“Okay, this is not right at all!” Dan looked at the storefront before and then looked down at his phone. “No way in hell is this right. Frickin’ Google Maps… so much for accurate information.”

The young man had been wandering all morning in search of this impressive, rumored video game store his friend had mentioned. He had been wanting to expand his retro gaming collection and thought he’d start with a nice independent store. However, his search had turned out to be quite fruitless.

Having followed his phone’s directions, Dan had entered his city’s Toon Town District. It wasn’t exactly where he wanted to be with all of the fire hydrants, vehicles, and flowers waving and smiling at him. However, the store he sought was somewhere there.

Or, it used to be at least. He stood in front of what looked to be a joke and prop shop called Zebra’s Zany Zokes and Pokes. He frowned looking up at the storefront, but eventually let out a sigh.

Maybe… maybe they know where to look? He took a deep breath and entered the store.

The inside of the store was loaded with joke items and props of all kinds, shoved onto shelves, barrels, and bins that looked like they were going to burst out. The walls were bright lime green and purple with confetti carpeting. At the far end of it was a counter where the lone employee was busy polishing the wood countertop.

The employee was a rather heavy set zebra with a thick, short Mohawk with white and chocolate brown stripes. He had a large, bulging belly with wide moobs and wider rear. All of his weight managed to be stuffed into and barely contained by thick blue jeans and white t-shirt.

Dan walked up to the counter. The zebra toon didn’t look up, focusing hard on his polishing. After a few moments, Dan cleared his throat. Still no response. “Ahem.” Still nothing. “...excuse me, I have a-”

“Annnnnnd done!” The zebra declared, tossing the polishing rag over his head. “What a beauuuuut!” The zebra looked down on the counter, now so polished and cleaned that he could see his reflection in it. In fact, his equine reflection gave him a thumbs up and a wink.

“Heh, always satisfying ta see da hard work ya put in pay off!” The zebra chuckled, his eyes finally looking up and falling upon Dan. The toon smiled brightly. “Oh heeeey dere pardner! Didn’t see ya come in! I hope youse wasn’t waitin’ tooo long.”

“Well, I-”

The zebra’s arm stretched out and grabbed Dan’s, giving it a firm shake. “Da name is Marty Stripes, da owner of this fine establishment. Howse can I help ya?”
