who look similar to spotted hyenas. Buchi comes from a japanese name for these hyenas (ブチハイエナ, Buchi Haiena)

斑 - means spotted, pattern, irregular patterns

狗 - means dog, used to match with the other kanji 狼、狐、狸. This is because at first Sumari people thought Gnolls were Lycans.

DINGO REGION - 砂狼　さおおかみ - LYCAN

A nationality of Lycans resembling Dingos

砂- meaning sand.

狼- meaning wolf

FUROAN REGION - 小鼬　こいたち- MUSTLIAN

A nationality of Mustlian resembling ferrets

小- Meaning small

鼬- meaning weasel

GUOLOIC REGION - 大鼬　だいいたち- MUSTLIAN

A nationality of Mustlians resembling Wolverines.

大- meaning 'large'

Includes some of Koozo's family and Elias' family.

KASSHU REGION -　尨狗　かっしゅち- GNOLL

A nationality of Gnolls resembling brown hyenas.

尨- meaning shaggy

Includes Atticus!

LATRANIAN REGION - 茶狼　 ちゃおおかみ- LYCAN

A nationality of Lycan resembling Coyotes

Includes Stills and Dennis. 

茶- meaning tea, brown.

LAHOUAN REGION - 虎　とら- AILURAN

A nationality of Ailuran resembling Tigers

虎- meaning tiger

LUPUSIAN REGION - 狼　おおかみ - LYCAN

A nationality of Lycans resembling close to wolves.

Includes Ripley, Stills and Dennis.

PANTHERIAN REGION - 砂虎　さとら- AILURAN

A nationality of Ailuran resembling Lions

Includes Nash

PROCYONIC REGION - 輪鼬　わいたち- MUSTLIAN

A nationality of Mustlian resembling Raccoons

Includes Elias and Koozo.

SHIMA REGION - 縞狗　しまち - GNOLL

A nationality of Gnolls resembling Stripped Hyenas.

縞- meaning stripes

SPILO REGION - 白黒鼬　しろくろいたち- MUSTLIAN

A nationality of Mustlian resembling Skunks
